Ninkasi Spring Reign Ale

Ninkasi Spring Reign Ale

Seasonal Release Series. Spring forward with this refreshing seasonal ale. Notes of toasted malt up front with a bright and crisp Northwest hop finish. It’s a session beer that everyone can enjoy.

Like many Ninkasi beers, this is an ale more than a specific style, though we put it in the Northwest Pale category. A light toasted malt flavor is more reminiscent of a British Pale, but the hops are bright and very Northwest. Flavorful and easy to drink!

3.6 Draft at RnH-West. Clear gold-orange with an almost coating lace. Light aroma of some citrus, pale malts, and some grass. Flavor is similar. Light sweet, light bitter. Soft mouthfeel, fairly dry. Pretty solid.
3.4 Clear amber pour with a nuce whute head and great lacing. Aroma is very floral with some sweet citrus and toast. Taste is cracker, citrus rind, perfume and pine. Bitterness is a little harsh on the back end. Medium light body.
3.7 12oz bottle pours with a nearly clear pure gold body that supports a near white head. The aroma offers up a blend of cracker like malts, floral hops and a dash of lime hard candy. The taste begins pretty nice as the malts and sort of cracker like sensation are met by an equal level of hop bitterness that seems floral and a bit spicy and grassy and lime like. The bitter citrus hop character builds to a moderate level to midway and then maintains that into the finish. Pretty nice pale.
3.2 Bottle: Clear, light golden hue, thick head and great lace. A little musty. Green hop lift. It a little to dank for me. Dry palate, not sour but massively bitter for the weight. Not a balanced beer at all. More like an IPA than a Pale Ale. High CO2 on the palate. Just a hard drink. I want to see richer malt and more aromatic and cleaner hops.
3.5 Bottle. Bright and young-looking, medium orange, soft head. Medium creamy citrus is the predominate character. Frothy. (#5991, 6/21/2015)
3.2 Sweet lemon brilliance. Abrupt crisp bitterness. Ok beer. Missing some aroma and flavor.
3.8 Bottle into IPA glass. Pours a deep golden colour with a finger of white head. Aroma is floral hops with a little toasted malt. Taste is about the same. Really nice beer.
3.5 Pours a clear gold with a foamy white head and lacing. The aroma has some grass and pine notes with a similar flavor that leads to a slightly sweet finish over a medium body.
3.0 The Sampler, Brooklyn bottle: pours gold witha white head. Aroma is pine and some fruitiness. Taste is lightly bitter. Easy drinking. Pretty standard. Bitter aftertaste. Not blown away.
2.7 Served on tap at Linda's. Yellow gold color. Mostly clear. Light hippy aroma but not much there. Carbonated medium light body with a fizzy ending. Mild mix of hops and citrus with a weak hops ending. Nothing special.
3.3 Bottle (22oz $5): Golden with 2 finger white soapy head. Toasted malts was the first thing I tasted. Bitterness in the end was more than expected. Piney.
3.6 Tap. Beer from Eugene OR! Copper pour with a nice white head. Citrus, Asian herb, spice. Refreshing carbonation. Almost spicy. Medium body. Refreshing
3.8 Rushed for time. Think Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Now imagine that beer being crisper, sharper, cleaner, and more refreshing. My favorite Ninkasi so far.
3.4 22 oz bottle was gift from Margaret, many thanks. Pours a clear bright orange golden color with white fading head. Aroma is mild citrusy good and toasted malt with a touch of oxidation. Flavor is same with light mandarin orange citrus sweetness, followed by a slightly iron rust finish. Would have been nice to try fresh.
2.4 Clear, bright, golden, orange, sunset body with a half inch of pure white head. Aromas of ripe citrus, cleaning solution. Harsh with chemical notes. Sweet malt with too present alcohol. Candy melon sweetness. No sir.
3.5 Bomber at home. Pours a fairly hazy bright yellow, with a rapidly disappearing head and good adhesion. Herbal aroma, not too strong. Taste is pleasant, a little chewier than other hoppy pale ales -- they didn’t cheapen on the grain bill -- it’s a little stronger than most "session" pale ales, but that’s okay by me. Good palate, thicker than most, with long grassy aftertaste. Recommended.
3.2 A bit odd. Pours a bright golden yellow with a thin off white head, light lacing. The aroma is non-existant but a light grass note. Sweet caramel malts are light. Citrus hops, light pine needle, grass, floral notes. A bit monotone overall. Lingering bitterness despite only 38 IBU’s. Seems a bit out of whack.
3.3 Nice APA from Ninkasi. Pours a hazy gold with a 2 finger foam head - respectable lacing so far. Very interesting balance between sweet floral hop flavours and bitterness. Very well balanced. Has a dry hoppy palate and is very drinkable. Yum!
3.5 Bottle. A: Murky, light-amber color, foamy half-inch white head, N: Toast, pine, black peppercorn, light citrus, cracker, a bit of doughiness. T: Quite bitter, very light sweetness. M: Medium-light body, some alcohol presence, fizzy carbonation. O: A decent APA. It might be moderately superior to SNPA,, and I think it is one of Ninkasi’s best beers. (Which I suppose isn’t saying much given my view of beers like Total Domination.)
3.5 Draft at Barrel Republic. Pours hazy amber with a thick, creamy white head. Tastes fruity, like raspberry, musky grains, very dry grapefruit, citrus hops, and cookie malt. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like sweet fruit, raspberry, citrus hops, cookie malt.
3.0 Draft - Light citrus peel and pale malt. Clear gold with a decent white head. Light sweetness, peel bitterness and a long bitter finish. To bitter.
3.6 12 oz bottle. Clear light amber, thin beige head, spotty lace. Caramel malt aroma, with some light fruity hops. Flavor is much more hop forward than the aroma. Pine and citrus up front, sweet malts in the middle, long bitter finish.
3.3 Bottle from Safeway in Milwaukie OR. Pours an almost clear orange / amber. Mild hoppy nose with malts smoothing the initial and palate tasting....pleasant....not sure about the session part...6% is a little heavy for a full evening...but guess everyone wants on the session wagon.
3.3 Bottle from Fred Meyer. Slightly hazy brownish/gold in color. Slightly skunky hop nose. Somewhat pungent. Food hoppiness throughout. Fish is pretty bitter. Underlying breadiness and a fairly creamy mouthfeel.
3.3 22 oz bottle served in a wine glass in Oregon (from summer 2014 notes). Excellent clarity and carbonation in an amber body. Crisp, near medium body. Flavor: This has the hop load and bitterness of an IPA. Overly bitter and piney aftertaste with lingering grapefruit peel. O: recommended for hop heads who favor piney hops and plenty of grapefruity bitterness.
3.1 "the brewer’s description above is pretty dead on. a pleasant enough pale ale...well balanced and quaffable...nothing special but the toasted malt is done well. smells a tad hoppier than it ended up being, though."
3.5 From notes: Poured from a bottle it is a cloudy golden color with a slight head. The aroma is citrus and it has a bitter flavor of citrus mainly oranges that lingers on the palate.
3.5 From a 22 oz bottle enjoyed in Jackson Hole. Pours a hazy copper with a thick off white head. Fruity nose. Flavors of tropical fruit and citrus. Bitter finish.
3.5 6% session beer, lol. Sure, if you’re a sumo. Golden-bronze colour. Toasty malt with a touch of apple. Berryish character, splash of bitterness and then there’s a dry, hoppy finish. Ok brew.
3.2 Pours a light copper color with a full floral bouquet of aroma. Taste is light, good amount of spruce, toasted malt, with a hop finish. Mild bitterness at the end of every swallow. Good complexity and very easy drinking, a nice seasonal beer that would be an everyday drinker during the summer.
