New Belgium Sunshine Wheat

New Belgium Sunshine Wheat

Does it get any sunnier than two people in love? Sunshine Wheat came into the world as Wedding Wheat, a beer Jeff brewed in celebration of his wedding to Kim.

A filtered wheat beer, Sunshine Wheat swirls in the mouth with ripples of coriander and orange peel tartness, settling into a sea of honey and apple tones.

3.7 Had it on tap at New Belgium brewery! Aroma: crisp wheaty . Color: duty yellow Appearance: light white head no lacing Taste: Smooth wheaty summery taste
3.6 12 ounce can into pint glass, best before 8/7/2016. Pours lightly hazy golden straw color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, pepper, clove, light banana, wheat, cracker, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasnat aromas with good balance of pale malt, spices, and fruity/earthy yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, pepper, clove, light banana, wheat, cracker, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange peel, coriander, pepper, clove, wheat, cracker, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice robustness and balance of pale malt, spices, and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly creamy/grainy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a good pale wheat ale style. All around good robustness and balance of pale malt, spices, and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
2.8 Originally rated on 6/5/08. my favorite thing about this was the aroma, after pouring it I was reminded of fruit loops cereal, which i used to love. However that was the highlight, Average yellow body with thin head, except for a very slight citrus taste it was bland and watery. i will give this another shot in a few weeks because N.B. is a good company and deserves another try.
3.4 12 oz. bottle. Poured slightly hazy straw, white head. Aroma was coriander and wheat. Taste was sweet and wheaty.
2.9 Draught, smallish head, light hazy deepish yellow color, spicey and light orange aroma, with a hint of wheat, citrusy wheaty flavor. ;ight to medium bitterness with a sour hint. Drinkable but a little muted and not too interesting.
3.7 I had this on draft at adnielsen’s wedding, which makes adnielsen’s wedding a valid place entry on RateBeer. I always scrolled past this stuff in the store but it is a pretty damn decent beer along the lines of a more subtle (and better) Blue Moon. It’s cloudy orange w/ a nice, fresh citrus and floral nose. There’s some mild yeast character w/ a bit of sweet orange and a light, creamy texture. I could definitely see myself drinking a lot of them--because I did.
3.4 Draft pour. Lemony body and aftertaste with a straw front decent wheat beer.
2.2 Tasted in Breckenridge. Served in shaker with slice of lemon on the rim. Very clear in appearance. Thin sustained white head. Aroma was very faint citrus, light and airy - since filtered loses much of the phenols found in an unfiltered. Fairly watery taste - again citrus, but too light for my palate.
2.9 On tap at the Blue Canyon B&G in Golden, CO, this pours translucent straw into the glass with a tiny ring of suds that follow the pour. A faint wheat to the nose. Flavors are light wheat and grain, a very small amount of coriander and finish with tiny spice notes, very curt. Extremely light in the mouth, the zesty carbonation provides for a thirst quencher in the hot summer sun. Not bad for the style, but could be a tad more complex. Just this side of seltzery.
3.1 4 oz pour on draft at ChurchKey for the New Belgium Pre-Tour de Fat Party. Clear straw yellow with off-white head. Aromas of wheat, floral, malt. Tastes of wheat, corn, malt. Light body with a dry finish.
3.4 Bottle at home. Pours a very light yellow with a fluffy white head. Aroma is wheat, some yeastiness, slight citrus. Flavor follows. Very crisp and refreshing. Slight sweet notes as well. Nice beer.
3.4 Its a golden ale that is light and tasty from the jump. This smell like summer and wins me over every day.
3.0 Old rating. Decent wheat beer. Some hay, slightly bitter, slight fruit sweetness. Light, golden, easy drinker.
3.5 Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a lightly hazed golden amber color with a two finger head of billowy white foam. The head fades super fast leaving just a trace of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell –The aroma of the beer mostly of a wheaty smell mixed with some other aromas of yeast and a moderate sum of an orange, peach and pear smell. Along with these aromas are some other smells of a light grassy and hay-like nature as well a hint of a lemon citrus. Taste – The taste begins with a wheaty and slightly bready taste that is accompanied by some flavors of orange and pear. A yeastiness and grassiness develop more and more as the taste advances, bringing with them a little bit of a coriander spice. As the taste moves onto the end, some grainy flavors and a little bit of hay work their way onto the tongue, leaving one with a moderately sweet, but still rather nice and crisp wheaty flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather thin with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher side. For the lighter abv. and flavor profile of the brew, the feel is quite appropriate and makes for an easy drinking brew overall. Overall – A decent wheat ale here. Rather easy drinking with a good level of flavor. Not a bad summer style, more session like brew.
2.8 Decent carb smooth, very mellow fruity wheat flavor. Easy to drink because not a whole lot of complexity there. Not a bad thing though.
3.1 From 10 year old note: Bottle: Yellow beer with white head. Smell fruits, malts and grains. Taste is sweetbitter, fruity and some yeast this goes on into the aftertaste...
3.1 Bottle into pint glass. Lightly clouded, pale yellow, almost no head. Light hay, some honey, some floral notes. Light bitterness, quite sweet. Light body, light carbonation. Fine.
2.8 "thinner than some others (especially when compared to the Belgian brewers), but it stands up flavor-wise against the better ones. worth trying, but not going out of you’re way for unless you’re a huge wit fan."
3.0 Bottle from Total Wine Boca. Poured a bright copper yellow that was clear with a solid two finger head. Lacing. Aroma is citrus (orange and lemon) with some floral notes and bread. The taste is similar with the citrus coming mostly through with some cheerios, cereal. Finish is soft, but crisp.
3.5 I had this at Global Brew. Pours yellow with a white head. Taste wheat, citrus. I thought this was ok. I could drink this again.
3.2 Bottle. Pours yellow with white head. Aroma is lemony, wheat, lots of citrus. Taste is crisp, smooth, very citrusy and floral. Okay.
3.0 Bottle. Clear yellow piss color with white head. Peppery, citrusy tart wheat, bready aromas. Medium bodied with average co2. Bready pale wheat flavors with some dry spices, peppercorn___drying finish---decent.
2.7 Bottle in Sedona. Neutral aroma, hint of citrus. Light bodied. Coriander, grassy, vegetal, and lightly hopped. Touch of sweet honey on the finish. Meh.
2.5 Not the best offering. Really weak aroma and a pretty neutral taste. Drinkable but not preferred.
3.1 Draught at bar. Orange color, white head. Bittersweet taste with orange peel, citrus, wheat, coriander and a bit of hops. Bittersweet finish with citrus, orange peel and wheat. Very nice wheat.
3.0 Pours a clear golden color with white head. Cereal grains and bit of spice and light fruit on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a sweet note.
2.6 Thin head with hazy golden color. A little skunky but nothing terrible. The problem is, the skunkiness over powers because there is so little flavor.
2.0 Bought this one for my wife; thought I should give it a try. Aroma is not great - some surprising skunkiness and floor cleaner type aroma. There is some orange peel and wheat, but that is after the unpleasant smells. Looks very light, watery, nearly clear with a good amount of white foam that leaves some lacing. Taste is weak, almost medicine-like with hardly any trace of wheat, just watered down orange peel. Palate is ok, better than I thought it would be. I thought it would be an upgraded version of Blue Moon, which my wife also likes. If you want to re-create this beer, take some Bud Select 55 and throw an orange rind in it. I was not expecting to like this beer, but I thought it would be at least drinkable - I’m not a total beer snob. Don’t buy this.
2.8 Reviewed from notes. This beer was poured into pint glasses most of the time I’ve had it, but once I had it in a weizen glass and the head was exceptionally larger by a good whopping 2 fingers. The appearance was a hazy golden orange color with some light yellow tinges around the edges. The head was about a finger’s worth of white foaminess that quickly died and left some light lacing. The smell had some light coriander and orange peel combining into an earthy and somewhat floral sort of way. The taste was a sweet citrus of sorts with a filling wheatiness rounding it out. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium with a decent sessionable quality surrounding it. Overall, this was a decent American Pale Wheat Ale, nothing to go bonkers about, but I’ve had this several times with cheese burgers and pulled pork sandwiches and it went pretty good.
3.2 Pour light golden straw with a thin white head. Aroma is of wheat, spices, citrus, and sweet malts. Taste is about the same as the aroma but a bit more robust. Has a medium-light body with a semi watery mouthfeel and a Sam dry, mostly sweet, medium-short finish. Overall, a deccent wheat ale that is a pretty nice summer beer.
