Nils Oscar Coffee Stout

Nils Oscar Coffee Stout

2011 version, Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza, 6.4%

2008 version, Rwanda Gatsinga, 6.0%

3.4 Bottle @ Home. Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate, little oak. Flavor is malty, cocoa, dark chocolate, little dark fruits, little vegetables. Medium body, soft carbonation, rather dry finish. 050813
3.5 Bottle @ barbecue tasting. Clear very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, coffee and roasted malt. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and roasted moderate bitter finish. 030813
3.7 Bottle @ Beder Grillsmagning. Nice head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are rich coffee, vegetables, grass, malt and hops.
3.5 Bottle. Very dark brown with small beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and caramel. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel, medium sweet, hop, little liquorice and medium bitter.
3.6 Smooth coffee and dark caramel aroma. Taste of smoked ham, coffee, and bitter dark caramel. Well-balanced bitterness.
3.7 Black with some brown hints, very thin beige head. Milk chocolate, coffee, roasty, some slight acidic tones.
4.4 Wyrazny smak kawy. mocno kofeinowe piwo bo rozpala i podnosi cisnienie a to za sprawa kawy jaka zastosowano w tym szwedzkim stoucie. piwo gozkie palone z mnustwem gozkosci kawowej. gesta ciecz z niewielka piana, czarna i bez przeswitu barwa. Polecam kawoszą
4.1 330ml bottle. poured almost black with no head. aroma was extremely strong of coffee, brown sugar and molasses. smelt great. taste...really full mouth feel and again, does what it says on the bottle with a really strong taste of coffee. mild after taste. minimal carbonation. very nice.
3.5 Bottle at home, from Beers Of Europe, 16/06/13. 6.4% ABV. Mid black with a good sized coffee tan head that stays for the party. Nose is light roast, decent blast of coffee beans, sugars, dark malt. Taste comprises roast malt, coffee, mineral notes, dark toffee, espresso. Medium bodied but a little on the watery side, carbonation carries a little too much spritz for my liking. Decent enough coffee stout - nice espresso roast vein running throughout.
3.6 Bottle 2011, rated from backlog. Aroma and taste is smooth, roasted, coffee with good balance. Nice
3.7 Bottle:   Pours black, thin sudsy off-white head, sparce lacing.   Sweet cold coffee on the nose, a bit mocha latte like.   Smells really good actually.   Very sweet smokey coffee like flavors up front.   Much better than I was thinking.   Low hop bitterness.   A bit of chocolate on the backside.   Coffee, smoke, and dark chocolate is what this one is made of.   All good stuff.   Body and mouthfeel are average, so not too heavy.   Finishes too quick tho.   Wished this one went on longer, but for what it is its very tasty.
3.6 Really classy label design. Nice colour and foamy tan head. Aroma is mostly dark malt and treacle. Smooth, dark chocolate and coffee flavour, vanilla, slight sweetness. Coffee is subtle but all the better for it. Nice bitter but smooth espresso finish. Perhaps slightly thin but this is a lovely beer.
3.8 Bottle, march 1st 2013. Black body, light brown head. Aroma of burned malt, coffee, light chocolate. Taste lives up to the aroma with roasted malt and coffee, adding a good licorice and red berries taste. Nice dry bitterness, roasty yet refreshing finish. Yet another quite very beer from nils Oscar.
3.9 Bottle from systembolaget. Delicious aroma of coffee and chocolate. Lightly carbonated. much the same flavors as the aroma. Little thin body for my taste, but certainly a very good beer
3.6 Bottle. Dark brown pour with reddish elements. Small white head. Pretty moderate palate. Nice coffee aroma - very rich. Nice coffee and mild sweet chocolate flavor.
3.6 Bottle 2008 Version (Rwandan Coffee). This is a smooth and mellow coffee stout. Not too bitter or too roasted. The coffee is a bit subtle for my taste - could use a bit more omph.
4.1 A light coffee beer is what I like about this beer. The scent is not excessive. The taste is good, however when I do not drink coffee. But of course good. The aftertaste is left long and great coffee taste. A really good beer when I still do not like coffee.
3.4 Bottle. Black colour with an off-white head. Strong coffee aroma with some notes of chocolate and roasted malt. Flavour is coffee, some sweet coffee and a bit of chocolate.
2.8 Dik koffie, karton en zolder aroma. Smaak is wat waterig, doch ook cafe frappe en licht peperig. Nasmaak iets te licht.
4.0 Bottle @ home from trade with SaintMatty, shared with Dutchdrebus. Very nice dark red glow coming through an almost black colored beer with a medium sized fairly quickly disappearing light brown head that leaves a slight lacing. Smell malts, some alcohol, roastyness. Taste malts, lightly alcohol, lightly coffee, roastyness and bitter. Nice!
3.5 Bottle @ Benzai. Quite dark brown to black, but with some ruby redness shining through, decent light brown head. Smells slightly roasty, some coffee, but also some red fruits and a hint of sour. Tastes coffee, roasty and chocolate, but also quite a lot of iron, which isn’t something i’m very happy about. Thin to medium body, soft carbo.
3.2 33cl bottle. Pours just about opaque black with some red glints around the edge of the glass. The nose has coffee and chocolate with a hint of smokiness. The taste has coffee and chocolate again. The palate is medium to full bodied with a big creamy texture and a finish that is not too cloying for this style. Overall, a well made example, though my general opinion is that the coffee always overpowers anything else in this style.
3.7 Smells amazing of coffee, a nice taste of coffee to, a great ballance between bitter, sweet and coffee. It would be twize as good if it was a bit thicker.
3.3 Poured into a perfect pint. 2.0 A: Black color. Couldn’t really muster a head, though this isn’t completely flat. 4.0 S: Really earthy, minerally stout, which I happen to be a big fan of. Coffee is the most notable aroma, but just barely. Supple roast, mountain stream water earthiness, mineral. Hints of dark chocolate and caramel. Fairly dry overall, but balanced and quite bold. 4.5 T: Again lots of earthiness in this. Mineral, forest stream, clay. Big coffee, light dark chocolate, a bit of caramel. Again dry, but not distractingly so. 2.0 M: This is closer to flat than my initial impression. Lighter medium body. Just a hint of carbonation. Smooth, but not ideal. 3.5 D: I believe this would be a damn good beer if it had the requisite carbonation. Not a bad one without it. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-03-2012 02:13:56
3.5 bottle, really hard and strong coffee aroma, just like from the real beans, unfortunately dont understand whats on the label :), black colur, brown head, clear, light sweetness, medium dry bitterness with sweet ending again, medium body, slick feel, creamy, very good beer and excelent expirience for me
2.9 Bottled. Poured very dark in colour, almost black with a small head. Coffee, some wood and more raw coffee in aroma. Flavour is similar with some coffee mostly. Felt a bit raw.
