4.1Educators on tap- Floral hops in nose watery carame appearance. Hoppy caramel and smooth malt. Great smooth drinking.
3.8Pours golden with a full white head. The aroma is grapefruit and orange. The taste has a sweet bitterness, mostly grapefruit with some orange, and an aftertaste of grapefruit. Pretty tasty, as you might expect from the good folks at New Glarus Brewing Company
3.9Pours a hazy golden yellow on tap with fluffy white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of nice old school hop notes over nice malty base. Taste follows, booze well hidden and impressively drinkable. Good stuff.
4.0From Bushel and Peck. Balanced, clean, good hop flavor, Very good. Serving: Bottle
3.7Pours hazy orange amber with low white head. Aroma of citrus, tangerine, tropical fruit, lime. Taste is big pine bitter up front followed by a mellow fruit sweetness that gets lost in all that hoppiness... light and smooth body with average carbonation.
3.7Ar: Marmalade, orange pith, melon, and peach--all moderate intensity. Ap: Deep gold and clear; medium white head with moderate retention, leaving a ring of fine bubbles and a very thin, non-uniform cap of bubbles. T: Evergreen and pine up front with a low sweetness; orange pith, grapefruit rind, and mixed berries; toasty malt with some moderate light caramel notes; bitterness is high but very smooth; finish is lingering lemon, pine, and mint. P: Medium body with high carbonation; finish is dry. O: Tasty 2XIPA; a good cross-section of American hop flavors with a fairly pronounced intensity; bitterness is very firm and clean, and there is a nice malt backbone, with toast and light caramels, to provide an interesting counterpoint to the hops.
3.9Really smooth and easy to drink. I liked it quite a bit. Had a nice piney taste.
4.4I got a chance to hear about Abe, the eagle who flew with the 8th Infantry, while touring the Madison capitol building. That poor guy didn’t have much luck in his later years. A fire in the capitol put an end to his days. He was trapped in his cage and inhaled too much smoke. Years later, his taxidermied body was destroyed in a later capitol fire. All of this after surviving battles and bounties placed on his head by Southerners. Anyway, Scream has a tasty Imperial IPA named after him, so I’d say he has better fortune. This brew pours orange. Aroma reveals a careful balance between dank hops and caramel malt. Same for the flavor. Tropical fruit notes counterbalanced by toffee-like malt. There’s bitterness but it tastes like less than the 85 IBU’s. It’s a thick brew that totally buries its ABV. New Glarus makes Imperial IPA as well as they make anything else it seems.
3.4Thanks Virby44 for the bottle! Poured into a snifter showing moderately filtered orange honey with sparse white foam.
The nose shows resinous pine intermixed with bready malts; comes together to give a slight leafy note.
The palate is light bodied and highly carbonated. Flavors of clean pine with a slightly tart citric note running throughout. Slight alcoholic spiciness and a moderately strong and sharp IPA bitterness on the finish.
3.1Bottle.
A- Dank, papaya, mango, caramel.
A- Orange color, cloudy liquid, white head.
T- Bitter, caramel, bready, tropical fruits.
P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish.
O- New Glarus does an IPA right. Nice and balanced. Not too malty and definitely not aggressive.
3.1Draft. Pours light copper with off-white head. Grapefruit and pine aroma. Grapefruit with resiny pine notes.
3.8Out of the bottle, poured a light copper, clear, with a pillowy off-white head. Bursting with all sorts of hop aromas (resinous pine, floral, citrus). On the palate the malt comes through with caramel sweetness to balance the abundance of hops. I get notes of grapefruit pith and ginger. Complex, creamy and refreshing.
3.4Bottle to snifter. Looks solid; a hazy orange with foamy off-white head. Smells of fruity hops with a moderately bittersweet backbone. Tastes like it smells with some bitter hops as well. Mouthfeel is medium to medium full-bodied and finishes with a touch of unaversive heat. Solid.
3.7Bottle from Greg (gregwilsonstl) -- cheers! There’s a good amount of hops and malt in this, but the main words it left me thinking were "subdued" and "balanced." Very clean taste, with a light, grainy malt profile and enough hops to be a IIPA while still being reasonably restrained. Pleasant, light, and enjoyable.
3.9RBSG 2016 shared at the Grand Tasting after-party in the hotel lobby. Bottle. Honey coloured body, bright grapefruit citrus hop profile, balanced pale malts, assertive bitterness. Very good.
3.9Intense citrus fruits, bitter orange, overripe tropical fruits, passion fruit, resin, pine. Slightly hazy, pale gold, small, creamy, white head. Medium bitter. More, bitter citrus fruits, bitter orange, ripe grapefruit, resin, bitter passion fruit, soft carbonation. Very nice IIPA, not on the league of either coast, but still, very decent. Bottle at The Old Fashioned, Madison, WI.
4.0Seriously, this is a near perfect IIPA. Not heavy or overly sweet. Perfectly balanced with thee pine and grapefruit flavors. Easy drinking for such a solid thumper. New Glarus is consistent in excellence.
3.612 oz. bottle purchased at the brewery. Poured deep golden, foamy off white head. Aroma was pine cleaner, pine, grapefruit, faint citrus. Taste was bitter, grapefruit rind, pine.
4.012 ounce bottle from Badger Spirits in Beloit, WI, sampled a bit below cellar temp from a New Glarus glass. Pale amber with a glowing, translucent sheen, thickish fairly substantial capping that recedes with stately, moderate speed...deep, sweet, honey’d orange and wet pine on the nose, lightly perfumy, not as strong or complex as some but quite inviting....on the tongue, a somewhat woody, dry character runs through the profile, with a very sweet and luscious (though not sticky) overlay featuring a moderate, consistent hop bitterness throughout but never totally dominating...thick and full, one is left with a juicy, warming, slightly bitter and lightly burnt finish. The mouthfeel on the whole is really quite something, containing burnt, sweet and bitter in a lovely balance, never fatiguing despite it’s thickness. For those who need to have their IIPAs insanely bitter - the Ruination model - this is not going to suffice; me, I can take both the sweeter, richer end of the spectrum and the rougher, more bitter types. This is a fine example of the former.
3.9Bottle. Deep clear golden amber color, white head with good retention and lacing. Nice aroma of mango, pineapple. Taste is juicy bitter grapefruit, edge of pine. Delicious.
3.6From a bottle at the DC tasting July 10, 2016 it is a clear light Amber color with no head. The aroma is citrus and the taste is strong bitter citrus taste that had a bitter finish
3.7From a bottle at the DC tasting July 10, 2016. Pours a clear copper with an off white head. Fruity nose. Flavors of caramel and pine and citrus. Bitter finish.
3.3Light citrus and lots of malt. Amber pour with great head and lacing. Light tangy finish. Bottle.
3.8Pours copper with a white head. Aroma is big citrus, pine, sweet malt. Taste is grapefruit, pineapple, mango, bitter pine... very good. Mouthfeel is oily, thick but not chewy. Delicious.
3.6Golden orange, clear, light head with lace. Aroma is citrus bitter bite, with some mild minty pine, some mineral and malts. Drinks with quite a bit of pine fairly malty, orange citrus. Pretty bitter. Has kind of a woody cherry taste to it from malts? maybe. Up there in strength, which can be messy, this is decent for a double. Its pretty refined, and not over the top like they don’t want to be, but often over the top makes for a pretty good ipa.
4.0Nice aroma of fresh pine, spicy citrus, and some fresh cut grass. Deep orange color with a light off white head. Rich sweet malt up front. Rich fresh caramel, quickly backed up backed up by a piney bitter bite, that intensifies on the finish. Some hints of orange and citrus as well. Bitterness really accelerates on the finish in a good way. Some alcohol burn as well...nice. Slightly slick mouth feel. Solid.
4.2Clear, golden pour with a frothy, white head. The aroma has nice, floral hops. It has a medium body with slightly oily texture and lively carbonation. The bittersweet taste has some mild fruity notes and a smooth finish. The high alcohol is well-hidden in the taste.
4.0Aroma is pine, grain, biscuit. Pours a dark golden, some nice white head. Taste is solid IPA - not West coast, not citra. Has a somewhat biscuity, graham flavor, but plenty of piney hops. Not overly resiny - body remains light and refreshing, yet full. Very drinkable for an imperial IPA.
3.7Orangish gold, slight haze and large fluffy head. Dank citrus aroma. Taste - big biscuity malt with an equally big hop presence. Notes of melon , citrus and pine resin. Long bitter finish. Very nice IIPA.
3.9Bottle shared at THT, thanks! Very hazy orange with a medium white head. Aroma of juicy fruits, peach, orange, citrus, grapefruit. Flavour is above light sweet and above moderate bitter. Light medium bodied with soft carbonation.
