In 1985 before The Wall fell, and just after the birth of our youngest daughter, Dan followed his Siren’s Call making the true Brewer’s pilgrimage to the birthplace of modern beer; Pilsen. Inspired by the noble brew he scribbled notes; triple decoction, 100% Czech Moravian malt, fermentation in unlined oak tanks, generous amounts of Saaz Hops, Krausening and a three month ice cold lager. An elegant masterpiece of complexity lost to change in the Czech Republic. We resurrect and invest, by brewing without compromise, that exact Old World recipe and this is the brew - Bohemian Lager.

3.5Bottle from Deyholla. Hazy golden pour not really any head. Aroma was honey grain, cheerios, and biscuit. Taste was semi sweet, popcorn, and dry. Nice fizzy carbonation. Overall pretty refreshing.
3.5Bottle thanks to Rando7. Pours clear apricot amber in glass. Nose is pine, citrus and spices. Taste is light pines, citrus, spices and caramel malts. Very smooth.
3.7Bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a very small white head. Aroma is grainy with some citrus notes and other fresh fruits. Flavor is doughy with a smooth bitterness and some spicy and citrusy hop characteristics. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated.

4.2Thanks Brian for sending this my way! 12 oz bottle poured into my pilsner glass.
A-Body is a uniformly hazy golden yellow hue with a mild to moderate fogginess. Pours with a nice soapy 1-2 finger white head that fades to 1/2 finger and has good retention from there. Lots of lacing sticks the whole way down the glass. Bubbles can be seen steadily rising to the top. A very beautiful beer.
S-Nose reminds me a lot of Voodoo PILZILLA. Its fairly mild and pilsner malt is probably the most prominent. There is a sugary sweetness underneath as well. The hop profile is there but pretty mild with some pine and earthy tones.
T- Upfront is a slightly sweet, sugary malt profile with and accent of pine hop flavor. The pine and earthy hop flavor come through and intensify for the finish but then fade immediately as a grainy sweetness and Euro lager flavor emerge. Beer is crisp and refreshing.
P-Medium to high tingly carbonation and a very smooth, oily, lightweight, drinkable lager body.
O- This is a very good brew and another great one by New Glarus. I’m sure the hop profile was a bit brighter when this was newer but I don’t know if the mouthfeel would be as smooth. One of the best lagers that I’ve had that isn’t from the state of PA.

3.812 oz. bottle; big thanks to deyholla for the trade; glowing orange with faint haze and eggy off-white head; bready malt with some stale lemons, husky grain and sugary sweetness; light fruit with stale hoppy spice and grassy notes; crisp, clean with mild sweetness in the flavors; thin, smooth with some grainy lemon peels; herbal honey sweetness and almost mineraly in the finish; dried fruits and bananas too; I’m digging it
3.4Bottle shared by ratman. Pours lightly hazy light gold with a medium, white, frothy head, low retention. Aroma is medium pilsner malt, light fruity esters, medium noble hops. Flavor is clean medium malt, medium hop bitterness and fruity esters. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation.
3.0Bottle. Pours a clear orangish gold with a white head. Aroma has notes of grain, bread and hay, overall quite malty. Flavor malty as well with similar notes a listed above with the bread being the most present.
3.4Bottle poured a clear golden amber with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of carmel, graininess, bread and light yeast. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a smooth fdinish. Flavors of bread, graininess, light carmel and light citrus with a smooth moderatly bitter finish.
3.412oz bottle, courtesy of scubarex. Thanks, Russ! Pours a slightly hazy, effervescent, golden-orange color; fluffy off-white head with good retention and persistent, fine-bubbled lacing. This beer seems like it should have all of the pieces in place: Bohemian Pils, awesome German-style brewery, Saaz and triple decoction... and yet. Some herbal / floral / noble bitterness in the aroma alongside some biscuity and dough malts at the core; the malt sweetness is light, but there’s definitely a sweetness here, as well as some dried fruits (raisins, esp.) and honey in the aroma, perhaps even some sprinklings of DMS; reasonably crisp and balanced, don’t get me wrong, but that higher maltiness is not what I’m looking for here, nor does it do much for the noble hop presentation. Medium body (surprisingly, lightly viscous); moderate carbonation and a slightly creamy character in the mouth; some light mineral / floral bitterness upfront, with a significant honey, sweet, even caramel-tinged maltiness at the core; I would even argue for some ester formation here: apple and bananas; by no means is this an unreasonable beer, but the dried fruits and honey do nothing for the Saaz, and the fruit character seems slightly overripe; I get a hint of sulfur as well; maybe this beer was significantly better when it came out (fresher hop character, etc.) but that certainly doesn’t account for the silly amounts of sweetness and distracting malt character at the core; call me an over-traditional turd, but this isn’t what I’m looking for in a Pilsener. Triple decoction, lots o’ Saaz, three-month lagering... something went awry along the way, sadly, terribly. Far too sweet and overripe. The finish is the finest part of this beer, as the honey and dried fruits part ways to a reasonably toasty, moderately dry core.
3.1(12oz bottle, courtesy of BMan1113VR) Pours a clear yellow body with a small white head. Aroma of toasted grain, grass, and florals. Flavor of grass, metallic, cereal, toasted grain, and earth with a crisp bitter finish.
3.6Pours clear golden with a medium white head. The aroma is sweeter than expected with apples and fresh harvested grain. Not much hop presence. The flavor is very strong. Not a ’clean pilsner’ but very flavorful. Apples, pears, toasted grains and well balanced by a nice hoppy finish. The body is surprisingly thick. A little spicy. Good lacing and head retention.
3.1Bottle. Semi-hazy amber pour. frickin’ malt bomb on the nose and taste. Decent.
3.5Bottle: Poured a golden color lager with a nice foamy head with limited retention and some light lacing. Aroma of floral hops is more dominating then what I had anticipated with some light sweet malt. Taste is easily drinkable with loads of floral hops with a dry aft3ratse and some nice malt that is lightly sweet – a touch of cardboard is noticeable but not too bad and totally understandable since this is not a fresh sample. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Well made if maybe a touch too heavy to drink loads of.
3.3Very yeasty nose to me...a lot of carbonation moving things around in the glass upon pour. Nice head but mostly disappears and leave a little sticking around the edges. This is just a more full-bodied average domestic lager to me.
3.6Bottle via rudolf - thanks, rudy! Nice pour - rich golden colour, slightly hazy, show white head, lovely. Mellow but pleasant aroma with herbal notes and a touch of fruit (peach, apricot, lemon). Flavour follows, with those some fruits coming through slightly, and a nice herbal/spicy character to the finish. Not a life-changer, just a solid, well-made lager.
3.612 oz bottle courtesy of my winter 2009 Secret Santa, served in my Free State anniversary Willebecher. I have been dying to try this one since it was originally announced. Pour is a lightly hazed golden with a one inch foamy white head. Head falls with layers of lacing. Aroma of cereal grain, dusty earthy malt and behind that a bit of spiciness from either the hops or yeast. Nice, clean, but understandably (with the age) subdued. Taste is the nose for the most part, clean cereal grains and grassy earthy malt followed by the dry crisp subdued spiciness. The integration of the flavors is quite good. The palate is the highlight of the beer, nice medium body, unfiltered with the perfect balance of carbonation and dry finish to make it really drinkable. As is, this was nice. I really should have gotten on the ball and tried this fresh. Thanks Santa, this was a great treat.
3.512 oz bottle acquired in trade with Soonah. Pours a clear gold with a 1/2" white head that recedes leaving rings of white lace. Aroma is grains and malt. Thin to medium palate with a crispness to it. Flavor was grains/grass with enough malt to balance it. A bit of spice and a touch of the hop to make it interesting. Nicely balanced brew.
1.3Bottle from Cavie. Hazy yellow pour with a spotty white head. Aroma is stale fruit and bad beer. Taste is bland, yet bitter. Grass and grains. Well then.
1.1Bottle from Cavie. Smells a small hint of spicy fruit and skunk. Lightly cloudy yellow color. Not a favorite.
2.7Bottle courtesy of bonk0076. Clear golden pour. Some spiced elements. Dry bitter flavor. Grainy notes. Meh too bitter of a finish. Bah.
3.2bottle thanks to bman1113vr. light gold with a white head. malts, light hops and grass aromas. decent palate with a malt heavy flavor and a grassy finish.
2.9bottle thanks to bman1113vr. poured yellow with a white head and lace. aroma was grains and citrus. flavor was grains, citrus, and chalk with a light body.
3.712 oz bottle. Lightly fogged bronze with a white head. Nose is sourdough bread and lemon candies. Medium body with a soft tang. Taste is lemon peel, vanilla and grass with a touch of orange toffee. Quite nice.
3.2bottle, thanks to bman1113vr, pours clear golden with an average white head, fruity, cherry aroma and flavors
3.4Bottle thanks to bman1113vr. Pours a light gold with white head. Aroma of a little bubble gum, some light grain, malt. Flavor is malt, faint sweet fruit esters, some grain.......Mouth feel is medium body with medium-high carbonation.....Overall, not bad at all.........
3.0Bottle thanks to bman1113vr. Pours a pale golden color with decent white soapy head. Notes of vegetables, honey, grains, and paper. Doesn’t really do anything for me. Bottle might have been past its prime.
2.8Bottle thanks to bman1113vr. Clear gold pour with a white head. Aroma is quite refreshing, with hops and grains. Flavor is grain, sweet. Bubbly mouthfeel.
