New Holland Imperial Hatter

New Holland Imperial Hatter

A robust renovation of the India Pale Ale. Assertive dry-hoppying provides an aromatic telltale nose, indicative of the bitter symphony to follow. Bold hop character with lively grapefruit and citrus notes.

2.2 Bottle. A- Caramel, malty. A- Orange color, clear liquid, white head. T- Pine, caramel, malty, bitter. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, abrasive finish. O- For as much caramel malt base as this seemed to have it sure had a bitter and aggressive body. Not my thing.
3.5 Pours a copper amber color. Lots of orange and some syrup on the nose. Clean start with plenty of sweetness that quickly turns to a thicker syrupy/boozy body. Ending is very nice given the abv and increasing intensity in the middle.
4.1 Pours a two finger white head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Hazy amber color. Good carbonation and light-medium bodied. Sweet pine hop nose and flavor is caramel first then light pine hops. Higher ABV is hidden. Decent DIPA. $3.29 for a 12oz bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, Ma.
3.2 How: Bottle. Where: Systembolaget. Appearance: Amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma: Caramel, spices, fruit, citrus. Body: Medium body, low to medium carbonation. Flavour: Hops, citrus, grass, caramel, pine.
3.2 Bottle from Systembolaget. Hazy dark orange beer with a decent offwhite head. Hoppy pine flavor, caramel, toffee, citrus, bready, some peach. Grassy hop flavor, citrus, peach, bready, some warming alcohol. A bit unclean.
3.0 Hazy orange brown. The aroma is pretty nice, orange and grapefruit with faint pine in the background. Medium body, carbonation is prominent and alcohol less so. Flavor is I think overly sweet and sticky. There’s hops for sure but lacking in crispness and the bitterness is overwhelmed by the syrupy mouthfeel and flavors. Not bad exactly but I was not a big fan.
3.5 There are some great IPA’s in the Hatter series. Imperial Hatter is no exception but it’s probably my least favorite of the bunch so far. I like that it’s bold: big notes of booze and bitterness. Aroma is grassy, citrusy and piney. That all carries through into the flavor. Feel is bone dry, crisp, and warm (thanks to the alcohol). My only complaint is that the alcohol and herbal hops create a slightly off-putting medicinal note when the brew warms. It’s a minor thing, but I wasn’t a fan. Still, I continue to be impressed by this series.
3.5 Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Very hazy orange with a small off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of orange, grapefruit, pine, mango, caramel and guava. Taste of pine, grapefruit, tropical fruit, alcohol and caramel. Very bitter. Medium/full body and medium/high carbonization. Certainly a big IPA, but not an exceptional one.
2.8 Not bad but not great. Nice bitterness, some fruitiness like grapefruit. Mostly generic hoppyness nothing that sticks out.
I smaken tar humlen något mer plats.
4.2 Bottle purchased at Elevated in South Minneapolis. Poured into Moeder Lambic glass from Brussels. Slight haze running through a golden orange like colored IPA. Nose is definitely assertive. Tropical fruit and citrus notes. Taste follows along with the tropical fruit theme with a boozy presence looming throughout the sip. Nice bitterness balanced with a healthy dose of sugary sweetness. Pine and resin are felt. This one is a borderline double IPA and that’s probably why I’m such a big fan. A tip of my hat to you New Holland. This one’s good.
3.9 Pours hazy orange jam with a medium white head. Aromas of peach, grapefruit, resin, apricot. Taste is peach, apricot, resin, pine, grapefruit. Mouthfeel is slightly oily and resinous.
3.7 Tap at Black Squirrel. Pours clear orange with lots of head and lots of lacing. Nose is juicy with big pine and grapefruit. Flavours of grapefruit, pine, alcohol and very juicy. Taste is medium bitter with light sweet. Full body with lively carbonation and some alcohol burn to the finish.
3.8 Clear straw, tall head, sparse lace. Floral nose. Medium-full body, moderate flavor, hot mouthfeel, avg length. Sweet & bitter, fresh in acidity. Hoppy and malty, complex flavor, floral, bakers' yeast, Delicious, easy drinking.
3.2 Ok hazed golden color with a white head that soon vanish into a layer. A bit on the sweet side this one. The bitterness does not match completely. Grapefruit hoppy, a bit tropical, some resin and some pine. Also some alcohol coming up after a while. Medium + body and an average to soft carbonation. Oily texture. Not a dipa I will recommend. Still quite drinkable. [Bottle from Systembolaget in Sweden]
3.3 Golden color, tan head. Resin nose, caramel, tobacco, hint of grapefruit. Sweet taste, caramel, resin, fruity, moderate bitterness, hint of alcohol, citrus notes. Medium to full body, soft carbonation.
Relativt kraftig beska. Trött humle som aldrig riktigt lyfter men ändå ok.
3.6 Pours hazy amber with a rich off-White head. A resin aroma with substantial alcohol. Full-bodied with a grapefruit bitter finish.
3.4 355ml bottle. Hazy amber body with a low white head. Tropical fruits and pine, followed by quite a boozyness.
3.7 Flaska.
3.5 Bottle from Systembolaget. White creamy head. Copper body. Smells very hoppy, bit of citrus and lemongrass. Tastes hoppy, wheat, yeast, sugar, citrus, pineapple.
4.2 Poured from the bottle of the 4-pack, sweet, hoppy and strong, with a bitter aftertaste. 10% is hardly noticeable because I’m wasted and didn’t see it coming.
4.0 2015 edititon, 10% ABV. Poured from bottle, slightly hazy amber with medium low off white head. Aroma full of yoummy notes, marmalade, caramel, cereals, some pine and some citrus. Taste is clearly bitter but nor overly so, medium body and a long rewading finish. Lovely palette of tastes, fruit, citrus, resin and some honey.
3.4 Pilsnerfärgad grumlig med vit skum. Tropisk frukt i doft och smak. Lite jästig o spritig
3.4 Flaska från SB. Dimmigt orangebrun med vitt skum. Fruktig och kryddig doft. Söt och fruktig, lite karamell och även lite spritig.
2.9 Bottled from Systembolaget Hazy deep golden with a white head. Piney toffee in the aroma. A bit alcoholic with chlorine. Pine-needles in the flavour. Sweet, almost sugary.
