Nimbus Brown Ale

Nimbus Brown Ale

A dark brown ale deriving maltiness from two types of American crystal malts, yet not overly heavy in body. Rounded with a nutty flavor from chocolate malt and a hint of black patent malt. Finished with aromatics from Czech Saaz hops.

2.9 Opaque dark brown with an out-of-control head that stays at four whipped cream fingers for 15 minutes; swirls of lace. If this is a brown ale, it is on illegal steroids. Heavy, filling, roasted malt with overtones of coffee and chocolate, bitter coffee finish.....isn’t that a description of a stout, or at least a porter? Fair, not great.
3.3 Arizona tick. So a brown ale is just a lighter roasted brew. Took me about 13 years of drinking them to come to this "epiphany." Pours a light clearish brown with small white head. Scent is watered down coffee. Roasty and slightly sweet flavor. Light-Medium mouthfeel with just a touch of carbonation. Bottle - Ale Yeah! - Decatur, GA
3.1 At the brewery bistro on draft dark amber with an ecru head aroma of of chocolate tastes of chocolate and a bitter finish
3.1 On draft at the Nimbus Bistro in Tucson AZ. Pours a dark amber with an ecru head. Nutty aroma. Some subtle coffee notes. Slight bitter finish.
2.4 12 fl oz / 355mL bottle into a pint glass. Served cold. Aroma: Kind of a mild chocolate and toffee. Appearance: Dark ruby/brown translucent body with a light tan, creamy head. Very nice lacing. Taste: Not nutty. I’m not sure how to describe it. It’s kind of like soy sauce, or hot sauce-y. It’s better than it sounds, but it’s not very good. Palate: Pretty light bodied. Abrupt finish. Overall: Kind of disappointing. I was looking forward to a nice, nutty brown ale. I tried to keep an open mind, but I didn’t care for this one too much.
3.2 Pours medium brown with a modest head and ok lacing. Aromas of toast, slightly burned butter biscuits and caramel. Flavors are similar, and include brown sugar and a barely perceptible hops bitterness that wasn’t on the nose. Slightly thin, watery mouthfeel, medium carbonation, and a pleasant sweetness in the finish.
3.4 12oz bottle. Small head fades to a collar. Surprisingly dark, almost black. Aroma is sweet and malty, definitely bready. Taste reminds me of a czech dark beer, kind of similar to a german dunkel as well. It must be the czech hops. Simple, pretty toasty, easy to drink. Soft palate, lots of linger. Good.
3.6 Sweet, caramel roast aroma with some pepper. Squat, California longneck, great label and cap, clear dark brown beer, big tan head. Fairly acidic, lightly roasty, strong battering. Crisp mouthfeel, medium body. Good. Thanks to PorterPounder for the trade.
3.8 27 Dec 2012, bottle. Black. Nose is dark toast, some coffee, some milk chocolate. Very nice. Thin body and mildly fizzy. Milk chocolate and burnt toast new really nice. Not sweet, not too dark or roasted. Very nice.
3.3 12oz bottle 2/2/10 (PHX)-Pours dark brown with ruby tints and a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, molasses, and beef jerky. Taste of bacon and jerky. This light to medium bodied was not bad.
3.7 Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 12 oz bottle. Dark, leading to black pour, slight off-white head, light lacing. Rich aroma of potting soil and pipe tobacco. Full-bodied flavor with some light chocolate notes, a hint of black coffee, some chicory, a touch of licorice. Mouthfeel has a delectable chalkiness to it. Very nice.
3.3 12 oz bottle pours a brown color with an off white head. Aromas of roasted malt, nuts, dark chocolate. Medium bodied, lightier than I expected
3.9 Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Pours a very dark brown with good clarity and a thick darker beige head of foam. The aroma is very roasty and has some coffee influences and dark chocolates. The taste is roasty and very malt forward. This beer far exceeds my expectations. This beer is very good.
3.7 12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a half inch of medium beige-hued froth. Smell: Roasted malt fighting for attention with plump purple raisins of all things with slightly lesser notes chocolate, toast, etc. Taste: Roasted malt with not too much sharpness to it from the assumed black patent, slight chocolate undertone with a charred nuttiness throughout. Faint, gotta-look-for-it caramel accent. Lightly sweet. Some dark fruitiness, though expanding as it warms to a full-blown moist raisin flavor. Spicy European hops with enough bitterness when aided by the roast and crisp carbonation. Slight addition of pepper throughout. Gently roasty, fruity finish with amply suds. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation. Overall: A sufficient though not outstanding brown.
3.6 bottle from BevMo Tucson. Pours coca Cola brown with an inch of khaki foam. Lots of chocolate and nuttiness on the nose. The nuttiness is more prominent on the tongue. clean finish. very solid.
3.3 Slightly hazy red brown color with thin white lacing. Roasted nutty aroma that almost jumps out of the glass. Smooth and creamy palate. There is also a little chocolate and roasted nuttiness on the palate. Overall a solid brown ale.
3.5 bottle. clear brown with a small, tan head. nutty and toasted aroma. nice brown toasty notes with caramel. light body. good. solid.
3.5 Draft. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Medium toasted sweet malt and hop aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Solid toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Good complex brew.
3.6 Bottle from a trade with cbkschubert. Pours medium brown color with tan head. Aromas of toasted malts and chocolate. Toasted malt and chocolate flavors with some nuttiness. Medium body with average carbonation. Thanks Craig.
3.8 Root beer brown body with a 1 inch foamy, browned head. Intriguingly nutty with puffs of cocoa, sasparilla, and maple syrup. Malty and chocolatey body with a perfectly-stated nutty refinement that furthers the complexity. The tastiest artisan stuff I’ve had on my trek through Arizona.
3.2 On draught at Nimbus. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aroma has cocoa, light coffee and some berry. Taste is sweet with some roast. Not bad.
3.4 Sampled at the brewpub. Opaque brown with a nice layer of foam. I smell nuts and get a whiff of chocolate. The first sip is nutty but slowly chocolate cake and saaz filters in. That repeats itself with each sip. The feel is a bit thin. This is a nice rendition of a brown. Tasty.
2.9 Part of the sampler platter at the Sheraton in Phoenix. Best of the three that was sampled. Would liek to try this again
4.1 12oz bottle pours clear mahogany with copper – amber hues and lasting tan head. The aroma offers up ample amounts of toffee, roasted malts and earthiness mixing together very nicely. The taste begins with a brief straight up maltiness and is quickly joined by sweet toffee candy, some roasted malts, a pleasing dank earthiny maltiness and just a kiss of sweet dark fruity esters. Wow! This is scratching me right where I itch. Hits the spot for sure. Nice!
3.7 Dark brown but clear pour, good head, though it dissipated quickly. Nice bready and malty aroma. Smooth toasted malty flavor lingers on the tongue. There is a bit of complexity, but not a ton of it. My current favorite everyday drinking beer.
3.2 Draft at Nimbus. Pours clear brown/red, thin pale tan head, great lacing. Nose is sweet roast coffee, some berries & clean cardboard. Flavours of dark fruit, cocoa/roast, clean corrugated cardboard. Decent.
4.4 Man, this is solid good beer. Totally on the mark for style and session to boot. Poured with a nice sized foamy, frothy, cream colored head that lasts quite a while and lots of lace. Color is a clear, dark walnut. Aroma is nut oil, malt, cocoa, and a little bittersweet. Flavor is exactly the same only jacked up. Body and carbonation are excellent and perfect for the style. Session beer for sure.
3.5 On tap at Nimbus Appearance: Dark brown small off-white head and some lacing Aroma: Toasted malts and nutty Taste: Nutty and toasted malts Nice brown, easy drinking
2.6 I think I got a bad bottle of this. It poured nothing but foam that eventually subsided to a rocky tan head. Dark beer with a puffed wheat and dusty chocolate nose. Sour tangy taste of over ripe berries, faint chocolate and some faint roasted grains. The sour just seems off, or I may just be sensative to it.
3.5 Draft sample at the brewpub. Brown, white head. Aroma of caramel and walnuts. Taste is nutty and not too sweet, nice bitterness with good balance.
