New Holland Red Tulip

New Holland Red Tulip

Ah, spring. It's the season that breathes new life into our beautiful landscape and puts a hop in our step. It has also inspired artists of all mediums for centuries.

One such artist was Lida Rogers, a schoolteacher in our hometown more than 75 years ago. Caught up in spring fever, Lida proposed planting tulips throughout the city in celebration of Holland's heritage. Her inspiration bloomed into a living work of art: Tulip Time. Today, Tulip Time is a world-class festival showcasing the Holland community as six million tulips blossom into an incredible homage to spring. Red Tulip Ale is a salute to the tulip, spring, and of course our dear Lida. A smooth and malty red ale, Red Tulip evokes spring's renewing spirit.

3.3 From bottle. Part of March Dayton Beertasting event. Pours amber with little head. Aroma and tastes are of caramel malt and toffee. Not my favorite NH beer.
4.1 Smooth easy to drink a lot of. Sweet earthy and floral flavor. Finishes with roasted coffee and slightly hoppy aftertaste. Pronounced stage beer. Flavors compliment each other well.
3.3 Bottle. Pours an almost brown amber with a little bit of a head that is gone before I get back upstairs from the fridge. Aromas are dull... caramel malt - that’’s it. Flavor is pretty malt heavy, too. Caramel and maybe some fruit around the edges. Pretty good, but pretty plain.
2.6 pours red amber with a slight thin layer of beige head, it has caramel aroma with a hint of tea. it is malty, caramelly, and full bodied.
3.3 Pours a dark amber, with a nice head that dies down way too quick. Nice lacing left though. Malty aroma is nice. Great mouthfeel, and though i get hints of cherry, the sweetness lends a bit of a chocolate hint. As it warmed, I got the aroma too!
3.7 This is pretty good. Dark copper and a little earthy haziness to it. Thin white head that leaves nice lace on the glass. Slight nose of cherries and sweet malt. Perfectly hopped and kind of smooth going down. I also taste some black cherries, but didn’t notice it until I read some of the posts below me…but then again, that stuff always happens to me. Very good ale.
3.2 Deep red body with a fine white head. Very light aroma. I can discern some malt, caramel, and a touch of cherry (?). Medium mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. There’s an instant where the brew feels and tastes a bit like black cherry soda. Otherwise, malty sweetness with a touch of caramel. Finishes bright and clean. A pretty good brew.
2.7 Poured from the bottle into a double-walled pint glass. Pour produced a hazy red-brown body topped by a large off-white head of foam, which dissipated quickly, leaving moderate lacing. Not much nose, with hints of caramel and malt. Crisp carbonation, with a medium mouthfeel and a touch of sweetness. Not a very complex palate, but balanced making it easily drinkable. with a slight (oh so slight) touch of cherry.
3.0 very attractive bright red appearance and large white head. not much else going on though. very little malt component with maybe a hint of crystal and a very dry finish with not a large hop component. very boring beer, poor
3.7 Bottle. Clear reddish amber with a tan head. Aroma of wood, smoke. Flavor is lively balance of malt and hops. A very good beer.
3.0 Bottle at Art’s. Pours a solid amber with a nice, off-white head. An aroma of cherry, nut, and sweet malt greets the olfactory just before the tongue is dashed with weak hops and watered down malt. Average mouthfeel for an average watery beer.
3.2 THOUGHTS: Nice malty beer, but nothing really special. This was my first New Holland. From this one I’m looking forward to trying more. There was quality in this one, but i hope there is a little originality in some of the others. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark reddish amber with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy cookie, nuttiness and caramel malt and very light hops. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet and acidic, and lightly bitter; while the finish was moderate to heavily sweet, lightly bitter and slightly sour with an average duration. It was very malty, but watery. There was caramel and nutty malts, a little tea and ever so slight hops. The medium body was a little syrupy with fizzy carbonation and a very light astringent finish.
3.1 12 oz. bottle - Poured a deep red color With small head. Aroma is light, hardly any. Taste is malty and quite nice, a very drinkable brew.
2.5 12 oz. brown bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a deep cherry amber color, with not much head at all. Aromas are of watered down malts, sulfur, which is pretty strange for a supposed ale, not much else. Flavors are sulfury yeast, thin, watered down malts, weak hops. Thin body & mouthfeel. Not the best amber I ever had, that much is sure.
3.5 12oz bottle. Pours reddish copper in color with tan head. Aroma sweet and nutty. Taste of roasted malt and nutty with dry finish.
3.9 Pours a nice red amber. There is a slight floral aroma with the hint of fruit. It is smooth with just a hint of sweetness.
3.6 12oz bottle. Thick, murky brown-amber color. Full bodied and malty. This is a nice Amber, though I’m no fanatic of the style. Very deep and enjoyable, and not suffering a lot of the typical off tastes all too often found in Amber Ales.
3.5 Dark amber pour with fair tan head. Dark fruity and toasted aroma. Nutty malty flavor. Medium body with moderate low carbonation. Pretty good all around.
3.1 The color was a deep caramel/brown. The head was very thin, off-white, and fizzy. The aroma was wet dog, sour, and some spice. Th eflavor was slightly bland with little character, and a kind of must. Th epalate was aerage. The finish was clean.
3.3 draft. amber color. aroma was very good; i sensed hops and sweet malt. flavor was good but was lacking in some way. would try again
2.8 The color is quite attractive and is a clear amber hue. At first sip you get a blast of red fruit. As it warms you get more into the chewy bread and grain. Some caramel malt. All told this is a rather underwhelming as far as body, complexity, and taste go.
3.3 12oz bottle pours a rich, ruby, copper color that’s completely transparent and has a thin, creamy slightly beige head. Looks very striking and inviting. Nose is mild, but doughy, sugary like cookies, a bit spicy, and a touch nutty. Flavor is sweet and sugary, some biscuit and crackers, butterscotch, nuts and toffee. Finish has a sweetness that envelops the palate in a very nice manner. I was very surprised how delicious and drinkable this brew was. This would be a wonderful session beer and something many palates would enjoy.
3.0 the reddish hue and amber quality with malty after-taste add to the quality of this brew. has a metallic aftertaste, which is not expected,
3.3 Bottle. Pours red, slightly brown, with a large and creamy tan head. Looks wonderful! Toasted malts, hops, and slight floral in the nose. Tastes nutty, VERY slightly metallic, and has a creamy mouthfeel. This beer improves as it warms.
3.0 Pretty reddish amber with offwhite head. Aromas of raspberries, cherries, toasted grain, and some herbal tea-like hops in the background-- really nice! Flavor is malt-forward toasty grain with some hops bitterness underneath and a mild sour twang throughout. Watery on the palate-- this thing just falls apart after the initial inviting aromas. An easy drinker, but a bit of a disappointment as I can imagine it being so much more....
3.1 Rosy read with fluffy head. A bit hop in a floral way. Swee and malty. Nice but a bit flat. Could use a little more punch. Finishes with a nuty flavor.
3.2 Pour is ruby red and lightly hazed with a thin tan head...smell is lightly toasty and sweet...taste is sweet and the mouthfeel is then....a light grainy and faintly bitter character come out in the finish...
3.5 Bottle from Foodery. Nice red-orange amber. Decent head. Caramel malt and cola aroma. Perhaps a hint of spice. Taste is also malt heavy and sweet with a touch of grassy hops. Thin to medium bodied but smooth and enjoyable.
3.1 This beer is very rich, and full of sweet malts. It pours a deep amber colour with a nice big head, the lacing on the glass is immediate and staggered. The immediate taste is sweet and creamy and that bread taste is detectable.
3.7 Pours a rustic brown into Sam Adams pint glass. Roasted aroma with some black cherry. Malty flavor, roasted nuts, a slight detection of cherry. This ale really opens up when it is warmer. Finishes slightly dry
