Nøgne Ø 100% Peated

Nøgne Ø 100% Peated

This beer is brewed with 100% Scottish peat smoked whisky malt. This malt generates an intense smokey flavor and aroma. In fact its intensity makes this beer almost undrinkable, unless you blend it with other ingredients. We recommend to use this product to give a balanced smoked note to foods and drinks as oysters, sauces, marinades, sausages, fatty fish, chocolate and dark beer. Improve your world by giving it a hint of smoke.

3.4 0,25L brygget 10/12, takk Kjetil (BKL 2014). - "Almost Undrinkable" caveat stamp. wasnt’t prepared for a dark honeyblond pour. Massive medicinal peat chlorine in the nose, Lagavulin and Laphroaig turf, over sweetish honeypop malts. Flabby maybe due to age, yet still keeping that balance between chloric peat and sweetish honeybread. Actually drinkable enough, a nice hint of coasts more rugged than the Black Forest.
3.3 Flaske Lys kobber. Tynt skum. Ojoojoj single maltwhisky uten alkohol. Ubrukelig som drikke . Denne går i gryteretten gitt
0.7 Bottle ’thnx’ to ships. As one of the people that gets absolutely repelled by anything even remotely smoked, this should be a real treat. Therefor, this specific rating should be put into perspective as well... Pours clear, dark blonde. Good to big white head. Smell is awefully peated and only peated. Taste is super unbalanced , so peated it becomes bitter. I DO NOT get the idea behind this, as I can not see how this is enjoyable, accept for giving it to people and be a disaster tourist, just like this 77-hips guy did
3.0 Light brown to amber in color, aroma is very peat dominant, smoke, oaky and sweet malt. Taste is less peaty and a touch sweet from the malt and has some light raisins. Did not think this was drinkable and even the label states this, was pleasantly surprised and quite enjoyed it.
3.3 Thanks to erzengel for sharing!! Pours a deep yellow with an off-white head. The smell is smoke, chloraseptic, toasted malt. The taste is caramel, smoke, sweet fruit, chloraseptic and a dry ending.
3.5 Bottle at Cara B. Brown colour with off white head. Intense peated aroma. Peated, malt, bacon, slightly sweet taste. Medium body. Interesting.
3.1 Aroma is sweet malts, honey, wet oak, cask and straw. Taste is sweet malts with a Constant malt body. Appearance is a cloudy orange with sediment. Head retains fairly well.
3.6 Great prayed nose like an intense Scottish whiskey. Nice floral fruity beginning. Nice smokey body with sweetish grainy malt. Not too sweetish, quite easy to drink. Peated-bitter aftertaste with hints of smokey sweetness. Not too bad! I like it - even great sessionable!
2.8 Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. A hazy amber beer that pours with a white foamy head. It has a very strong peat, smoked beechwood and iodine flavour followed by a spiced earthy, chemical and smooth almond finish. Far too high an ABV for the flavour.
4.1 Bottle 25cl. Orange to pale amber, hazy color. Aroma is intensive smoked, bacon, peat, wood fire, coal. Flavor is malty, sweet, also very intensive smoked with wood fire, heavy smoked bacon, whiskey, hints of fruits, roasty smoked bitter finish. Very good and for sure easy drinkable.
3.7 Brygget: 25/10/12. Bäst før: 25/10/14. Batch nr.: 879.
3.5 Not sure what points to give to this beer. Peat all over. Smoked peat in it’s purest beer form. It had to be well brewed to get it out. After that the beer is moderately sweet. The peat pulls out the flavors of smoke, alcohol, esters. Very interesting. Before I finish the bottle I’m gonna blend it with something. Not sure with what yet.
3.9 Bottle. Dark amber body with offwhite head. Aroma is smoked with hints of malts. Taste is also smoke. Aftertaste is also malty smoke. As this is not recommended to be drunken pur it drinks really nice, if you like smoke. Nice.
3.8 An slightly orange colour, a head is blond and medium. Aroma has huge amount of peat, some smoke, also smoothning sweetness. Taste has more balanced peat than in the aroma, but still strong peat, nice sweetness, some fruitness and smoke. Taste is surpringly balanced that couldn’t be expected after the aroma. Medium bodied, not at all almost undrinkable as the bottle claims. Intensive peat but still great balance. I have to like this beer. Brewed 25/10/12, BBE 25/10/14, "too old" but that’s not bothering.
3.0 small pour at LIBF, cloudy amber to light brown colour, nose is hit with smoke, salt, iodine, peat, smoked malts, caramel. burned plastic, chemical, to heavy, just like they anounce on the bottle.
3.8 Bottle sample @ Leuven Beer Innovation 2015, shared with the RB Belgian crew.
3.4 Pale, fully hazy yellow beer, under a small off-white head. Very smoked, with peat indeed, tarred gulfbreakers. Peat, tarr, Lapsan Souchong,... Medium bodied, extremely slick to oily (tarry?) feel, filmy. They promised the right thing. Smoked to the detriment of anything else.
3.7 Sample @ Leuven innovation Beer Festival #1 - Color: hazy pale blond beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell: domination of peat and earthy. Notes of malt, and really small caramel presence. Taste: very nice blast peat, with good taste and and balance of malt. Good persistence, and well balanced. Aftertaste: finish peat and malty. Good experience. Maybe it can be difficult to drink a bootle because of the taste of peat.
3.4 Thanks for sharing! Sampled bottled @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. Hazy brown, little head. Nose is peated but the peat carries an oily, plastic, smoked quality, too plastic, no balance obviously, faint sweetness,… Taste is same, big plastic oily peat, very plastic & peated, smoke, light iodine, touch creamy chocolate quality underneath, tad chemical,… Lightly fizzy,… Unbalanced gimmick obviously. Not much to say here with nothing else the peat obtained a way plastic quality. Passable esp. for what it is.
2.2 Bottle from humlebingen.com, cheers! Lots of peat, asphalt and iodine above all. At least too much for my liking. It also has got a honeyish, citrusy touch and is surprisingly soft in terms of the mouthfeel. The aftertaste comes again with a punch of iodine. Well brewed but I guess I just don’t like being reminded of an army field hospital while drinking beer.
3.8 Bottle from Den Nordiske Ølhandel, Copenhagen; batch 879, brewed 25/10/12, bb 25/10/14 (tasted Jan 2014) Cloudy deep blond color with quite small head, not persistent. The aroma is intense, very smoked, nothing as fat as the Bamberg beers or iodine as the Islay whiskey; it’s closer to a smoked mackerel; some iodine appears later. Good body strength; moderately sweet; the smoke takes strong wood notes and some light acidity that is out of tune; it’s a bit salty; correctly bitter. Interesting, but the aroma is much better than the flavor and final.
3.4 Brutal. In der Nase Schinken, Kabelbrand, Torf, leicht fruchtige Noten. Am Gaumen etwas Schinken, prägnante Süße, recht schmal.
2.5 Sampled from bottle @ Van Moll Brewpub, thanks Jaap! Murky yellowish brown color, virtually no head. Aroma is huge huge intense smoke, peat, fingerpaint and iodine. Taste is surprisingly doable, peat, iodine, fingerpaint and smoke again but way more balanced and soft than you would expect from the aroma. Pretty weird beer.
4.2 @Braukunst Live 2015 Festival cereal, soy sauce, earthy, very much peated, brown, hazy, frothy, tan foam, light sweetness, medium bitterness, medium sourness, salty, full body, creamy, soft carbonation,
4.6 25 cL bottle in bar. Surprisingly clear presentation. Intense aroma of peat and smoke hits you as soon as you open the bottle and persists in taste, which is surprisingly not over the top/unbalanced. As someone who loves peaty and smoky Scotch, this was amazing. Tastes like what Ardbeg would make if they produced beer. The peat and smoke stayed in my mouth the rest of the evening, so perhaps best as a nightcap or alone. Despite the "Almost Undrinkable" label, it’s actually one of the most easy-drinking beers I’ve ever had. Would love to get it in a larger bottle.
3.7 Bottle from a trade with Cunningham, huge thanx for that rare one!! Pours hazy orange with a high, creamy white head. Smell has tons of smoke and some whiskey, as well as some blackforest ham. Starts with a bunch of smoke, paired with ham, whiskey and a sweetish yeast note. Middle part has also tons of smoke, sweet malt notes and again lots of blackforest ham. Goes into a (what a surprise) strong smokey finish with some whiskey and again some smoked ham. The most smoked beer for me so far, but it’s not really undrinkable. I like it :-)
3.2 Bottle. Unclear body, small white head. Aroma is Islay whisky. Flavour is much of the same, but there is also a sourish and yeasty hint. Smokey and light sweet finish. (07.02.2015)
4.1 How: Bottle Appearance: Golden color, some white head. Aroma: smoke, peat, caramel. Palate: medium to full body, average carbonation.
Aromat to przede wszystkim mokre pogorzelisko!
