New Glarus Road Slush

New Glarus Road Slush

This dark ale is a hearty and satisfying reward for those of us who embrace the frozen tundra. Uncut oatmeal fresh from Chilton, Wisconsin gives this Stout a "sink into it" smoothness that slides you into its depth. Handcrafted English Chocolate malt and Wisconsin Victory malt combine to balance this robust ale. Expect this ale to pour a luxurious rich head over a rich black ruby body. The powerful malt bouquet will greet you as you tip this silky smoothness from your glass. Our Oatmeal Stout is handcrafted in the time-honored traditions. Serve just above room temperature and relax -- road construction season will soon return.

4.1 New Glarus Road Slush has a thick, beige head, that, unfortunately, dies away rather quickly and leaves little lacing. The aroma is of sweetness, brown bread, mild chocolate and coffee, and oats. Taste is the same, with an acidic char and bitterness, which seems to come more from the char rather than from any hop bittering. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and New Glarus Road Slush finishes wet, but with an underlying powdery aspect.
3.5 Bottle. Clear mahogany with large tan head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Medium creamy body, roasted malt, chocolate, some mineral notes, malty breadyness, and a bitter malt finish.
3.8 Bottle: Nearly black, with a creamy tan head. Nutty, chocolate aroma. Creamy....oatmeal, chocolate and caramel malts, nutty flavor. More along porter-lines, but quite tasty.
3.3 This is a brown beer and I might call it a porter rather than a stout, not that that is really an issue. It’s moderately roasty and relatively mild but pretty full bodied w/ mild carbonation. It finishes clean w/ just a little bit of bitterness. Not really a notable beer but tasty enough.
3.4 12 oz.. bottle pours a dark brown with small quickly vanishing beige head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is primarily roasted malts, with hints of oatmeal, nuts, and chocolate. Taste is on the sweet side with a drier finish. Body is light to medium with a sliky smooth mouthfeel and not too much carbonation. This one reminded me more of a brown ale than a stout, but did not disappoint either.
3.4 Poured a very dark brown with a moderate beige head that faded to a nice lacing. Aroma was of coffee, roasted malts and a ever-so light fruitiness. Taste was predominately of roasted malts with coffee and dark chocolate overtones. Finish had a moderate hop bitterness. Palate was good. Overall, a nice sweet stout from the folks @ New Glarus.
3.4 bottle from our Wisconsin snowmobile trip, poured into dglass shared with pls at club w.. black pour chalky aroma, taste is a pal, ni lik eit
3.2 Way too watery for my liking. Decent aroma, but only has the flavor of coffee grounds.
3.9 Many thanks to Chris for bringing this bottle! Toll würzig-schokoladiger Geruch. The beer starts fresh, smooth. Not too sweet, nice malty with a great smooth dark chocolaty and very dry body. Nice and not too bitter, nice smooth roast, thick, creamy, very smooth and great. Nice full smooth malty chocolaty aftertaste.
3.6 Aroma is dark/roasted malts and a mix of light fruit and citrus. The flavor is roasted malts, fruit/berries, slight sweetness and an earthy/mildly acidic finish.
3.1 Brought back from Madison, almost brown ale like, caramel and coffee smells, a bit nutty, thin mouth feel, easy to drink and smooth dry finish. Solid stout, more subtle than velvet Merlin and other oatmeal stouts.
3.8 12oz bottle. Pours very dark brown/mahogany almost black, stiff tan head that looks like crap midwest road slush... but in a tasty beery way. roasted tastiness.
3.9 Bottle. Pours dark brown with thin tan head. Nose is mild coffee and chocolate. Taste is similar with some coffee bitterness. Nice.
4.0 one of the better oatmeal stouts out there. nice and milky and oaty flavored with a nice bitter roasted malt finish bottle pour at home black with a think cream head. smells like roasted malts and coffee. super crushable and refreshing.
3.9 2/14/15 - Bottle - Smooth, clean pour, very smooth to drink. Taste and strength light but enjoyed while eating. Liked the hint of coffee. Never had an Oatmeal Stout before, but after trying this offering, I will seek out future Oatmeal Stouts and offerings from New Glarus - another reason to leave Illinois and head to Wisconsin!
2.8 Bottle. Poured opaque dark brown with white head that dissipated. A little underwhelming and thin for a stout. Burnt or smoked dark cocoa flavor, but not as velvety or smooth as expected. New Glarus should tweak this in my opinion!
4.2 I’m not a fan of stouts but new glarus made this one work. has very good flavor the only thing i’m not a fan of is the bitter after taste. overall a great beer. go get some.
3.7 Bottle pours a dark hazy brown with a slight reddish tint and a thick creamy head. Aromas of chocolate and toasted malt. Flavor is semi sweet. Nice stout.
3.8 Bottle poured at Fire Pit in Antioch. Black with off white head. Has a carmely light cocoa taste to it. Early and some malts. Sweet. Good beer
3.7 These guys don’t make a lot of mistakes. A really nice stout. Pours a chestnut brown with creamy off white head. Aromas are nice sweet milk chocolate with coffee and red berry notes. Nice dry finish. Coffee and bitter chocolate flavors. Good stuff.
3.3 Nice aroma of sweet and dark chocolate, raisin, and hints of vanilla. Nice ebony color with a thick tan head. Sweet roasted malt dominates initially. More faint in flavor than aroma. Bitter chocolate next, and finishes with a nice balance of sweet and bitter, and with some dryness. Mouth feel is a bit watery. O.k.
4.2 One of the only good thing about being in WI in late January..a smooth New Glarus stout. Beautiful dark ruby brown with a lasting creamy khaki head. Roasty and chocolatey malts. Not overly roasty thankfully. Just enough bitterness for balance and a perfect amount of sweetness. Smooth medium body. Fantastic malty character all around. Full of aroma and flavor and still super drinkable. Exactly what this day needed.
3.7 A nice roasted flavor with hints of chocolate. There are nice undertones of coffee that blend nicely with the hops.
3.7 A roasted and chocolate aroma. Medium bodied and very drinkable. A more complex malt profile than most.
4.0 Deep brown with nice frothy head. Great aroma, I even noticed it after opening the bottle while searching for a glass. Aroma is mild roasted coffee and sweet chocolate. Taste is robust and roasty with a sweet chocolatey finish. Smooth and full bodied. This was very good going to be one of my go to stouts
4.2 Nice thin black pour with a big fluffy head. Roasted mild coffee aroma with good hint of chocolate. Smooth velvety mouthfeel. Sweet roasted taste with plenty of cocoa flavor. Really good.
4.0 This pours a dark brown color with a slight head. The aroma is sweet and malty. The taste is nice and complex with molasses, toasted oats, and hints of coffee. This is a smooth, well-balanced stout that really delivers. The after taste is a little bitter with a lingering oat flavor.
4.1 "a budget SS Oatmeal Stout clone! Holy crap...I don’t know that i can tell the two apart. they nailed it...so here’s my review for Sam Smiths...only difference is a half point lower for feel. "still the benchmark as far as Oatmeal Stouts are concerned. I’m glad SS no longer does the clear glass bottles...it was hit or miss whether or not your beer would be spoiled, but now it’s always great. Perfect nose, great smooth mouthfeel, if a little thin. Roasted everything, highly drinkable." "
3.0 Reviewed from notes: chocolate and roasted malt on the nose, with just a bit of coffee. Chocolate, roasted malt, and hint of oats. Very smooth.
2.8 Really? Do you just take all your "standard" beers and make them a mild ale of some sort? Come on. I love your fruits and unchained series, but this is shit.
