3.2 Amber color pour with thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toasted malt, and earthiness. Toffee sweetness with some toasted malt, and bread. Decent beer.
2.2 A little bit bitter for my taste, doesn't really go away throughout the bottle. Nice Amber color, pours with a subtle head. It's okay, not super great.
2.2 Bottle to English pint glass. Pours clear amber, One finger quick white head, slight retention, no lacing. Aroma of caramel, light herb. Taste of sweet caramel, light earthy bitter. Light bodied, lightly carbonated, watery mouth feel. Finishes mostly sweet with notes of grass, more caramel and salt. Not very good.
3.2 (bottle) bright, clear amber colour with a medium tall light brown head; aroma starts with stewed fruit, then roast; balanced flavour with a long medium bitter finish; nice
3.1 Bottle at home. Pours a clear amber with two fingers of head. Aroma is toffee caramel and cardboard. Flavor is malty and caramel with slight bitterness. Nice beer.
3.0 Draft. Not bad, typical amber ale. Caramel malt notes with a touch of pine and citrus hops. On the earthy side. Easy, simple.
2.8 On tap at the brewery. Clear amber pour with a white head. Malty aromas. Bread and malty highlights. A bit simplistic and somewhat bland. Average body and mouthfeel.
2.9 All the time, all formats, all over the place... This time poured from a can. Pours a dark amber, thin white head. Aroma is caramel, bready malt, faint earth hop. Flavor is heavy malt, sweet caramel, earth hop on back end. Medium body, semi sweet, malt bomb.. Slight hop on finish. A staple to the Newport scene.
3.8 Hazy copper with white head. Sweet floral aroma. Taste is sweet malt and little hops. Kind of a muted fruit bowl as a drink. Enjoyable.
3.2 12oz bottle from Georgio’s, Billerica, MA. A hazy golden amber pour with scummy cream head; malty aroma; fruity malt taste; with a sweet biscuity finish. Very drinkable.
3.0 Great amber color. It’s drinkable and not too dark but nothing special about the flavor.
2.6 Bottle. Stale barley malt aroma. Hazy amber with a small off-white head. Cardboard barley malt, and light bitter hop flavor. Light body, moderate carbonation. Freshest before March indicated on the bottle, which explains the poor flavor.
3.2 Bottle to glass. A solid hoppiness, but I'm disappointed that the bitterness isn't balanced by a broader flavor profile.
2.3 12/31/2013. From bottle. Amber color with a white head. Malty aromas with caramel and light fruit. Malt and caramel flavors and not much else going on.
2.2 Rating #807 - December 5, 2013 - Beer 5 from the Craft BeerAdvent Calendar. Bottle, 5.2%. Clear amber pour with a decent white foam, little retention. Aroma is oversteeped tea and sharp cheddar. Taste is surprising given the aroma, just a bland tasting, much too grainy amber ale with an unpleasant mouthfeel and little else of value. Worst of the calendar so far by a good margin.
2.4 Bottle, day 5 of Craft Beer Advent Calendar 2013. Medium amber, clear, average white head. Sweet buttery caramel, almost oaky in character, a touch of amaretto, fruity nuances. Strange, not that great-- the worst of the bunch thus far.
2.0 The beer poured nicely but was a little cloudy which was unexpected for an Amber Ale. It smelled okay with a yeasty bread smell and some sweetness. The taste was atrocious however with a very bad oily aftertaste. I wasn’t sure if I was going to finish this beer or not. Would not recommend and it paints a bad light of the brewery.
2.1 12oz brown bottle from Craft Beer Advent Calendar ’13. Hazed honey gold colour, good sized beige foam on top. Nose has caramel malt, raw malt extract nose, brown sugar. Taste has caramel, light toasted notes, cardboard Light finish, a bit of malt. Watery and thin body. Not great, this really reminds me of a bad homebrew.
3.0 Advent calendar day 5. Amber pour with little head. Odd bitterness. Vague fruitiness right on the edge of the palate. Not too much else there. Decent though.
2.6 CBAC day 5.Pours a hazy medium copper with her a nice frothy off white head that leaves tons of lace. Aroma of caramel, wet cardboard, grassy hops, earth and light fruity esters. Taste is a bit of a mess, caramel and then live grassy, earthy hops with some musky cardboard and a really unpleasant astringent bitterness. Good base here but the balance really leaves something to be desired here.
1.9 BeerAdvent 2013 Day Five. Pours hazy amber, no head. Nose is floral muted citrus and caramel. Flavour is paper, caramel, earthy/floral hops, more paper mixed with the bitterness and chlorophenols on the finish. Bad batch, obviously. Not atrocious, though, as the florals on the nose are nice. It’s just that this style of beer can’t mask the papery and medicinal qualities. At least I’m not alone this time. :P
2.0 Initial aroma was of solvent like, almost paint thinner. Weak grassy hop aroma in the background, not much by way of any caramel or toastiness from the Munich malt until it warmed quite substantially. Flavour was very minimal, and bland. Nothing stood out. Was just a lac lustre beer that I would avoid again.
2.4 Craft beer advent calendar day 5! Pours a semi-clear orangey copper with a small white head that leaves some lace. Aroma is caramel, some off aromas(having a hard time identifying but kinda cardboard like), grassy, earthy, and mild fruity esters. Taste is cardboard, caramel, grainy, earthy, light citrus, and stale grass. Something is just off with this beer.
2.5 Pours an oddly... Not amber? Aroma is light citrusy. Taste is initially some citrus, but then some uhh vegetables? Some mild funkiness. huh? Quite sweet, a bit of a mess.
1.0 Craft Beer Advent Calendar #5! Not sure about this one... The other reviews have been accurate. The citrus and burnt flavours don?t go too well together on this one and the bitterness is a bit overwhelming. Not what I?d want to drink at the pub if I visited the coast where the brewery is! ... Just came back to lower the rating a few days later because I have been thinking about how unenjoyable it was for days after. 2 was being generous at the time!
1.9 Haven’t rated in forever but I’m working my way through the 2013 beer advent calendar and so far I’m seriously underwhelmed. Not one of the first 5 beers has rated more than a 50 on RB. This beer pours a slightly murky orange amber with thin lace of cream head. Aroma is faintly hoppy but overwhelmed by a bizarre Irish stew note. Worrying. Taste is slightly citrusy but with a weird vegetal character akin to root vegetables (dare I say yams?). Finish is slightly sweet with bitterness consumed by odd funkiness. Generally a mess. So far this advent calendar is the proverbial lump of coal wrapped in a ribbon. Things better improve or you guys are the grinches who stole beer Christmas.
2.5 Advent Day 5. Hazy golden amber. Lasting head. Aroma has some citrus. Flavour is citrus, malt and a strong taste like they almost lost the batch.
2.0 Amber pour with white head. Aroma is caramel, sweet, toasted malts. Flavour has more sweet and biscuity malts with more sweetness than I prefer. Slight corn taste through the finish.
2.8 Super malty amber ale. Not very hoppy and nicely bitter. Smells malty and pour a dark red.
2.2 Bottle: Pours slightly hazy, dark amber with a short, rough, beige head. Caramel aroma. Taste is malty....caramel...with a slightly vegetal bitter... Leafy. Watery. Not that good..
