3.1355ml bottle at Beer Station, Xiamen. Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma of wheat malt lemon. Very mild sourness but really a sweet finish. A bit thin.
3.0Draft - Light wheat and a touch of sour notes. Cloudy gold with a rich white head. Loght wheat and a touch of citrus. A bit boring.
3.3Reviewed March 17, 2014.
A: Pours a hazy straw color. The head is about two fingers high, and completely white. It fades to a thin film somewhat rapidly, with a soapy yet somewhat soft texture. Some lacing is left behind.
S: Just from the aroma, the character seems closer to a wit than a hefeweizen. It’s mostly forward in candied sugar and black pepper, with subtler hints of clove and coriander. Nothing exciting, but it works acceptably.
T: The flavor profile is mostly just wheat malt with some lemon. There is, however, a light kiss of tart fruit that hit the palate before fading quickly. It also finishes with just a hint of spice esters. Similar to the nose, there’s little excitement, just a pleasantly drinkable offering. Wait: a bit more lemony tartness is coming to the forefront? Awesome! Let’s raise the scores some.
M: This is a very crisp and light beer; it’s also vaguely sweet-finishing, but I don’t care. The carbonation is strong without being oppressive. Ultimately, it’s both refreshing and easy to drink, but somewhat dinky.
O: I really like how there’s some genuinely noticeable tartness, even to my scorched-Earth palate. Yet, it’s disguised within a well-balanced yet unassuming wheat beer. Without the sour notes, this would be BOOO-RING; thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster they exist, and help to make this one pretty solid. I’d even buy it again!
3.312oz bottle pours out a light hazy yellow topped with a fluffy white head. Nose is wheat some tartness earthy grassy hops and a little spice..taste is more of the light wheat notes some grassy hops and a biscuit touch.
2.7Hazy yellow white head. Light earthy aroma. tartness up front, lingers and then leaves a fairy flat taste after. Not thrilling or complex.
3.0Pours a medium golden yellow color. Aroma is lacking, traces of grass, malt, and maybe some hops. Flavor was almost as bland as the smell, a little sweetness, followed by a touch of hops. Not much here.
3.2New Belgium Snapshot 5%
It is listed as a tart wheat beer with a cloudy light gold color that possesses a filmy eggshell white head.
A tart wheat aroma that is very reminiscent of a Gose.
The taste is wheat, soda bread, some lemon and a mild tartness. It feels to me it is midway between a Gose and a wheat ale. That tartness is very mild in the finish. It's ok but isn't as good as the previous two bottles.
3.3Draught at New Belgium Hub, DIA. Pours cloudy yellow with a medium, frothy white head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy earthy wheat malt, light lemon zest and earthy hops. Flavor is lightly tart lemon zest, moderate earthy wheat malt, light earthy hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Medium-light body and moderate carbonation.
5.0My second encounter with New Belgium brews was even better. This american wheat beer is refreshing, slightly sour and little bit of banana sweetness as well. I tip my hat off!
3.2Cloudy yellow pour with a white head. Aroma is citrusy and wheat. Taste is a wheat body with citrusy hops. Easy going down beer. Nice lacing.
3.1Aroma bread, citrus, dough, clove,
Appearance pale, golden, hazy, frothy, white foam,
Taste light sweetness,
Palate medium body,
Overall I’m getting citrus and lemon with some spiciness. I’m not getting much tartness. Not my favorite flavors. I would not suggest this beer to a friend.
2.8Kind of macro ish. Average pour w/ not much going on aroma wise. Really bland for a wheat & I can’t say that I would recommend it!
2.7Golden in color with a white foamy head. Aroma of grass, lemons, citrus and hops. Taste is grassy and lemony with a slight citrusy bitter taste in the end.
2.9Drank from the bottle. Smell is wheat and citrus, some tart hay and sweetness. Taste is crisp and clean, a front of tart and sour wheat, followed by a slow mellow wheat aftertaste. Decent cleansing palate
2.6pleasant, citrus aroma. hazy pale golden color with a very minimal white head. Medium tart/sour. Light bodied and slightly less carbonated than I expected. Not really my thing, but not bad either.
3.3Can at Killer B, YCAC. Clear yellow - white head. Fruity. Gummy. Wheaty. No real bitterness. Soda-pop like. Medium carbonation. Ok - a bit simple....
3.2This has a huge wheat aroma. The taste is a small bite and rather weak, but the tartness that builds up on the palate is worth the wait.
3.112 oz bottle. Pours a hazy, straw golden color and topped by a small head of white foam that settles quickly to a thin film. The aroma shows notes of floral and citrus hops, coriander spice, a hint of tartness, and a clean, light wheat malt base. The flavor follows with the crisp, clean wheat malts, spices, and some moderate floral and citrus hop bitterness. Not much in the way of tartness, but there is a touch. Light in body with average carbonation that leads to a crisp, wheat and citrus finish. Easy drinking and decent enough wheat ale, but definitely no real tartness like was advertised.
3.5Draft at the Irish Pol. Very cloudy yellow gold pour with bright white soapy foam. Thin rows of lace. Juicy citrusy wheat beer. Fuller-bodied than most. Also a touch of sour funk. Bruised lemon juice and zest. Apricots. Straw. Yellow plums and apples. Pleasant mix of fruit and wheat in the nose. Nicely balanced. Still the style keeps things from running too deep.
3.3Sampled on draught at Bubba Gump's in Anaheim. A hazy golden beer with a foaming white head. Citrus aroma and a taste of lemon peel with hints of coriander and a slight tartness. A good thirst quencher!
3.5Pours a cloudy golden yellow orange. White head. Aromas of citrus and hay. Taste is lightly sweet. Faintly tart. Easy drinker. More of a warm weather beer.
3.0Bottle - Heavy smell of grass and hay. Has a confusing but interesting taste. It has the characteristics of a wheat beer with a slight tartness. I give it credit for being different but it doesn’t straddle the two worlds very well. It is stuck in the middle of a an identity crisis. Tastes of citrus. Dry on the plate, makes my mouth water.
3.1Pours a hazy gold with a slightly fizzy inch high white head. Nose is citrus, grassy hop, faint lacto sour, wheat. Light, almost effervescent body. Taste is wheat, lemon peel, citrus hop and slight sour in the finish. Decent refreshing beer.
2.9Robe blonde et opaque avec des particules en suspension. La mousse se forme et tient bien.
Arômes biscuit, levure, pain, écorce d’ agrumes, clou de girofle. Fruits jaunes, fruits confits en bouche. Astringence marquée. Texture liquoreuse. Pas de longueur en bouche.
Une bière moyenne.
2.8Rated on 6-27-2015 at S & V Liquors, Fort Wayne, IN event. This bottled beer pours a small white head with a long retention, cloudy body and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is wheat, malt, citrus hops, and sweet. The flavor is sweet, wheat, malt, and tart. The mouthfeel is light carbonation and this beer is light-medium bodied. A quaffable beer but it could use more flavor.
3.5One of the best ways to tell if a summer beer really is good is whether it’s as enjoyable when it’s not hot and sunny out at the time. New Belgium Snapshot is a fairly simple pale wheat ale brew with a touch of spices and even a bit of lacto tartness to make it interesting. And I can see this being ideal in the summer sun, but in any other setting it’s only okay.
I poured a 12oz bottle into a large tumbler glass. It had an expiration date of 1/3/16 and cost $1.66 ($0.14 per ounce).
Appearance: Surprisingly clear body for an unfiltered wheat beer. Light orange/yellow hue with carbonation visible. Pours to a large, white, fluffy head which retains and laces quite well.
Smell: Slight lemon zest scent along with typical wheat aroma. Spices and lacto are barely present.
Taste: There isn’t a lot going on with this palette, though I think that’s the point and thus I won’t penalize it as such. The base flavor is classic wheat beer – very light malt with some wheat presence. The Coriander and Grains Of Paradise emerge on the back end to impart a slightly spicy sensation; otherwise there’s an undercurrent of lemonpeel throughout (which is interesting, since there’s no actual lemonpeel in the beer). The lactobacillus is mild; it does create for the tartness as promised, but it’s mild. There’s no intense sour sensation, either. The flavor combinations here are nice – had they been more intense this would be a pretty impressive beer.
Drinkability: Upon my first sip of New Belgium Snapshot I could tell this is intended to be a summer/warm weather climate brew. The mouthfeel is light, crisp and moist. Thirst-quenching for sure, and the tartness and spice makes it a bit self-cleaning on the palate. Though I’m surprised there isn’t much body for a 5% ABV brew; this feels more like an overtly sessionable beer in the sub 4.5% range. I’m sure you could session it if you want, though.
RATING: 6/10
3.5Clear, pale gold pour with a frothy, white head. The aroma has some light earthy notes. It has a light, slightly oily body with average carbonation. The taste begins sweet, but finishes mildly tart.
3.3Can. Hazy pale yellow beer with a large white head. Aroma is spicy with notes of citrus, wheat, herbs and bread. Flavor is spicy with notes of citrus, wheat, bread, yeast, cereal and fruity esters.
2.6A very average wheat. Pours an ugly cloudy yellow. Slight lemon, grapefruit smell. Taste is similar, not offensive but not memorable in the least. Had on tap at Bay Area Brew Fest 2015.
3.3Frothy rocky white head. Hazy golden color. Slightly sour wheat nose. Low carbonation. Easy drinking but a bit muddled for the style. Too malty.
