4.2 Perfectly balanced beer with slight hop taste. A good summer beer or saison you could drink multiple of.
3.4 I can not see how this got such a high rating... To me it doesn’t have a whole lot of flavor. I can taste the hops and it has a tangy spice, but that’s all i taste. It has a mild hoppy smell, and a nice caramel orange color. But it also appears to be unfiltered. It has tons of small solid chunks mixed throughout. they settled after a while. I cant give it a higher rating than a 3.4. I just wasn’t that impressed.
3.7 This is a good beer from New Holland. Definitely worth trying. It wont knock your socks off, but it wont disappoint either.
3.2 Tap: Hazy copper-ish, amber-ish body with a dark beige head, frothy & foamy atop the brew. Aroma contains light citric, leafy hops, mild hay & farm funk notes with a touch of damp cotton. Slightly grassy, lemon zest in the finish. Taste is very similar with more sharp orange, citrus, & pineapple zest out of the gate. Farmhouse character comes through with faint cotton & hay funk, slightly musty & damp. A touch of tartness near the finish, but far from sour. More grassy & leafy hops in the aftertaste. Like a mild, hopped up saison. Not bad.
3.5 From a bomber poured in a snifter. Aroma is pleasant spice but faint. Appearance ruddy red and cloudy. Initial flavor is thin and somewhat acidic and juicy. Finish is more musty and bitter. Not awful but I don’t really see much in the way of redeeming value in this brew. I was worried this would be overly-hopped like many New Holland beers are, and at least this wasn’t that. The hop level is appropriate for the style. Lower ABV than I’d expect for something like this.
3.8 On tap at the Michigan Fall Beer Fest. A nice bit of funkiness. Quite refreshing with a nice tartness.
3.1 Draught at Sugar Maple, Milwaukee 23/viii/13. Belgian farmhouse funk & IPA hop freshness do mix, but not when the farmyard funk feels injected like a chemical adjunct. Dry, yeast astringent. Bit unnecessary. I prefer to see farmyard/IPA crossovers approached from other side of the equasion (De la Senne, Blaugies/Hill Farmstead coop), where quality US hops can be imported and injected into fully farmhouse yeasts given enough old world time.
3.8 (bottle - 22 oz) Slightly hazy gold pour with a thin white head. Yeasty and spicy aroma with a very light funk quality to it. Some very light hops in both the nose and the flavor at the start. The malts take over and leave a slightly spicy aftertaste. More spice than hops. Unusual and good.
3.5 Shared bomber, pour to shaker. Slightly hazy, dark gold; medium head. Heavy lace. The brewer’s claim of "spicy, tart farmhouse funk" describes it well. Hoppy like a mild IPA.
3.7 Great beer. Rich golden color, nice head. Faint nose. Perfect balance of farmhouse yeast and hops. Goes great with anything, and in bottle, seems fantastically cheap wherever I find it.
3.7 Orange body white head nice lacing. Hoppy yeasty aroma. Taste is a bit resinous hoppy bitter citrus bread yeast quite nice. Thanks cards04.
3.6 Pours a nice peach colour with lacing. Aromas of peach and lemon. Nice saison type flavours. Lemon, some funk, bitter hops. Really nice.
4.4 Poured from a a cold bottle. Clear, carbonated light amber color, large off-white frothy head. Bold spice and cinnamon aroma. Medium body slick texture with average carbonation, moderate sweetness with a spicy, tangy wild yeast flavor with a mild bitter finish..
4.2 Great clean aroma. Enormous head that quickly begins looking like soap suds. Slightly cloudy but nice golden color. Not bitter, but tart, easy going down. Right amount of carbonation. If this is considered an IPA, it’s my favorite... probably because it doesn’t taste like an IPA.
4.1 Pours a pale, cloudy orange. Aroma is that grassy peppery saison with some citrus in there. Taste is wonderful. New Holland did the right thing here, didn’t overpower us with hops, giving the beer very solid hop flavor and bitterness, but not too much. This raises the typical bland and mild saison (in my experience) to a new level. Excellent brew.
3.5 Not a bad spring or summer brew (depending on how hot your summers are...). Light & crisp citrus zest with a nice floral overtone that lasts while complimenting the bitters in the aftertaste.
3.4 Citrus hops nose. Big lemon zest taste with belguim beer funk. Good hoppiness with long bitter finish
3.4 Pours yellow-orange with a white head. Aroma of yeast, spice, and lemon. Belgian yeast flavor with spice, and citrus. Very nice.
3.9 22 oz. bottle. Light orange color, with a medium, beige head and solid lacing. The aroma is big resinous and citrusy hops, lemon zest, salt, and some funk. Musty and chalky sweetness, and mild, buttery hop bitterness that lingers through the finish. Medium body, acidic, silky, and surprisingly smooth. Overall, this is a nicely funky, hoppy, easy-drinking beer.
3.3 Rated on 6-12-2012 @ 800 Degrees (Fort Wayne, IN). This draft beer pours a small ivory head that was mostly lasting, transparent body, spotty amounts of lacing, very little carbonation, and a golden hue. The Aromas consist of malt, wheat, funky yeast, hops, fruity, and spicy. This beer taste sweet, bitter, malty, yeasty, spicy, and pine hops. The Palate is tingly and semi-dry. This beer is light-medium bodied. In conclusion, this beer is quaffable, a "hophead" beer and is worth trying.
3.7 Bomber poured into a shaker. Pours a slightlt cloudy burnt orange with full thick head. Aroma is very fruity. Loads of tropical and citrus fruits with a bunch of Belgian yeast and a little bubblegum and spice at the end. Taste is light bitter. Belgian yeast and herbal and citrus hops dominate. Medium bodied with a slick texture. Soft carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. Not my favorite but very enjoyable.
3.8 Draft. Lemon malt and tropical hops aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet orange/lemon, yeast, malt and lightly bitter grass flavor. Very nice beer.
3.5 Draft. Buttery caramel, funky Belgian yeast, and a tropical fruity hops aroma. Slightly hazed straw gold with a large white head. Flavor practically identical to the aroma - Caramel malt, yeast, and tropical fruity hops. Body on the light side of medium, soft carbonation.
3.3 Vintage 2011 8/01/2011: New Holland Farmhouse Hatter (Farmhouse I.P.A. - Belgian-style Pale Ale)... Aroma: Really nice tropical fruits (papaya, pineapple, and banana) paired with a subtle spice character. Appearance: Cloudy orange-gold color with waves of carbonation and a ballooning heaf of dense, rocky, ivory-colored head; great lacing. Flavor: Grapefruit and citrus peel hop flavor right up front along with some herby leaf hops that taste a bit like basil and spearmint; moderate bitterness overall; biscuit malt blends seemlessly with the hoppiness; quite floral, notes of perfume, a bit soapy toward the backside; really spicy (a touch peppery) and fairly dry (cedar?) through the finish with more oily-soapy-perfume coming out. Palate: Medium-bodied; nicely caronbated; but not over carbonated; fairly smooth. Overall: All of the flavors are pretty well-balalnced, but I am pretty much done with the non-traditional Belgian-fusion styles (e.g. Pale Ale, IPA, Stout, etc.); the overly spicy Belgian yeast character just doesn’t work for me in this beer; I’m not disappointed because my expectations were already reduced based on the style; skip this and stick with the NEW HOLLAND RYE HATTER! 1 ping 6 fl. oz. bottle from Party Town in Florence, KY. Rating #185 for this beer.
4.0 New Holland farmhouse is good.. I love Belgian inspired ales, and this one is good. You mastered the recipe. I’m not going to make out with it... it’s all good though. No hard feelings . You are good in my book. Enough said!
4.1 22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/14/2013. Pours lightly hazy orange amber color with a nice 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of orange zest, lemon zest, orange rind, grapefruit, pear, apple, clove, banana, pepper, caramel, floral, grass, light pine, light bubblegum, and floral/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of orange zest, grapefruit, orange rind, lemon zest, pear, apple, clove, banana, pepper, caramel, floral, grass, light bubblegum, light pine, and floral/yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, clove, banana, pepper, caramel, floral, grass, light pine, bubblegum, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of hop, yeast ester, and malt flavors; with a great sweetness/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian IPA. All around great balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
3.8 Pours a caramel amber color. Nose is a nice farmhouse funk similar to Monkey King. Palate is a nice mix of funk and big Mad Hatter hops. Kinda hard to describe other than another delicious New Holland beer!
3.6 Tap at Barcade: Hazy orange with a dense white head. Nice Belgian yeast aroma. Some bubblegum phenols and mild spice notes (coriander?) Silky body. Minerally and dry flavor. Dry biscuity malt back withsome coriander and white pepper. Soft bubble gum phenols throughout. Long dry minerally finish. A nice Belgian ale.
3.5 on draft and poured the same as the others a copperish orange color with white head. not sure about this one though as a Belgian ale. had a nice hoppy aroma and some malts. really didn’t get a lot of a Belgian or farmhouse effect. flavor wise was a good beer and easy to drink. just not sure about the style
3.7 On tap. Little on the nose. Really great balance between IPA and Belgian. Bitter finish. Good.
