Newcastle Werewolf

Newcastle Werewolf

"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

2.3 0,33L bottle (from Stockmann?!). Pours clear brown-copper with light tan head. The head stays for a second. Aroma is sweetness, caramel, wet socks. Flavor is sweet, nutty, caramel, toffee, some metallic notes. Body is watery. Overall: rather bad.
3.1 Its sweeter, maltier, hoppier and fizzier than Newcastle Brown which is my quaffable go to. I appreciate the effort. Mix half w/ Arrogant Bastard for a Bastard Werewolf!!! The hops cut the sweet. Its not bad w/ Bar b que! Cmon brothers lighten up and relish the amazing brew world we live in tday! Now if light beers were just made illegal...
2.6 Well, t’aint "blood red" as the label states, but it’s a deep amber in body. The "head" is an off-white film. The aroma is toffee and caramel and light brown sugar. The taste is sweetness, toffee and caramel. Unremitting. Too much for me to session at any time. With a name like "Werewolf," it should do more than gnaw away at my canines. I wrote the above before seeing that this is classified at an ESB on the site. I’m flabbergasted.
3.7 A lot of plum/raisin and dark chocolate in the aroma, with sweetness that makes it candy-like. Similar flavor, with bitterness that balances the sweetness. Subtle pepper. Kind of a maraschino cherry-like finish.
3.0 16 Oz tap. Pours clear brown with a white head. Make aromas dominate: caramel and brown sugar. Medium sweetness with cereal grain, nut, and some prune. Finishes with long, herby hop linger. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel and average carbonation. Overall, good malt, but pretty unidimensional.
2.7 Reddish brown, Sherry aroma. Light and easy drinking, crystal clear on the palate. Funky bitterness that I can't get past. Notes of cream soda aftertaste.
3.0 Flaska i LA. Dimmigt brun med vitt skum. Doft som en vanlig newcastle men med inslag av choklad och hallon. Smaken är vattnig med litw rostad malt. Lite bättre än originalet.
2.7 Smells just like Newcastle Nut Brown Ale mixed with coffee. Tastes just like Newcastle Nut Brown Ale mixed with cherries. Okay beer. Very middling beer - not good and not bad.
2.1 Bottle pour is tobacco brown with quick foam with little head. I wasn?t expecting a raspberry aroma. Some liquorice. Very watery body. Tastes flavored and has no real umpf.
0.9 Amber brew with no head. Smelled of roasted malts and seemed inviting but the taste ruined it all. Did have a bit of roasted flavor but also tasted a bit like a cola. Even went down about like a cola, one that comes in a 2 litre bottle and was opened about 3 days ago. Yep, think i nailed it right there. It started as a plastic bottled cola and was opened, put into beer bottles, and shipped to the USA. Watered down garbage that doesn’t even live up to being worthy of such a creature as a werewolf. Should have named it Rabid Chuwahwah.
2.9 Pours a brown color with a very light tan head. Aroma is a bit nutty with some malt notes. Flavor matches with the addition of some more roasted flavors and a bit of spice. Seemed just like a darker, slightly more spiced version of the brown ale.
2.2 Tasted on 10/27/14 from a capped 12oz bottle purchased at the grocery store. Pours clear bright amber with an average beige head that slowly recedes to thin lace and an average collar. The nose is lightly nutty bread with some caramel, mostly malt focused, with a light hint of spicy hops. The flavor falls a bit short of the classic ESB nose, with a bit more caramel malt, and no real discernible hops. The body is light with average, fizzy carbonation, and a short malty finish.
3.0 Tap, brown pour, tan head, nose is caramel, taste is caramel, nutty, okay brown
2.3 On tap, poured a clear brown hue w/ a medium foamy white head. Mild sweet aroma. Initial flavor is bold sweet w/ a light bitter finish. Tastes are roasted marshmallows and sugar. Light bodied and watery mouthfeel.
3.0 I had this beer on draft at the Tilted Kilt in Kenosha, Wi. This beer has a nice, clear deep copper color and the aroma has a slight berry scent mixed in with toasted barely. The taste is very malty with strong malt and malt tones throughout, mixed in with hints of raisons and a very perceivable burnt toast character. There is a strong bittering character to the beer, but this bitterness is more associated with the astringent bitterness you get from roasted malts than from hops. Overall this is a decent beer that lacks anything to make it stand out from comparable beers in this style.
2.5 330 ml bottle. BB 31/07. At the Oak Barrel, Helsinki Vantaa Airport. Clear copper brown colour with a tiny off-white head. Nuts, wood, caramel malt and some mild bitterness in the aroma. The flavour is mild bitterness, nutty dryness and some caramel maltiness. Watery.
3.1 This was surprisingly good. Initial pour I got a whiff of berry. Once in the glass the smell was pretty muted. Light brown with reddish tint. A white head that contrasted drastically with the body but quickly disappeared with a thin lacing. There is a berry presence followed by a malty back and floral hops (but not bitter at all). It is a little watery. I got this on sale and for that price I would get it again. This is a light drinking beer, and not usually my style - but I quite enjoyed it.
1.8 Bottle. Tastes like burnt coffee, burnt toast, burnt malt, some alcohol. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like burntness. Not good.
2.9 Bottle. Poured a brownish color with a smaller sized off white head. Roast, some chocolate, caramel, and some earthiness.
2.7 Garnet in color with fluffy head and lacing. Caramel and toffee in the aroma with soft carbonation and slightly floral hops.
3.8 This is a very good beer with a redish color and white foam head. The aroma and appearance were also rated highly.
2.8 Backlog rating on 9-14-2012 at Cap n’ Cork Covington Plaza, Fort Wayne, IN, beer tasting. This bottled beer has a small tan head that is mostly lasting, golden transparent body, very little fast rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt and grainy. The flavor is caramel malt and a light amount of hops. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. This beer is rather unimpressive to me as it lacks a lot of beer characteristics for the style. This beer did not leave me wanting to have again.
3.0 Bottle. Red brown. Tall white head. Fruity, prune aroma. Slightly watery. Metallic. Not bad,a good alternative.
2.7 Bottle to glass at club w. aroma of bready carmel stuff, redish clear pour with small white head, taste is watery fruit, with bitter finish, meh
2.4 Disappointing watery brew with an artificial fruitiness and an unpleasant tart finish. More effort spent on marketing than brewing.
2.7 "Very much like the regular Newcastle brown except for the slight rye presence and a touch more hops (the regular has virtually none). I like the additions. Not great still, but better."
3.5 Nice dark amber color with a small short lasting white head. Hints of sweet fruit get attacked by a bitter lingering hop flavor. Supplemented by caramel, and roasted malt. I like it.
3.8 Alright, I purchased this fine auburn-hued brew from a Krogers in the Cincinnati suburb of Mount Healthy, Ohio - I found Newcastle Werewolf to be a delightful example of a rye beer with some fruitiness balancing the brews strong body and hoppy finish. I like it!
3.0 Aroma is very rich with warm, toasty malt. Flavor follws suit but is not near as rich. Nice red body. Very drinkable.
2.6 Pours deep red with big yellow head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee and some cardboard. Slick palate with low carbonation. Aftertaste is dry, floral, sweet, roasted and lingering cardboard. Overall: Okay.
