New Glarus Snowshoe Ale

New Glarus Snowshoe Ale

This authentic amber Irish ale is slow brewed with a blend of three malted barleys and finished with four varieties of hops. Then we dry-hopped in the lager tank to add a spicy note to warm your winter evenings.

Expect this beer to be a beautiful copper-red, with a fruity ale body and a spiced hop finish.

3.4 12 oz bottle pours copper with a little head. Aroma is malty and fruity. Taste is a bit different for the style. A little spicy. Good bitterness. Thin body and a moderately bitter finish. Not bad.
3.1 Bottle. Lactic caramel malt aroma. Clear amber with with large off-white head. Mildly sweet apple and very light caramel malt flavor. Lightly bitter hay finish. Okay but malt flavor pretty subdued.
3.0 bottle. Amber with one finger head. Medium malt body. This strikes me as very earthy with a fair amount of crystal malt. I think it’s rather well done, but the flavors are not ones that I enjoy much.
2.9 Dark amber pour with very thin layer of offwhite head and light lacing. Slightly roasted aroma, some carmel, grain, metallics and cream. Overall on the sweet side and very euro. Average carbonation, lighter mouthfeel and sour somewhat filmy finish. Nice carmel and bready malt flavor, very earthy, slightly floral, roasty chocolate that’s very evenly blended with euro metallic hops, a little melon too. Great amber with german flare.
3.4 12oz bottle. Pours amber, off white head. Carmel aroma, taste is sweet clear carmel malt, nice finish. Overall a solid beer.
3.4 This is an amber in the old American craftbrew style. To me, this means it is a malty beer and not just a slightly darker APA. All of these beer styles are great, it is just my wont to classify things. Ignore me if you wish. This one in particular has a nice copper color to it and a small head that nonetheless leaves a good bit of lace behind. The nose has a lightly floral note which seems to come from hops but the flavor is all about the malt. There is a solid caramel and toffee backbone and just a small amount of sweetness. The carbonation is crisp across the tongue and there is just a touch of earthy hop bitterness in the finish which serves to accent the malt. This is a nicely put together beer and a good example of the style.
3.6 Bottle from New Glarus. Poured amber with white head. Aroma full of malt caramel musk. Light carb med bod. Semi sweet malty tang taste. Pretty classic.
3.2 Bottle, pour is amber, rich in color. Caramel malt in the aroma. Taste is caramel malt, bread and nuts.
3.0 Reviewed from notes: cereal grains and floral notes on the aroma. Cereal, citrus, and earthy on the palate. Finishes with a slight hop bite.
3.1 Bottle courtesy of Atom. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Clear amber with a moderate off-white head. Bready caramel malt and astringent bitter weedy hops flavor. Body on the light side of medium, average carbonation.
3.4 Bottle shared. Nose full of toffee a d crystal malt sweetness. Taste is similar. A little sweet. Pretty tasty for what it is.
3.8 Bottle from New Glarus brewery. Nice bready aromas and flavors. Soft bitter finish. Not bad.
3.5 From Mars... Dark copper pour, nice aromas of bock-like spice and sweet caramel, even a dusting of cocoa powder. More cinnamon spice right away, the middle is all lightly toasted malts, and a finish of very light pine hop. Just a touch too sweet still in the finish, but otherwise solid.
3.7 Bottle. A good amber ale, fruity and yeasty, but not overpowering. Great fragrance. Taste is a little sour at times, but still refreshing.
3.8 Tastey and refreshing. A new fave. Would go well with fish.
2.3 Fruity yeasty malty aroma. Cloudy light orange amber with a thin white quickly fading head. Earthy. Bready. Soft bitter finish. Not bad. Kind of a standard Red ale.
3.5 Bottle pour into a pint glass. Pours a clear amber with a light beige head of foam. Good lacing and retention. The aroma is malty sweet with just a touch of spice. Maybe there’s a rye addition. The taste is mostly sweet and crackery. Light body with medium carbonation.
3.4 Twelve ounce bottle from Woodman’s in Beloit. This pours clear amber and and has a small beige layer of foam. A nice aroma that is full of malts and more delicate fruit. Some dry hop notes brings a bit of spiciness to the flavor. The Irish malts are close to genuine and the fruit is evident. A little earth and toffee. This drinks a lot like an English Bitter. Pleasant.
3.2 A solid amber. Pours a beautiful deep copper color. Nice bready aromas and flavors. Fruity and sweet with some nice bitter notes. Nice.
3.9 Light red color. Pretty strong fruity malty smell. Nice light crisp flavor. Great balance of malt and hops. Just a touch of fruityness. Very smooth and refreshing.
4.9 Sweet caramel notes. Hops are in the background and provide an outstanding balance. This ale would sing with almost comfort food and is a great seasonal offering.
3.2 Great copper pour. Light malty flavor on the front of the tongue. Not as flavorful as other New Glarus options, but good & easy to drink.
3.8 nuts, caramel, roasty, resin, leaves, woody, brown, brown foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, lively,
3.1 A solid offering from NG again. Although probably my least favorite of all of their beers I have had. Bottle pours clear amber brown with medium white head. Taste very hoppy kind of overpowering.
3.4 Plain tasting ale with good balance and mouthfeel. More malt than hop. Good clear, crisp, amber color pour. This is a normal red ale with nothing special. I believe a better name should just be New Glarus Red Ale.
3.2 12/20/13 This is the least impressed I've ever been with a brew from these folks. It's not bad; just kind of blah.
3.8 This is one of my least favorite New Glarus brews. To be fair, I just don’t usually like Irish ambers in general, but NG has a habit of overdelivering and making me like styles I don’t normally get into. This isn’t bad, just a little sweet and boring.
3.4 Bottle, thanks Jim! Pours clear copper amber, small beige head, decent lacing. Aroma is caramel, toffee, light roast. Light plus sweet, little bitterness, perhaps a touch of hay. Medium body, a bit creamy.
3.4 12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a medium amber with minimal head. Aroma of mostly caramel with a slight hint of earthy hops. Taste is light bitter. Caramel with some spicy and earthy hops. Medium bodied with s slightly thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad.
3.2 Slightly disappointing amber ale from the good brewery. Color is right and the malt/bitterness is right, just missing something to make is awesome
