New Belgium Somersault

New Belgium Somersault

Somersault is a fun roll around on the tongue, while requiring only the minimum of palate gymnastics. This is the perfect summer lounge-around beer. Somersault tumbles out with citrus aroma from Centennial hops, a soft apricot fruitiness tucked into the flavor, a full mouthfeel from the addition of oats and a crisp, dry finish from the subtle addition of ginger.

2.0 I did not care for this at all. It tasted like it had too much lemon hints in it. Not a bad thing, but it really washes out the rest of the beer.
2.3 Random golden ale. Some sour kind of citrus. Pours amber with OK head. Finish falls off completely. Boring. Tap at Churchkey.
2.4 12oz bottle in my hotel room ( Oceanside, California) on 27th May 2015. Poured into a plastic beaker while watching ’shit TV’. Clear golden body, the head a full and lasting white covering. Aroma is loose with a mild fruit hint, the taste is also leaning towards fruity flavours with a malt backbone. Refreshing yet lacking in flavour and depth. I think this is the worst score I have given a ber from these guys at this brewery.
2.9 Pours a clear golden color, no head o speak of. Crisp and refreshing with a little bit going on. Sweat, citrus lemon and some malts. Nice on the pallet and nice on a summer day.
3.0 golden color with a thin white head. aroma is light yeasty bread. flavor is bread with a hint of bitterness.
3.1 Refreshing summer beer. Light taste that's not overly complicated. Wold drink this again
3.3 This is a lighter beer with almost no head. Good taste and nice palate. A tasty beer for sure.
3.2 Pours a lighter golden color with white head. Some bread, a little light fruit, and some grass on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes fairly dry.
3.3 "a very nice hop character atop a light and refreshing blonde ale. seems like NB does blonde well. simple, but tasty, recommended as a summer brew for sure
4.0 Somersault is unique as both a seasonal and an ale. As a seasonal, it represents a departure from the lagers and wheat ales that are popularly associated with the summer months by craft brewers. As a blond ale, Somersault has a bit more of a hop kick than I’m used to seeing within the style. The body is light and very approachable, but the finish is fresh and a bit bitter. New Belgium has made better (and worse) beers than this one, but it’s a bold effort that works.
3.1 A pretty decent blonde, though less potent yeast than I prefer. Golden, crisp, and a bit bland.
3.0 From Beerilicious iphone app: citrus hops. golden amber color hazy rocky white head light bitterness hint of sour short duration light thin and watery
3.4 A nice summer beer. light crisp flavor, slight on the hops with a subtle citrus nose.
2.6 A just OK drinker. Not much reason to get this when you can have a fat tire.
3.1 Bottle from Bonita Liquor: Poured a golden straw blonde with a fluffy topping of foam head. Not much aroma for me to smell other than some light notes of hops that have a hint of citrus peel. The flavor is bland with a faint background of grained malt that gives off a tiny bit of honey while a grassy usage of hops goes almost unnoticed. Boring recipe, but quite refreshing on a hot summer day on the 4th of July.
3.3 Bottle. Pours a clear yellow orange color with a white head. Has a musty, fruit like aroma. Medium/light mouthfeel. Slightly hoppy with a sweet lemon like zest as well hiding in there. The ginger is evident as well. Its not bad and would probably be pretty good on a hot day.
3.3 Light and easy drinking. Overall not super crazy just simply drinkable. Lots of mild florals.
3.5 Bottle. Hazy orange-kissed golden colour with a one-finger thick dense white head. Very little lace. Aroma is fresh and clean, floral/fruity hops and light cereal. Nice juicy apricot fruit hop signature, light citrus, clean cereal malts. Finish is mildly bitter and tart. Refreshing and very sessionable. Sometimes these simple blonde ales just hit the spot.
2.7 Nice golden blonde color that is transparent with a finger of head that sticks around. Hints of lemon and citrus in scent. Earthy/floral taste with even hops and touch of citrus aftertaste. Slightly complex taste with smooth body that is on the lighter side and drinkable. Good for a summer day if you want something good and easy to drink.
3.0 I love me some Centennial hops and this is a decent vehicle to deliver those to my belly.
3.1 Pours golden with a nice white head. Aroma is clean, slightly hoppy, with a hint of citrus. Taste is refreshing. Well balanced notes of malt, hops, and maybe a bit of lemon. A very nice beer for a warm day. Thumbs up.
3.5 Drinking summer in a glass in December may have brought the numbers down somewhat.....an easy drinking, pale colored uncomplicated ale. Would be perfect by the water in the summer- or post-surf. Lots of citrus with a hint of ginger. Not overly hoppy- 28 IBU. Refreshing.
3.3 Crystal clear, light golden body with orange highlights. Finger or so of sticky white head that leaves significant lacing. Drains to a creamy skim. Mild yeast, light citrus hops and malts in the nose. Some grassy notes. Light bodied, mildly hoppy. Pleasant, easy to drink, doesn’t fatigue the palate.
3.5 Bottled sample from happy Harry's. great golden ale. Nice apricot flavor. Liked it
3.4 I know this is an American blonde but I swear I got a feeling of a belgian pale from it. Light yellow-orange in color, decent head. Smells like orange a little. The flavor had a bit of citrus and peach but just a tiny bit and then I tasted spice (I swear). This wasn;t bad but I did not find it as refreshing as some of the other reviewers here and I most likely won;t revisit this. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-22-2011 04:28:59
3.4 12 0z. Bottle gifted, (thanks Ryan) Pours a clear straw yellow, minimal head from a non-aggressive pour. Aroma of mostly citrus, taste of mild citrus, medium sweet, medium body. Nice little blond!
3.5 Pours a light golden color with a finger sized pure white head. Nose is citrus and spices. Light to medium modied and fairly creamy on the palate, the taste is citrus, spices and just a little zing of hops on the finish. Light and refreshing - a nice summer beer that pairs well with chicken salad on a croissant.
2.8 pours a clear straw with a very small white head that dissipates quickly, and some lacing. smell is faint, a slight citrus, and few hops. taste is of peanuts, malt, a touch of toffee, and hops. ends a tad bitter.
3.2 12 ounce bottle. Pours clear orange gold with a nice white head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Taste is citrus, pine, malt, and spices. Nice summer ale.
3.4 Clear yellow pour with an off white head. Aroma is malt, citrus. Taste is malt, citrus, a little biscuity, refreshing.
