New Belgium Spring Blonde

New Belgium Spring Blonde

Inspired by our anniversary bike trips through Belgium. Spring Blonde is a bright golden ale with a sweet lemony start, pedaling to a pleasantly bitter finish.

2.6 I had this on tap at Hangar on the Wharf, Juneau, AK. I had this in a pint glass. The appearance was a clear yellow color with no head (bar pour, so I’m not taken aback). There was some light stringy lacing following the beer as it goes down. The smell didn’t really have much at all. If there was anything, there were some light floral notes. The taste once again didn’t have much to it. It was basically just beer and it didn’t have any aftertaste nor finish. On the palate, it sat exceptionally light and showed a very good sessionability about it. Overall, well, I say this was just an average American Blonde Ale. I’m not sure why its labeled a Belgian Ale as it wasn’t even served in proper glassware for a Belgian Ale. Anyways, well, I honestly don’t think I’d have it again despite proper glassware or not.
3.5 12oz bottle, Light aroma. Flavors of sweet, light caramel. Hints of floral and earthy taste coming through as well. Balanced, medium body with a bitter finish.A good tasting Belgian Ale.
2.6 Bottle:   Mealy beer, pale breadiness, a touch of soil.   Not a bright Belgian, very American like.   Its also a bit grainy.   Reminds me of an attempt on making Fat Tire a Belgian like ale.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Too grainy and bready, not bright or bubbley.   Not a fan...
3.0 Pours clear yellow, half finger frothy white head. Aroma light noble hops, pilsner malt, some fruity yeast esters, all subdued. Taste sweet pilsner malt, spicy noble hops, again slight fruity esters, well balanced but subdued. Mouthfeel thin body, medium carbonation slight spiciness, dry finish. Overall light on aroma and flavor, but nice refreshing beer, nice alternative to a light lager.
4.2 Poured from a bottle into a pint glass a clear light yellow with a huge thick white pillow top head. Aroma is lemony light hops. Flavor is slightly tart yet quite sweet. Definitely got the Belgium malt here. Very smooth & balanced. The somewhat bitter finish would lead one to thick metallic but nope its the hops. Extremely drinkable. Balanced well. Easily would buy a 6 pack of this to sip on after a long bike ride or at a summer picnic.
4.0 Clear brilliant gold under a sticky foamy white head. Brilliant nose of blonde cereal tones, belgian tree fruit and a wee touch of sweet green onion. Full palate with a calming blonde malty body, some light pepperiness, belgian esters of dusty tree fruit and a very mild grassiness. Pretty lovely, and a lot more than I expected.
2.2 smells a little metallic. Has a big head on a pale yellow clear beer. Taste is a little strong for a blond but now I see its a beldgy wannah bee. Medium carbonation, could use more. Overall, not impressed, was hoping for more. Date code says 158457 06JUL1 140203082 17. Not sure what this means. 06? Couldn’t be that old, just ought it at the vintage estates bottle shop.
3.6 Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a dark gold with a half finger white head. Aroma of biscuit, lemon and a hint of caramel. Taste is light bitter. Follows aroma. Full bodied with a creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Pretty good.
3.5 Crystal clear yellow color. Fluffy white head. Aroma is a little bit of clove, lemon, bready. Taste follows the aroma, some subtle bitterness. Thin, but not watery mouth feel. Simple beer but extremely drinkable and enjoyable for what it is.
3.4 Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver Blond color, with compact head. Mild aroma: some Belgium here, light spices, light fruits, but also a bit of stale waters. Off-dry mouthfeel with high carbonation; pale malt flavor, with a hay accent and light late sugars; some spices, very light fruits; correct bitterness. A pleasant and refreshing beer, with a rather true Belgian character.
3.3 Clear yellow pour w/ a white head. Aroma is light citrus, yeast. Taste is dry, light citrus, Belgian yeast. Nice lacing.
2.1 Bottle from Kroger. Light pour with a big white head. Aroma is grainy, maybe some citrus, and some cardboard. Taste is more wet cardboard, bitter, and maybe some lemon.
3.5 gold color; musty aroma; a crisp, light, refreshing beer; bitter, hoppy, and slightly spicy with some earthy Belgian yeast notes
3.4 @ Hyde Park Wine and Spirits / Cincinnati OH --- Clear medium amber, clean white head that slowly reduces to a cover, swirls of lace. Nice aroma of malt and lemon. Refreshing wheaty malt that moves neatly through the palate, adding light lemongrass, before cutting to a light, but assertive hop finish. Just a nice drinking beer, uncomplicated and well-crafted. Perfect warm spring afternoon brew.
3.3 A bit light all around, but well suited for a spring day working in the yard.
2.7 pours a clear straw yellow with a medium bubbly white head. Aroma is grass with a hint of lemon. Taste is clean with an ever so slight lemon hop presence. dry finish without much linger. Ok.
3.2 Malty aroma and golden in appearance with a thick white head. A crisp pils like taste and little bite on palate just enough hops for bittering.
2.9 12 oz bottle. Poured a clear straw yellow color with a thin white top, no lacing. Taste of lemon zest, slightly sweet citrus with floral finish. High fizzy carbonation, medium body. Palate is the best thing this beer has going for it.
3.3 A sweet slightly grainy aroma come from this clear yellow beer with a small white head of tiny bubbles. A slight bitter taste is taken over by a sweetness and buttery flavor. Its light bodied and smooth. Overall a good beer and worth a try
3.0 Had a tap at Highland House Sheboygan. Aroma of lemon, but flavor has hoppiness that makes it not as refreshing as I expected.
2.8 Glassy yellow in color, the head is small, but its nose is potent with something fat and sticky. The mystery character isn’t really sugary, might be fruity, but it might be the hops. Whatever it is, it’s light and gentle. It really doesn’t smell much like your run of the mill blonde until you take a sip. Grain flavor is not present at all in the aroma. Otherwise, it tastes just as you’d expect of the style, with a dry, almost white wine-like finish.
3.1 Bottle. It pours a deep clear gold with a thick fluffy head. Lots of nutty earthy yeast notes. Medium bodied, it has a very earthy taste, barnyard, spice, leather. Not so bad.
3.9 Bottle. Pours crystal clear golden color. Thin white head with good lacing. Slight hops and lots of belgian yeast in the nose. That along some caramel in the flavor. Refreshing.
3.2 12 oz. bottle best by 5/18/14 poured into tulip. Sparkling golden hue with a thick white foamy head with excellent retention and lacing. Aroma is grassy and dank Belgian yeast with some citrus zest. Flavor is light and crisp with slight citrus tartness up front with a light biscuity finish. Not amazing, but this would be a decent session beer.
3.2 Draught at New Belgium Brewing Company in Fort Collins, on April 6, 2014. Clear golden color, white head. Sweet, malty, floral, hibiscus taste. Sweet, floral aftertaste. Fizzy mouthfeel, low bitterness. Sweet, floral scent.
3.6 bottle to glass; really really enjoyed this one - grass and citrus in aroma. taste was slight citrus, crisp hops in middle this would be great on a hot day...
0.8 New Belgium brewery has produced some GREAT BEERS! Spring Blonde is NOT one of them! I wish I could have my money back, I dumped 5 of the 6 bottles down the drain...it was not drinkable! I am no beer snob but even I can’t drink something this foul! Gross, gross, gross! I truly think puke would taste better! Do not buy this! You are better off with the simple Fat Tire! I am still a New Belgium fan, just not a fan of this particular beer, my taste buds are still trying to get rid of that AWFUL first sip!
3.0 On draft at Tap 25. It pours very clear, bright yellow with a white head. The aroma has light crackery malts and some bubblegum, banana sweetness on the nose. The flavor is doughy bread with touches of bubblegum and unripe banana. Floral and lightly soapy in the finish. Meh.
3.2 Pale gold pour, thick white head. Aroma is fruity, apple, grassy. yeasty. Flavour earthy minerally, yeasty, light sweetness, apple, pear fruitiness. Hay and light biscuity malt.
3.0 Aromas of floral and grassy hops, honeyed and bready malts, subtle notes of strawberry candy. Clear gold with a soft orange tint, fully lasting bubbly white head. Dry, some strawberry ice cream up front, grass, cracker. Light, refreshing.
