Since 1516 Brewers have led the purity revolution. They mandated only four natural ingredients be used to brew beer. This Reinheistgebot law was the first ever food purity regulation and New Glarus Brewmaster Dan Carey has consistently respected our palates by employing yeast, water, barley and hops to explore a wide spectrum of flavor.
Today Dan pushes the purity envelope by using Organic Hallertau Hops from Germany with Wisconsin organically malted barley to create a complex and assertively hoppy golden ale. This beer is even natrually carbonated, 100% bottle fermented means you can expect a flavor celebration to dance cleanly across your palate. Raise your glass and toast to Wisconsin’s common sense Revolution.

3.4The Dan Journal #347. Tasted 5/3/10. 12oz bottle. Filtered and lively with a bright orange, golden hue. Layer of white head. Aromas of cereal grains and a touch citrus. Medium bodied with a bright effervescence and subtle estery notes. Smooth and sessionable!
2.9Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy yellow color with a small white head. Has a sweetish malty grainy hoppy aroma. Sweetish malty flavor with some weak hoppy hints. Has a sweetish malty hoppy finish.
4.2So, drinking an organic beer is like sterilizing the needle before a lethal injection, or eating diet food at McDonalds. The two just don’t compute, but it’s fun to give it a try anyways. New Glarus Organic Revolution is a delicious beer, organic or not. A real winner!
2.7Faint yellow pour with a thin white head. Not much aroma present. The body is somewhat thin, with a crisp, refreshing palate. Very little taste, just some faint citrus near the end. A bit watery, but this does make me think "fresh". A decent session brew.
2.4Pours a slightly hazy gold. Small aroma of cereal grains and hops. Taste is pretty basic. Corn, barley, hops, yeast, beer. Decent body, good balance. Can’t say anything bad about it. First orgainic beer I’ve had.
3.5bottle-sampled this many times over the past 3 years. bright orange witha small foamy white head. nose is somewhat non-descript, but includes light biscut, sweet hops, and spicy notes. green hop flavors-organic and green! some nice yeast twang (a characteristic of this brewery) shows up in the palate that makes me think this is a lager for some reason. nice hoppy/spicy finish. great sessionable beer. Why the low ratings? another case of big beer bias? i guess. New Glarus-one of my top 5 fav american brewers.
2.6I’m not sure of a reason to drink this beer except for sessions. There isn’t much flavor except a really faint aftertaste. Don’t bother.
3.4Beer pours a hazy yellow color. Smells more like a wheat beer than a pale ale, with no detectable hop smell. Taste is a little citrus and malt. There is a little hop presence, but not much. A nice, very drinkable beer but not what I was expecting from an American Pale Ale.
2.7Organic is fine, but I don’t fetishize it, and there are some areas where organic usually produces worse results (that’s particularly true in high-end chocolates). Here the problem isn’t the organic ingredients, I suspect, but the basic beer. I didn’t think I would see this beer called an "American Pale Ale" when I went to look it up--I just drank it with my brother-in-law for the pre-present opening Christmas libations. It is definitely more well rounded than a kolsch--I thought, "hmmm, a touch of Belgian ale here?"--mostly because the finish gives such a dry hoppiness and slight vegetal quality. I can definitely see the influence of the Hallertau hops, which are not a favorite of mine. Yellow and overall plain complexion, including the palate, which is moderately bubbly.
2.7Bottle from biggcb. Dirty gold color that’s topped with a moderate off-white head with just a few patches of retention. The aroma is airy; some caramel, grains, floral notes and fruit but it’s a really mild scent. Easy drinking beer, probably a decent drink after some yard work, whatever, but the flavor is overall watery and bland and pretty much in line with the aroma. Caramel and doughy malts. Hops are resiny with a splash of citrus. Very little bitterness. Drinkable but not a lot there and it takes some digging to figure out what’s going on.
3.4Brown pour. Tastes great. Very easy to drink. Nice balance between the sweet malts and a slight hop finish. Some particulate. I honestly didn’t expect much from this beer and I thought the "organic" tag was only there as a gimmick but this beer is really good.
2.3Pours a clear, golden brown color. Two-finger head of white foam. Retention is pretty good. Lacing is spotty, but decent.
The nose is very light. Some grass, maybe some corn, and a light floral hint.
Tastes of corn and barley notes. Light hints of grass and maybe some malts. Hint of hops, lightly. Ends with a weird, bitter twang, that is slightly off-putting.
Light and crisp.
If I liked macros, I think that I might like this one more. As it is, I don’t really like it much, at all. I don’t think I’ll be having this one again.
3.9Bottle. Pours lightly hazy gold with a nice off-white head. Nose is floral & spicy hops, some candied orange peel, very light toffee malt. Flavor is amazing floral & earthy hops - a bit of mint, a bit of honey, a bit of lemon. Perfectly rounded out by a nice crisp maltiness. Perhaps a bit sweet, but I bought this bottle a few months ago. I think the low score here comes from this being so unlike other APAs due to the Hallertau. Its more Kellerbier than APA & I love it.
2.8From bottle courtesy of Dave F. Light bitter character in the nose, mild resin with little citrus or grassy character. Mild dusty grain and a bit of caramel sweetness. Medium amber body, very hazy, with thin off-white head. Medium bodied with high carbonation and light chalky finish. Starts with light acidity, mild bitter character and not much sweet character. Bit of grain and light caramel. Carbonic acidity with chalky finish and light astringent bitter.
2.9A rather bland pale ale. Not very flavorful but drinkable. Medium cloudy yellow body with a medium white head.
3.3BOTTLE: cloudy gold pour. Aroma is wheat, sweet/fruit, some yeast. Taste has a slight hop edge, plus grain. Enjoyable beer.
3.3Deep yellow with foamy head that dissipates. Sweet malt and yeast aroma. Grapefruit hoppiness. A little residual bitterness.
3.6Bottle via trade with rudolf. Nice hazy golden-orange with a large white head. Love the aroma - citrus and pineapple, some honey and grape must. Medium bodied. Flavour is not quite up the standard of the fantastic aroma, but still pretty nice, with a good balance and slightly toffeeish malt and orange & grapefruit hops. Easy to drink, and easy to enjoy.
3.5Dark orange-yellow with a white cover. Aroma is citrus, pine hops, crisp, sweet malt, light fruits. Taste is citrus hops, sweet caramel, apples.
2.8Bottle - Pours a cloudy amber with a small white head. The smell is the best part of this beer -- sweet and fruity, with honey, grapes, and wheat. The taste is kind of weird -- the first couple sips were terrible, it mellowed out in the middle, and I poured the end of the beer into my wife’s glass and moved on to something else. It tastes pretty smooth, with a mild malt and grain flavor, but there’s really not much else. Stale-tasting hops dominate the finish, and kind of weight the beer down with blahness. It’s medium-bodied, but a little too much carbonation dominates. I wanted to try it just because it’s New Glarus, but pretty mediocre overall.
3.3Very light brown pour with a white head. Aroma of light malt, a little sweetness. Taste is mellow with a nice malty aftertaste. Very tasty beer, Well balanced and refreshing. Better than I thought, I almost decided to not buy it.
3.1Bottle via trade. This one wasn’t bad, but really didn’t excite me much. Cloudy golden color with a white head. Aroma is bready malt and grain, maybe a little yeast. Flavor is pale malt, grain, wheat, yeast, and earth/grass. Palate fairly light and crisp. Very drinkable, but not much to it.
3.012 oz bottle sampled on the Hard Hat Tour (New Glarus, WI). Pours a heavily hazed golden hue with a touch of amber, offwhite decent head that dies to a decent film, laces well enough. Aromas are lighter, light floral and citrus compliment pale malt sweetness, crisp. Flavors are light yet full, pale malts, a touch of flaked wheat? Crisp malt body, light citrus but more floral hop. Finish mellow pale sweetness, bread, light floral and bitter finish. This is ok, a bit mellow for my APA tastes.
3.2Poured from the bottle a golden orange color with very little head. Taste is of some grain and hops. Was a little bit more bitter than expecting but overall not that bad
3.2Nice golden pour. Thin white head. Aroma is light malt hops. Pretty nondescript beer, but pretty tasty.
3.5Draft at Glarner Stube. Pours a clear gold, off-white head. Nose is very noble and soft, distinctly Continental and clean. On taste, there is a clean bitterness, nice grass notes. Very clean malt character, reasonably dry. A touch of fruitiness as well. Pretty tasty stuff.
3.212 oz bottle purchased as part of a sampler pack. Pours with little to no head. Aroma of hops. Golden color. A good light tasting beer.
3.6One of the first organic beers I’ve ever had and I was pleasantly surprised. Golden copper pour with white head. Smell of hops and some citrus. Fresh tasting flavor with hoppy finish. Good beer!
3.312 oz Bottle. Pours a hazed orange-golden, with a nice white fringe. Smells very lightly of grassy hops, a bit of orange peel, and some light herbs. Flavor is dominated by a crisp malt snap and some light sweet candied almonds. Some yeast, a nip of alcohol and let behind is a very drinkable, but mildly flavored pale ale. I’d take some more hops. There’s a little funkiness to the overall flavor profile and it’s not as snappy as I like from it, but it’s alright.
3.1Bottle, Pours hazy dark gold with a frothy white head. Sweet citrus, grass and toffee aroma and taste. Grass and earth finish.
