3.4 Cloudy yellow body with a thin white head. Aroma is yeast and citrus with a hint of grass. The palate works well for a wheat beer. Thin, a bit chalky, and light carbonation. There is some malty sweetness up front that quickly turns bitter (but not in a bad way). The citrus flavors are more like lemon and lime zest. Clean, albeit a bit soapy finish. A good wheat beer.
2.8 12oz bottle, seems to be really fresh... when I opened it there was a definite fresh-cut grass smell to it. Pours a nice golden-hay color with a minimal head. Decent lacing for such a light beer. Tastes of grass, straw, lemon and a floral background. There is a nice, crisp bitterness to it. It is definitely not a "knock your socks off" type of beer, but it is pretty damn good on a hot day. No problem downing a sixer of this... solo.
3.1 THOUGHTS: A nice surprise after not being overly impressed by the other New Hollands I’ve tried. But I did really have to do a lot of shaking and twirling to get the yeast off the bottom of the bottle. Prior to that I was wondering if it was even a white. If not for the bitterness it would be great. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a murky to muddy, medium yellow. It was sorta milky. Almost the color of banana or lemon pudding. It had a small, white head that just about fully lasted, but left virtually no lacing. The aroma was light doughy yeast and moderate other yeast, wheat and a little spice. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter, and moderately acidic; while the finish was moderately acidic and moderate to heavily bitter with an average duration. There was yeast, wheat, slight lemon then metallic finish seemingly from the yeast not the hops. The light to medium body was watery then dry with lightly fizzy carbonation and metallic and light to moderate astringent finish.
3.8 12oz bottle. Cloudy golden-orange color. Light citrus and ocean aroma. The flavor is crisp, with a citrus zest to it. It finishes wheaty and not unlike a saison. Sandy, pungent wheat taste mouthfeel works quite well. Very complex and respectable beer, definitely a unique offering.
3.2 12 oz bottle. Pours cloudy golden yellow with small white head. Aroma of lemon zest, donuts, and a very distant spicy hint. Flavor is same as aroma... donut-like maltiness, zest of lemons and oranges, some dull spices, and some darker fruits in the background. Pretty simple, but decent.
3.4 bottle - Pours hazy yellow with a two finger white head. It smells of yeast and a touch of citrus. The flavor is a nice balance of wheat and hops with a touch of citrus. The hops makes this beer stand out a bit from others of the style. It’s not great, but it’s a pretty good, refreshing brew.
3.1 12oz bottle. Pours a hazy lemonade color with good carbonation and a good white head. Aroma is light and sweet, with yeast and lemony citrus dominating a few hints of earth, spices, and malt. Taste is generally light, with a lot of yeast and grain giving way to a mild bitter-like finish of hops. Nothing too complex, but a nice shandy-like brew for the summertime.
2.9 A sunny, golden yellow wheat beer with a certain cloudiness to it. Aroma is especially light, redolent of lemons and clove. Flavor is, while perhaps a bit underwhelming, still crisp and refreshing. Slightly yeasty and bitter at the finish, but resolves quickly on the palate. Would be a nice accompaniment to grilled chicken breast and corn salsa.
3.1 Bottle from Foodery, Philly. Cloudy straw yellow color with huge head full of dry/dusty smelling yeast. High pitched lemon/citrusy aroma, taste, and finish. One dimensional.
3.0 Pours a hazy lemonade yellow with good white head. Pleasant aroma of yeast and lemons. Flavor is a little muddled. Wheaty and cloying on the palate. A hint of hop bittering in the finish.
3.3 Pours a hazy gold with a small head. Aroma is sweet citrus. Nice flavor, sweet. Solid wit.
2.3 Bottle. Anemic at best. Little flavor, yet more bitter than most wits. Which is why this should probably be classified as an American wheat, not that that matters because it is not a very good American wheat either. Hazy yellow body with a small white head. The light aroma was grainy with the slightest hint of orange. No spice at all. The flavor was lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture. Bitter finish. Lively carbonation. The flavors just don’t work. Somewhere along the way, the wheels fell off this beer.
3.4 12 oz. bottle on 7/06/08, courtesy of Steve E. Aroma - Light honey, spice, lemon in the aroma, anticipating a summer refresher. Appearance - Hazy yellow, medium head and good lace of small, fine bubbles. Flavor - Light fruity sweetness that receives sufficient balance from a soft, citrus based bitterness. Palate - Light body and a moderately lively carbonation that helps clean the palate and adds to a welcome dry finish. Overall - Refreshing, good balance, not loaded up with flavor and aroma, but this isn’t the style for that. I thought it was better than its ratings suggest.
2.4 12oz. Poured hazy yellow/orange with a starkly white head. I’m getting almost nothing in the nose, some slight banana and clove. Body is similar, mostly flavorless some copper pipe towards the finish. Very light, highly carbonated, easy drinking... that’s about all I have to say about this wit.
2.2 Pours a light rusty yellow with some bubbles and a thin airy white head. Sweet candy wheat aroma, pretty earthy. Soft hints of honey in the flavor, earthy, dull, wheat, touch of banana. Not much character at all. Kind of a nasty lager like aftertaste. Hard to call this a Belgian White... maybe the most boring wheat ever.
3.1 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy yellow-orange color, white head. Aroma is sweet with wheat, yeast, and spice. Flavor is citrus with wheat. Pretty well balanced taste, though nothing spectacular. Nice beer to consume on a warm day.
2.9 Bottle. Slightly hazed gold pour. Fast disappearing white head. Aroma starts off with wheat and yeast notes and some spice. Floral hops begin to come through as does light citrus. Taste is very wheat and yeast laden mixed with strong lemony tartness, spices and soft sweet malts. Much more American Wheat than wit to me. Body is light-medium with soft carbonation. The carbonation seems to have all but disappeared. The finish is more strong wheat and yeast notes, lemon, and soft malt with spice. After stirring the yeast and pouring it int he glass, the body became almost solid gold. Very unique looking.
3.0 12oz bottle in weizen glass. Has a yellow orange seltzer look to with with small white head disappearing quickly. Sweet malty aroma of yeast and some orange/citrus. Not much flavor, there is a acidic quality to it and light grapefruit flavors. Refreshing but not up to par.
3.2 Bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Pours straw yellow with a medium head. Faint aroma is malty with a citrus bite. Taste of yeast, wheat, grapefruit.
3.0 12 oz bottle. Cloudy yellow gold with a white head. Wheaty nose, lemon and light orange. I think there is a clove hiding in there, too, but it’s a whiff if any. Orange flavor, a bit of zesty bite late. Long, bitter citrus zest finish. Not much of a wit, but not a bad drinker, either. Body is a bit watery.
3.2 Sample sizer. Pale, wheat colored -- as a wheat beer should be. Doesn’t have the esters I expect from the aroma of a wheat beer -- it has a little bit of caramel in it. It’s beer. Not very complex, and doesn’t really capitalize on the wheat at all. It has malt to it, and some lemon there on warming, but it generally isn’t anything I found impressive.
3.4 pour is gold and cloudy. Fresh fruit flavor and aroma, but not really a pronounced banana flavor. Slight hoppy finish. Good palate cleanser after a devil dancer
2.8 This medium bodied brew pours a cloudy golden colour. Strong, noticeable wheat character and fresh fruit in the aroma. Suprisingly, a little undercarbonated in my opinion, pours with virtually no head. Mouthfeel is light, creamy and semi-sweet.
3.0 Bottle; poured a wit-yellow with smallish white head. Faint aroma of wheat, must and citrus. Not much spice in the aroma. Better flavor than aroma. Wheat and malt, with a more pronounced spice presence. Long after taste. Palate became detracting after a few sips. Probably a bit below average for a style that I like.
3.1 Cloudy yellow with foamy large white head. Aroma of yeast, wheat and a touch of orange. Kind of spicy and a shade sour, tastes of lemon & orange. Chalky taste, lively carb feel and peppery finish.
3.0 I actually didn’t realize this was a Belgian Style wit until I saw it here. As a regular wheat it seems fine, but it doesn’t seem to have the spicy notes I would usually look for. I know, I know rating to style and all that, but stil... At the Raleigh WBF.
2.0 12oz bottle. pours hazy light golden with foamy white head. aroma a bit infected and hints of citrus. flavor has noticible infection, citrus, chewy wheat quality sitting pretty heavy for a wit. lemony sour finish. this is a bad wit.
2.3 This is a subtle, low grade for NH. Little head with missing aroma. Appearance is witty unlike its name. Flavor is citrus bitter that has a quick first note and a lasting second note. Nothing intense. Drinkable, palatable, but not memorable.
3.0 probably my least favorite new holland beer. kind of plain, nothing real special. very refreshing though.
2.1 Zoomer was very boring to me. Not much flavor or aroma, but the appearance of color was decent. Overall a very bland and average beer.
