3.1 550ml Bottle (BB: 30/09/22); Look: clear dark amber/brown with an off-white foam. Sow moving fine carbonation. Aroma: sweet malt, citrus, floral Body: thin Taste: malty, slightly watery, citrus Overall: not what it was. Okay.
3.3 0.33 l can from a Systembolaget, Eskilstuna. Had this one in Milano in 2005, made no notes. Clear brown, small off-white head. Mild nutty, malty, toasty and caramely aroma. Moderate caramely, sweet, toffee, toasty and lightly roasty flavour. Not sweet. Slightly bland, slightly thin, but not bad. Light finish.
3.4 Bevuta alla spina al Pub Inverness. Buona birra rossa non troppo alcolica. Nulla da segnalare.
2.9 Drank many of these back in the day during the UK years, but have seemingly never rated. Brown with a frothy to creamy head. Distinctive aroma full of old leather, with a hint of smoke and a mild, nutty undertone. Taste is mildly, toasted bitter the whole way through. Light bodied, moderate carbonation, watery texture. Apart from the aroma, on the whole fairly bland.
2.8 Predictably, it's brown. Full tan head. Aroma of malt, dried fruit, new shoes. Taste is sweet and malty, nuts, caramel. Undemanding and uncomplicated, tending to the bland.
2.9 Bottle, thanks to breandan's roommates. Nose is faint citrus, orange. Palate is smooth grain, orange. Citrucy finish. Ok.
3.9 I suppose as I'm 50% Geordie it can explain why I like this beer. Although as its no longer brewed in Newcastle it's not Newcastle brown ale, or at least not the 'Bomber' my Grandad enjoyed! However it does have a nutty brown ale taste although the head is non existent even straight after pouring. I always take it from a bottle that is well chilled. Hopefully my Geordie cousins will forgive me.
3.7 Aroma of nuts, dates, malt, Brown colour with big head Taste is caramel, malt, prunes Medium carbonation with smooth mouthfeel Tasted at klubben
3.6 Pours dark chesnut colour with not much of a head. Body is medium and bit creamy with nice soft carbonation. Aroma of malt and caramel and taste is similar. Well balanced sweet finish to it.
5.0 The best
3.1 Bottle at Black Prince, New Haw. The only tick available. Aroma is sweet and malty, cheap own brand cola sweetness. Light chestnut. Thin creamy translucent white head. Light-medium sour berries. A vague hint of bitterness in there. Peripheral sweetness. Underlying malts. Medium bodied. Slick. Average carbonation. A basic sweet and sour bitter. But not as boring as some macro Ales.
2.6 (550ml draft, Berlin. 23 June 2021) AROMA: grainy, leaning towards rye, soft malt, touch smokey, overall a bit light APPEARANCE: light to medium cherry/mahogany color, oily film residual TASTE: tad sweet and sour, a bit non descript, background of veggie and dairy, some very light smoke and wood/nut PALATE: lightish for an ale, easy bite, smooth, minimal bitterness and followthru. OVERALL: average. Nothing worth noting other than simplicity and easiness.
3.1 Poured from 500ml can at 4.7% abv. Aroma: Biscuity malt, chocolate notes, caramel, slight subdued hop, hazelnut. Appearance: Pours medium brown, slight ruby tinge when held to the light, with medium sized fluffy off-white head. Slight to moderate carbonation. Taste: Malty, moderately sweet, mild bitterness, dark bread, some fruit, mild hop which isn't the focus of the beer. Mouthfeel: Medium body with soft, foamy carbonation. Slightly oily texture, not unappealing. Soft foam. Overall: Decent ale. It's a beer focused on malty, biscuity flavour more than hops, and it works well in that style. Goes well with meat pie or similar.
2.9 500ml bottle. Never drunk this before and probably won't again... clear chestnut malty smooth.
3.0 Old rating from 2009 - 500ml bottle, pours brown with a thin head. Aromas & tastes of caramel, toffee, nuts & malt. Moderate body. Light bitter finish
2.4 Old
3.6 Trevlig öl
4.5 God, rund, fin färg. Bara god helt enkelt.
1.5 Slappe hap. Niet vies. Laat toch maar in Newcastle. Dit was een van mijn eerste Engelse bieren. Geen onverdeeld genoegen.
2.1 Bottle from the local. It actually pours okay and the head is nice, but it dissipates fast. Aroma is definitely roasted malts, no question, caramel (from the glucose?) and coffee. Absolutely no hop character but that's not really what you're looking for in a brown. Hang on, now the aroma's gone. On the tongue it's quite thin, the carbonation is like it's come out of a cask but none of the depth. Goes down slightly oily. Flavour is a straightforward malt loaf profile, not bad, like own-brand Soreen. I used to think I liked Newcastle Brown but after reading the label and learning it's not even brewed near the Tyne (let alone Gateshead!) my perceptions have turned. It's not that learning that this beer is made by Heineken made it taste worse; that would be prejudice. It's that now I'm inclined to judge the beer without rose-tinted beer goggles. I still think it's a fine drink for e.g. a concert (where I had it last, in the before time). But as British brews go: piss poor.
4.0 Nice beer
3.5 "The beer is dark brown in colour with a thin creamy head. It tastes sweet with hints of caramel and some slight bitterness towards the end. Roasty creamy feel as the taste fades away." - beersoftheworldproject.wordpress.com Date: 29/11/2014 Bought at: Backstage in Stavanger, Norway
3.0 Burk från systembolaget. Bärnstensfärgad öl med litet beiget skum. Ok dock godare på branäs topp. Maltig med toner av bröd och karamell. Torr avslutning.
2.3 Clear brown with a white head, light malt caramel aroma, light and watery, sweet malt caramel. Had this years ago but can't mind it being as bad as this
4.4 H'awa the dog
3.0 Clear brown color and a nice white head. Sweet, toffee, caramel and some bready flavors.
3.4 From Tesco BS
4.5 Alla spina se servita in carboazoto, birra eccezionale, dissetante, leggera di ottimo gusto, non eccessivamente persistente, ma molto soddisfacente
1.9 Bottle from Systembolaget. Clear brownish/amber with a medium head. Sweet with malt, caramel, some butter and hints of medicine. Thin and boring. Last time I drank this was in the 20th century, I understand why.
3.5 Smuk kastanjefarvet øl med lidt mørk skum. Duft af karamel og fin let bitter smag, men også sød smag.
