New Holland Hopivore

New Holland Hopivore

Michigan grown hops are the story in this seasonal harvest ale. Hopivore is wet-hopped with hops added to the brew just hours after harvest, creating rare, fresh flavors.

2.2 Bottle: Rich copper (dark for an IPA?) with a beige head that lasts for a short period of time; minimal lacing on the glass. Aroma of timid citrus & mango up front, but it’s quickly overrun by a big, brash, aggressive hop tone. Resin, bitter leaves, sharp pine needles, ash. Taste has a mild peppercorn spice to it with lots of aggressive hop leaves & pine. Grassy, leafy, & lots of that pepper from start to finish. Malt noticeable in the aftertaste, lingering caramel & toasty malt with a hint of sweetness. Warmth brings out a slightly unpleasant rubbing alcohol flavor in the back-end. Wasn’t a big fan of this at all. Very messy, unrefined. Plenty of better wet hopped options out there.
2.5 Has a bit of a funky taste that lingers way to long. Descent aroma but not one of their better offerings.
2.7 From bottle. Malty, caramel, medicinal. A bit oxidized, perhaps? Light hop aroma. Dark coppery amber clear with lacing creamy beige head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Moderately sweet with caramel, biscuit, honey. Mild bitterness and kind of oxidized. Dull finish with light nutty bitter after.
3.4 Pours a barely translucent amber with a nice cream-white head that leaves generous lacing. Hoppy and malty aroma has a hint of fruit. Bold flavor has malty, hoppy and yeasty notes; finish is hoppy but not bitter. Finish is woody and hoppy, while mouthfeel adds hop bitter notes. A toast to the winter holidays.
3.4 From a bottle poured a copper color with a small amount of head. Stong hoppy flavor with a lasting finish.
3.4 From an old rating note. Not sure where I tried, but likely Proof. Orange pour. Sweet caramel aroma. Tastes are herbal, floral, moderately bitter. - 6.8
3.6 Tap pours an amber copper with eggshell frothy foam. Earthy aroma kinda light, . The flavor starts nice and rich with the sweet toffee from the grains working well with the herbal fruity hops. Drying earthy green grass, light orange citrus and touch of herb last in the finish with a toasted bread grainy feel. Pretty enjoyable and full of flavor for under 6%.
3.4 Decent pale ale. Light and crisp hop bitterness. Decent malt backbone, with a creamy mouthfeel. Nothing crazy, but very drinkable.
3.2 Sample at 1808 American Bistro. Pours a dark orange-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of pine, hops and malt. Light to medium body with flavors of grassy hops, toasted malt and pine. The finish is mildly bitter with a short grassy hops aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.
2.9 Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent golden orange with thin off-white head. Smells of dough, grain, and pale malt with very mild hop notes. Average on the palate. An underhopped, underwhelming example of the style.
3.9 Had on tap in a pint glass. Pours a clear medium amber with not much in the way of a head or lacing. Aroma is quite fruity with some pine notes thrown in. There is a bit of candy sweetness up front in the flavor with more citrus in there behind. Bitterness is on the moderate side with a slightly sticky mouthfeel and finish. Overall, a pretty good beer but it comes up a bit short when compared to some other harvest ales out there. Not really one to seek out.
3.3 Tap. Pour is clear amber, thin white head. Aroma is lemon, sweet grass, lots of herbal. Taste is herbal, grassy, nice full bitterness, fresh pine.
2.6 Aroma pine and grapefruit. .. not much to the taste.. and not much here at all.. not even close to some of the other area harvest ales
2.8 It poured a clear copper color with a small white head. The aroma was floral and fairly one dimensional. The taste was similar with a medium bitter finish and a small hoppy aftertaste. Not sure this is what I expected.
3.8 Pours murky brown with an off-white head. Smells kinda malty, kinda hoppy. Taste is bitter with a pleasant malt backbone. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, New Holland Hopivore finishes with a mild spruce bitterness.
2.9 Draft - pours pale amber with white head and great lacing. Nose is pine, paint thinner and resin. Grapefruit. Light with an unpleasant aftertaste. Not that hoppy for 55 IBUs. Weak.
2.8 Draft. Cloudy deep amber color, medium white head. Aroma of damp and earthy hops. Taste is bitter and watery.
2.9 The Hopivore pours a deep amber orange with a tan head that fizzles out somewhat quickly but leaves fair lacing. The aroma is caramel, molasses and floral hops. The flavor is caramel and molasses up front but the floral hops quickly take over and leave a bitter flavor well into the aftertaste. I love a good IPA but the bitterness is a bit much in the aftertaste. Overall this is a decent beer.
2.4 Bold bitterness upfront without lingering flavor. Bready. It’s ok but not worth $10/4-pk.
2.4 Smells good, looks nice, be the taste is lacking. Some kind of weird caramel stale hop taste. Almost smells on the verge of a scotch, but is just not very good.
3.3 Smells like dank cheap weed. Seems like it has potential to be a nice IPA then just doesn’t make it. Pretty much what I expected from the brewery.
3.2 Meh. This was a very blah beer. Not much going on at all. Could do without trying this one again.
3.1 bottle. amber with small head. mild malt body. hops are grassy and piney. pretty average.
3.3 Bottle. Pours an amber color with white head. Fresh cut grass, resiny, bitter aromas. Grassy, earthy, bitter, light caramel flavors. Meh, alright.
3.3 Dark and dreamy amber pour with thin beige head. Great to look at. Nose is dank hop and evergreen copse. Mouthful of grass and sweet resin up front, followed by a dry and bitter kicker. Was hoping for stickier, more profound hop notes. Some lingering malt sweetness. Full bodied and smooth. Has some potential, just not quite on the money.
3.1 Bottle into a glass. pours deep amber, slight white head. Grassy, slightly bubblegum aroma. Taste is grass, malt, caramel, cotton candy. Meh.
3.5 Decent IPA, has a great color and mouthfeel but falls somewhat short in the aroma and taste departments. Was really expecting more piney and citrusy notes with the claims of extra fresh hops being used in this brew. Would not buy again in bottle but I would like to try it on tap and taste the difference.
3.5 Pours amber with a thin wispy tan well maintained head. Notes of sweet, mild hop resin. Medium bodied and resinous with lush carbonation.
3.3 An orange amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, biscuit malt with green hops, floral, light dough notes. In mouth, a nice caramel with grassy floral hops, green and fresh, nice. On tap at Iron Monkey, Dec. 31 2012.
3.7 From bottle. Pours deep amber in color. Aroma was dark fruit, earthy, grassy and piney hops. Taste followed but drank like an Imperial. Good malt balance. Was looking for more in your face hop! May be bottle age?
