New Holland The Poet

New Holland The Poet

This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you’ll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

3.9 12floz bottle, BOD: 10.16.2017, $1.75 unit cost, nonic glass. Pours with a one finger head atop a dark body with hues of brown that show in the light. Smooth aroma invokes roasted and to a lesser extent sweet qualities. Dark chocolate is the dominant flavor, but there is some subtle dark fruit sweetness too (charcoal when taken in bigger gulps). Of course there is the given coffee component. Body is medium and creamy feeling. I self recommend to me, I do.
3.6 Very nice. Pours opaque, dark coffee brown with large puffy tan head. Dark roasted aroma, coffee. Taste is rich lightly sweet, dark roasted toast, coffee, nutty notes, with a slightly acidic/ashy/hoppy finish. Full bodied palate. Overall excellent oatmeal stout.
3.6 Pour dark with two finger, light tan head. Aroma is molasses, roast and light coffee. Taste is brown sugar, moving to roast and light coffee. Finish is light coffee and roast. A good stout.
4.0 Creamy, Neutral balanced, Deep kapuchino, Sweet, Cool carbonated
4.3 On tap at the brewpub. Long time ago. This was the first and the best one of the night. The type of sweet stout I enjoy. I have little recollections on details. Shameless tickmark here for the hoarding.
3.9 On tap. Yummy stout, very nicely balanced. Dark, toasty and just a bit of sweet.
3.8 Bottle from Meijers, pours creamy brown. Nose is full chocolate, coffee, dried fruit. Palate is creamy chocolate, red grapes, coffee, hoppy finish. Great sweet stout! Nicely balanced.
3.5 Aroma of coffee. Dark Black Color. Starts off a touch sweet, with coffee, and chocolate. Has a bitter finish, but a but bit too bitter. The mouthful is watery. Its an OK sweet stout but not great.
3.9 Aromatic, pretty, & tasty this is an excellent stout! Pours black w/ a tan head & solid lacing. The aroma has some nice chocolate notes as well as a hint of roasted malt. The flavor is quite similar. It has a lovely soft mouthfeel as advertised. The chocolate carries throughout. Just a very good example of the style overall!
2.8 12oz (Educators on Tap)- Nice white head with some lacing. Good dark color but can still see through it. Great vanilla and nutty notes and then roasty malt flavor. A bit cloying tasting.
3.4 Darkbrown, tall, short-lived head. Full body, flavorful, smooth, not silky, highly carbonated, lively mouthfeel despite low ABV, average length. Moderately bittersweet, just right acidity, predominantly bitter finish. Strong flavor of un-malted roasted grains, dark roast coffee. Enjoyable but not high on my list.
3.2 Nice drinkable beer. Not overwhelming in any way. Some roast flavor with a little chocolate at the end. Epic it is not.
4.0 Bottle from Colonial Spirits. Pours a solid dark brown with faint garnet at the edges and a frothy creamy tan head that persists. Roasted coffee milk on the nose with faint chocolate dark fruit and earth. Creamed coffee and light dried fruit wrapped in a creamy bubbly mouthfeel. Pretty damn tasty.
3.7 Bottle; pours nearly black with a thin brown head; aroma of chocolate; roast malt, and a hint of coffee; taste is sweet with chocolate, malt, and coffee; dry finish with just a hint of bitterness; simple, yet good
3.0 6oz sample at Liquor Barn. Aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Taste is a nice balance of sweet with some bitterness.
3.5 Aromas of roasted coffee with a touch of chocolate. Just a slight touch of spice - cinnamon or nutmeg. Color is dark brown, almost black. Sparse tan head. Taste is slightly sweet, moderately bitter. Body is a little things for a stout; carbonation average; average length finish. Overall a reasonably good beer, though just a bit thin and simple.
3.1 This is a fairly ordinary oatmeal stout, lacking in complexity, thin bodied, weak and the black malt ashiness is overdone. Great label design attracted me to this one, and I will say, for a sweet stout it is by no means cloyingly sweet. Roasty, burnt toasty, somewhat smooth and pretty easy drinking... but I think I’ll stick with Samuel Smith and others for this style.
4.3 At Whole Foods. Pours dark dark brown with no head. Aroma of toasted grain. Initial taste of caramelized toasted mild cocoa. Very smooth and mild and creamy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
2.8 Draft. Black body with a small brown head. The aroma is slightly alcoholic with some smoked whisky notes. The taste is vanilla and toasted malts. Nice kick at the end.
3.7 At the risk of sounding like I plagiarized from the brewery’s own description, I must say this classic oatmeal stout is a clean and exceptionally smooth example of the style, featuring a fresh and flavorful roasted malt taste, with roasted hints of coffee and milk chocolate. Pours a pleasant translucent coffee-brown color with a nice creamy and foamy head. Truly a silky smooth mouthfeel with a simple but superior roasted malt flavor profile.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty caramel aroma. Roasted malty caramel and chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty caramel bitter chocolate finish.
3.5 Bottle. Very Dark Brown in colour. Beige head. Malty; roasty malts, oaty, dark chocolate, coffee, hint of caramel. Hoppy; lightly hopped. Bitter-sweet roast malty chocolate and coffee throughout. Decent. (2014-12-30)
3.9 A little bit on the sweet side but still pretty darn good. A simple sweet stout flavor of chocolate mostly. Plus it tastes like victory, as I won this for Denver beating Oakland.
3.5 Bottle from New Beer Distributors, Manhattan, New York, USA. A black coloured pour with a small beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate aroma. Tastes similar, roasty, malty, chocolate, hint of coffee. Decent.
4.4 12 Oz bottle. Pours black with a big, brown head that dissipates quickly, leaving strong, slow legging. Tons of chocolate, coffee and roasty malt with some cherry on the nose. Lots of chocolate flavor, quite sweet with lingering burnt malt bitterness and alcohol at the end. Thick, creamy mouthfeel with cloying sugars. Overall, really decent. Hits all the senses well.
3.4 Bottled.at next bar Black color brown head. Chocolate, roasted malt and woody nice light body
3.8 Loved the richness of this beer. I did take there suggestion and let it warm up some which totally made a difference in its taste!
3.7 Bottle into stout glass. Looks like it should. Pleasing aroma of chocolate oak. Similar taste. Smooth mouthfeel. Roasty tasty stout.
3.2 Wonderful sort of. Smooth and soft with bite. Milky, bitterness throughout, roasted almonds, brown sugar, light coffee, licorice. The hops are sizzly. The bitterness feels good but in the end I prefer my oatmeals much quieter. Great aftertaste.
3.7 Bottle @ Oliver Twist. Very dark brown with a small brown head. Malty and fruity tones. Malt, coffee, licorice and hops. Medium body with a nice bitter/ malty finish.
