Nøgne Ø # 100 (Batch 100)

Nøgne Ø # 100 (Batch 100)

Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor’s note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery usually says it’s brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was supposedly a glitch. In Europe it’s sold as an IIPA. But to save the admin crew some time dealing with user feedback, it’s listed as a Barley Wine.

4.2 Dark, dark brown with minimal head. Aroma full of molasses, toffee, prunes. Taste is pleasingly sweet, well balanced with a quite mild, roasted bitterness. Big heavy body. Mmmm. Wish I had a bottle of this one!
3.3 PINT tasting. Poors foggy brown, overdue bottle so residue, Taste is sweet, (Arnhem 201909)
3.8 Bevuta in bottiglia. Ottima barley ben equilibrata.
Tuoksussa on tummaa ja kuivaa hedelmää, hieman humalaa ja lakritsia. Suutuntuma on täyteläinen ja napakka. Mausta löytyy salmiakkia, viinaisuutta, tummaa hedelmää ja lopuksi humalan tasapainottava puraisu.
5.0 Very good indeed, absolutely loved it! One of the best Barley Wines i ever had!
4.0 50cl bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours deep brown, with some fine, light brown, foam. Aroma is heavily malty, boozy, caramel, herbaceous. Body is dense, with moderate carbonation. Taste is intense, heavily bitter. Finish is fairly long and bitter.
4.0 Aroma: lots of toffee, caramel, malty flavour dominates the aroma, accompanied with citrus and piney hop, dried fruit. Appearance: mild hazy orange-brown colour with a 1+ finger tan head and plenty of suspension. Taste: lots of toffee, caramel, citrus and piney hop, dried fruit. medium-high sweetness, medium-high bitterness. Palate: full body, oily texture, low carbonation, moderate dryness, boozy. Overall: It smells very malty and tastes very malty which is very typical of a barley wine. On top of strong malty profile, it's got a nice touch of hop from American variety imparting some citrus, piney flavour and refreshment as well. The malty sweetness balances well with the hop bitterness. Really decent.
4.0 For some reason, my last get-together with HuskerTan had several beers that were a bit tough to categorize. This burnt orange colored Nøgne Ø brew was one of those. I'm going to go ahead and say that it drank like a West Coast style barleywine/IPA/Strong Ale type thing. There is a heavy hop presence with forest flavors. Pine, spruce, juniper, eucalyptus. There's also some bitter citrus notes redolent of orange peel and grapefruit. For all the hoppiness, this also does have a strong malt backbone with some caramel and toffee notes.
3.0 Bottle. A- Caramel, booze, malty. A- Dark brown color, hazy liquid, minimal head. T- Caramel, malty, booze, brown sugar, pine, juniper, mild bitterness. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- Filled with chunks and floaties which I always dislike. I would say this is certainly more barleywine than IIPA. Lots of caramel malt, booze, and toffee notes. Some bitterness, but not really an ipa. A bit of a malt bomb.
3.5 Buenos toques a torrwfacto a madera.
Appearance: pours clear dark amber with ok soapy off-white head and lacing. aroma/taste: barley, bread, caramel, nuts, alcohol, dried fruit, grapefruit, pine, light wood and earthy notes. palette: strong malty and medium hoppy aroma, average carbonation, full body, notable sweetness, balanced by a medium to notable bitterness, long duration and an oily texture. Overall: tasteful and well balanced -great stuff
3.5 Flaske.
3.8 50 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with an off-white lacing head. Sweet malty, slight fruity aroma. Thick chocolate and hoppy fruity flavoured. Nice dark malty and bitter finish. Very nice. Arôme
4.0 From backlog. Bottle from Vinmonopolet Hamar. Amber with offwhite head. Malts, hops, Caramel, fruits and herbs.
2.9 Bottle sample at a tasting at Lior's place. Thanks Tom. Hazy copper with beige head. Sweetish aroma with notes of alcohol, raisin, liqueur, some citrusy hops, farty. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, liqueur, raisin, some orange and marmalade, sticky. Full-bodied.
3.0 At a tasting, thanks, smallish bubbly head, cloudy dark red to light brown color, citrus and biscuit aroma with a dairy hint, flavor of lemon and orange marmalade with biscuit enveloping, light noticable bitterness. Drinkable, nothing too great.
2.7 Bottle sample at a tasting at Lior D's place. Thanks Tom L. Hazy amber. Malt, caramel, some fruitiness, stale hops, sweet, some alcohol, umami hint, medium-bodied.
2.8 Bottle at a tasting. Thanks Tom. Hazy amber with a small head. Aroma candy, flowers, overripe fruits and marmalade. Sweet, cloying, fruity, caramel, honey, old hops, herbal bitterness. Medium-bodied, sticky. Probably better when fresh.
4.2 Ocena wystawiona na podstawie wspomnień z degustacji w ramach uzupełnienia profilu.
3.9 0,33l bottle. Pours cloudy brown with off-white head. Aroma of dark fruits, malt, caramel and a surprising amount of hoppiness. Taste is herbs, caramel, malt, ginger, raisin, slightly nutty. Full bodied and the hops gives a new twist. You either like it or you wont.
2.7 At Lior's Place, pours brown with a beige head, aroma of fruits, caramel, spices, toffee, flavor is bitter with dried fruits, caramel, soy, medium bodied
3.8 Lukt: rosin, dadler, salt, karamell(?), Smak: mokka på ettersmaken, dadler, Kremete og utrolig søt. Spekka full av smak. Saftig, bitter. 7,6/10 180723
