3.7 Bottle from Joey! Pours a thick black with a creamy off white head. Chocolate, oatmeal and roasted grain aroma. Dry creamy malt body with chocolate and roasted grain in the taste. Awesome!
3.4 Draft. Aroma is dark malt with some yeasty sweetness. Appearance is black with a creamy head. Taste is sweet then got to the dark malt, but not too dry, surprisingly. Palate is pretty neutral. Overall, a decent stout. Would buy again.
3.8 Serving type: bottle Appearance- Pours very thick and syrupy with a tan head that quickly disappeared. The beer itself is a creamy solid black color. Lacing disappeared to little spots on the glass. Aroma- Roasted malt and oats with a coffee smell and a sweet molasses and chocolate nose. T/P- Smokey coffee, and a sweet chocolate taste to it. Mouth feel is very nice light carbonation no strong bitter aftertaste very clean. Overall- I have never been a huge stout drinker, but sine it is winter I am drinking more and more and starting to enjoy them more and more. This is a stout that making me start to enjoy them. I would defentaly have to buy this one again and again.
3.4 On draft at the brewpub bistro dark brown with a slight head aroma of oatmeal tastes of roared grain with overtones of coffee that lingers on the palate
3.4 On draft at the Nimbus Bistro in Tucson AZ. Pours black with a tan head. Creamy mouthfeel. Smoky flavor with some bitter coffee notes. Lingering bitter finish.
3.1 12 fl oz / 355mL bottle into a Guinness glass. Served cold. Aroma: Dark roast, Some bittersweet chocolate. Pretty mild aroma. Appearance: Opaque dark brown body, sparse dark tan head. Nice lacing. Taste: Pretty mild. Not bad, but mild. Roasty. Straightforward. Palate: Full bodied. Moderate finish. Kind of creamy, but not as creamy as Murphy’s. Better body than Guinness. Overall: Pretty good stout. Nothing really jumps out at me, but it’s a pretty good stout.
3.5 Poured from a bottle, dark, with a good tan creamy head. Aroma is immediate with the oatmeal and roasted coffee beans. Taste is light than some others in this style, but still good flavors: dark chocolate, roasted coffee. A little bitterness at the end. Decent beer.
2.9 Bottle; Poured dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma: light oat smell/ toasted/ metal. Flavor: Strong but not in a good way, tasted of metal, copper something to that effect. Slight malt/ roasted flavoring. Not my favorite.
4.8 Really appreciated this beer. It’s full body provided a great palate. Aromas and flavors are very appropiate for the stile. Rostness is right on the target.
3.9 12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled in 11/2012. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt, oatmeal, cocoa, caramel, light coffee, floral, mint, and herbal earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with solid balance and complexity of roasted notes with a prominent amount of hops. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malt, oatmeal, toast, caramel, light coffee, floral, mint, and herbal earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, oatmeal, caramel, light coffee, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of roasted malt flavors with light-moderate hop presence; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with almost zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice oatmeal stout. Well balance with nice flavor robustness and complexity; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a deep black with a humongous brown head. Big aroma, of oatmeal, chocolate, coffee, toasted malt. Taste is lighter, lots of roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate, burnt coffee, and some oatmeal. Lingering roasted bitterness. Decent.
3.1 On tap at the mother ship, Nimbus Tucson East, though I’ve had it in the bottle before. Nice dark roasted flavor, probably their best offering.
3.4 Dark brown with a strong off-white head. Subtle aromas of chocolate and oatmeal and sweet malt. Taste is consistent with the aroma, only more definite. Sweet aftertaste is pleasant, not overpowering. Medium body, somewhat watery mouthfeel, creamy texture and a sweetness from the oats in the finish.
3.7 12oz bottled October 2012. Served at around 45-50F. Pours black with a two finger light brown head that leaves impressive sheets and drippy rings of lacing and holds a good cap. Aroma is roasted malts, milk chocolate, a bit of coffee, touch of grassy hops. Good, but not great strength. Nice flavor of roasted malts, milk chocolate, coffee, some caramel, dark bread, bit of hops, mild to moderate sweetness, mild bitterness, mild alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, nice creamy Oatmeal Stout feel, moderate carbonation. Very nice Oatmeal Stout. Everything one would want in the style, smooth, creamy, chocolaty. Good one.
3.6 9 Jan 2013, bottle. black. nose is dark roasted malt. thin body and moderately fizzy. roasted malt, dark and sweet chocolate. nice.
3.3 12oz bottle. Good appearance, lacing, small tan head, black color per the standard. Aroma is good, nothing that special or different. Really roasty-toasty flavor, dark chocolate especially. Body is thinner than some, but not bad. Tastes stronger than it is, as well. Worth a try.
3.6 Bottle. Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a nice roasted malts with a bit of underlying sweet dark grains. Flavor starts with a good amount of roasted malts and is joined by a bit of sweet dark grains and a hint of sweet chocolate.
4.0 Big coffee and roast aromas. Deep black with a small tan head. Sweet roast a message change flavors. Full bodied with a sweet finish.
2.5 It’s that time of year when I really enjoy a good stout, so this is something that I’m looking forward to trying. Poured from a bottle into a tulip. Brown in color with a small khaki head. A bit lighter in color than I prefer for my stouts. Very fruity aroma with notes of raisins and dark cherries, and a solid roasted coffee scent, with a little bit of dark chocolate. So far the nose on this is great. Taste is pretty damn thin. Light chocolate, thin coffee, and a strange finish that has a beef jerky quality. Metallic in the finish as well. I’m really put off by how this tastes.
3.3 Bottle from total wine. Decent straight up stout with some nice chocolatey notes. A bit of a creamy texture. Finishes a touch bittersweet. Solid offering but nothing earth shattering.
3.1 Bottle from Daknole! Poured into a goblet. Deep, dark brown with a nice medium tan head that fades leaving lines of lacing. Aroma is light chocolate, a bit nutty, with a tinge of coffee.Taste is chocolate, slightly stale coffee, metallic. A bit thin. Not as smooth/full bodied as i would expect an oatmeal stout.
3.7 10/30/12. 12oz bottle from Five Points. Very deep, dark brown pour, almost black, with a 2-finger tan head that cuts in half but sticks and laces plenty. Rich aroma of coffee, chocolate, cream, and some burnt caramel. Nice roasted malt character in the flavor as well with coffee, chocolate, cream, burnt caramel, and a touch of a burnt popcorn aspect. There’s also a sense of dark fruit and marshmallow in there. My only complaint is that it’s a bit light and thin. Otherwise, it’s pretty tasty.
3.8 Liquorice, raisins, and heavy molasses on the nose. Jet black in color with almost no foam. Nice plethora of flavors including roasted coffee beans, burnt molasses, toasted oats and some subtle cocoa. Overall, this is a well done stout boasting some assertive and complex flavors. I’d give this a B+ rating.
3.2 Bottle from BevMo Tucson. Pours black with a ton of khaki foam. Big chocolate and roast notes on the nose. Taste the roast on the tongue but it also feels slightly burned as well. finishes clean. eh.
4.4 Smoky, earthy aroma has nutty, yeasty and hoppy hints. It pours a beautiful opaque dark-chocolate brown with a fairly thick and persistent tan head that leaves some generous lacing. Sublime flavor has smoky, roast malt, coffee, nutty, earthy and toffee notes of varying prominence, quite tasty. Texture has good body and fizz - not full-bodied, but still impressive. Heartily recommended.
3.2 Bottle. Creamy chocolate and a bit of coffee in the nose. Dark brown, translucent at the edges, and little head. Decent chocolate flavor, some brown sugar, and not a lot else. Very mild aftertaste. Smooth, thin, and a bit fizzy. Mild and pleasant. Okay.
3.5 bottle. nice looking, thick, light brown head. chocolatey sweet oatmeal aroma. flavor has good blend of bitter roast and sweet milk chocolates. the body is thin for an oatmeal stout, but the oatmeal addition does make the palate creamy. kind of dry finish.
3.6 12oz bottle, thanks to Radarsock. Good, half-inch light brown head. Black body. Decent lace. Good, hearty texture, but light-tan medium body. Lighter, smooth carbonation. Great aromatic nose. Nice creamy chocolate malts and oat flavor, some good roastiness. Satisfying, robust flavor, good mild bitter sweet roasty taste. Satisfying solid oatmeal stout. Can’t complain. Good example of the style. My mom had a sip, she really seemed to like it.
3.4 At Nimbus. Pours dark brown. Aroma has cocoa oatmeal chocolate. Taste is sweet with some roast. Decent beer.
3.6 Sampled at the brewpub. Stout looking. Chocolate aroma and flavor. Softer roasted notes. Lots of malt with only a hint of hops that are noticed more in the after taste. A creamy feel. Nothing here is big but it is nice.
