3.6 50 cl bottle @ Gastropub Nordic, Tampere. Originally rated on 20110304. Pours hazy amber color with a small head. Aroma of hops, caramel, ripe fruits, some mild alcohol burn and nutty notes. Flavor of ripe fruits, caramel, some toffee, alcohol and malts. The alcohol comes through a bit too much, otherwise decent.
3.2 A-- Poured a deep orange brown color. Decent but very short lived carbonation and minimal off white head. Never got more than a 1/4 of an inch and quickly faded to spotty film. On swirling got the same results. Quick build up and quick fade. S-- Lots of stewed plumbs and cherries, thick and sweet smell, burnt carmel tones as well with this. More like a Dark Belgian Ale but much sweeter and touches of hazelnut. T-- Thick stewed plumbs and cherries again. Very syrupy front . M-- Very little carbonation with this. Very syrupy feel as well. More like a Belgian Dark Ale but more syrupy and less carbonated. Touches of booze in the mouth and does thin out in the end. Not by much though. Kind of a medicinal syrupy finish. Like cherry cough medicine. D-- Not a bad home brew at all.
3.3 The aroma is alcoholic with butterscotch, toffee, caramel, and pine. The appearance is deep amber with a small head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall a beer I like well but maybe too strong.
3.3 Copper brown, thin beige head, light lacing. Aroma of alcohol, quite sweet, malty, molasses, brown sugar. Flavour of alcohol, burnt sugar, quite sweet, fruity.
Alcoholic mouthfeel, medium body, mild carbonation. Finishes long, boozy, sweet.
Not bad, a bit warming though. 650ml bottle purchased at Knightly Spirits in Orlando, Florida. Opened in July 2010. Didn’t record bottle information.
4.2 500 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 6/18/2009. Pours extremely cloudy reddish brown color with a small 1 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big raisin, prune, toffee, caramel, toast, biscuit, cocoa, earth, herbal, pine, molasses, and honey. Very nice and well balanced malty aromas with good complexity. Taste of caramel, molasses, raisin, prune, pear, apple, herbal, floral, earth, toffee, chocolate, toast, biscuit, pine, honey, and light spiciness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, molasses, dark fruit, apple, toast, biscuit, chocolate, honey, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance of flavors with good complexity, and no cloying sweetness. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed well after the finish. Overall this is a very excellent barleywine. Great flavor balance and complexity; and quite smooth to sip on as well. Highly enjoyable stuff.
3.2 Backlog nov/dec 2010. On bottle from Vinmonopolet. Dark color, some foam. Dried fruit aromas & resembles those of strong wine. Full body & high complexity. Sweet and some unbalance. Ok, but not my preferred style
3.6 1st December 2009 Pigs Ear! Bottle thanks to Rune! Cheers my tall Norwegian friend! Cloudy brown beer. Light malty nose. Light light fluffy palate. Rich but light malt. Light Port WIne and a little brandy. Finishes light and dry.

3.6 Bottle shared by Mike12da. Estery nose, apple, pear, funk. Cloudy brown with lace. Fruity, sweet flavor, with vanilla. Light and clean, not all that interesting really, though it did open up a bit as time passed. Decent.
3.1 Hazy dark brown colour with a beige head. Rich sweet nose with some alcohol. Very sweet flavour, with a lot of fruity notes and some alcohol. [Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Halden, Norway]
1.3 Let me preface my review with this statement--I think my bottle was messed up, or at least I hope so. Pours hazy ruby brown with...drumroll please....ABSOLUTELY NO HEAD!! I mean this beer was absolutely flat. Aroma is sweet barley and caramel, very one dimensional. Taste is same but waaaay too sweet. Body is medium, dense, absolutely no carbonation, cloying finish. Overall, this was the worst beer experience I’ve had in a while. What the F Nogne?
3.9 500 mL bottle from State Line Liquors and shared at the 17th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 1/28/12. Batch 435 best by 180614. Pours a hazy amber color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of big toffee malts, citrus and brown sugar. The taste is brown sugar, caramel, anise, raisin and bitter hops. Full bodied, chewy, lingering bitterness. Nice.
4.2 Deep brown, nice head at the Richmond 17th. Deep caramel, slight dough, touch of floral hops. Somewhat raisiny flavor, Good caramel flavor, really a very nice beer.
3.7 Sampled at the Richmond 17th Gathering. Hazy light brown pour with decent offwhite head. Sweet caramel and rum fruit. Good mellow and not hot. Smooth warming going down.
3.6 Dark reddish brown of color with a beige head, An aroma of raisins, sweets, caramel, weak chocolate and port. A flavor of malt, raisins, port, prunes, sweets and weak chocolate.
3.8 #1097 draught; Nose is red apple, oak, decent alcohol, sour earth, feel is quite watery, carb is mediumlow, taste is oak, decent alcohol bite, rotten fruit, later weak licorice
4.3 Bottle, vintage 2009. Hearty thick medium amber pour with golden highlights and a dense golden crown. Aroma is sweetly malty, lots of toast and toffee, fruity with hints of butterscotch. Thickly malty palate, sweet buttery toffee (Worther’s), solid fruity accents (sweet sultanas, dates), bitter finish that balances perfectly. Sticky, chewy goodness. I wish I could get more of this!
4.0 Taster from bottle. Pours a hazy orange with little white head. Smells of sweet, orange, apple and fig. Tastes somewhat cloyingly sweet, with a good medium bitterness to balance it out. Texture is syrupy. Body is medium. Finish is dry.
4.0 Flaske 0,5l fra Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget. Batch 435.
4.0 Bottle shared by akevitt, batch 435. Pours a slightly hazy, dark red body with a thick light brown head. Aroma of sugars and fruits; a nice balance of apple cider, dark fruits, prune, brown sugar, and caramel with a hint of alcohol. An almost liqueur/wine scent. Flavor is similar with more sweet malts and sugars. Lightly carbonated with a very smooth mouthfeel. Light alcohol burn on the finish. A solid drinkable barleywine.
3.6 Bottle from 2009. Pours medium to dark brown with red hew with nice head that lingers around the rim of the beer. Nose is fruity ketones and aldehydes. First sip is bready with malty fruit flavors and toffee, bitterness still slight in finish.
4.1 On Tap. Aroma: Rich honey and caramel. Palate: Very smooth with long finish Flavor: Like the nose--very rich and flavorful. Comments: A smooth almost elegant version of a Barley Wine than isn’t just about power. Good palate.
4.3 Bottle sample at the high gravity tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 10/21/11. Cloudy copper pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of sherry, caramel, toffee, soft fruit, and booze. Caramel and chocolate malt flavor up front with a bit of fruit before a boozy caramel finish. Very good.
3.9 Batch 435, brewed 18-06-09 Pours a dark caramel brown color with amber edges and a one finger yellowish beige head that quickly fades into a thick lasting ring. Spots of lacing left behind. Sweet boozy aroma with lots of leathery and sweet malt character as well as some subtle spice and earthy hops. Some zesty, peppery notes along with subtle grassy hops up front quickly countered by the malts. Earthy and leathery with hints of caramel, rye, toffee and biscuit. Boozy sweetness but not overpowering. Medium bodied with a good balance of bitter, earthy hops, sweet, earthy malts and boozy sweetness. A strong hop presence up front with some slightly bitter, piny hops that linger over the sweeter notes into a slightly dry, hot finish. The malt profile is the dominant flavor with a good balance of sweet and earthy notes. Slightly leathery with hints of caramel, toffee, nut and hazelnut. Toward the end of the palate there is some slight boozy heat but the high ABV is very nicely balanced. Overall this beer is pretty well balanced and easy to drink. I imagine the hops have faded a bit but it’s still flavorful, complex and easy to drink.
3.5 A murky dark reddish brown barley wine with a thin off white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, light vinous character, alcohol warmth, light licorice, pleasant. In mouth, sweet fruity caramel malt with vinous notes, dark fruits, alcohol warmth, licorice, still solid after 10 years. 2009 bottle, bb June 2014.
4.2 500mL bottle, pours a beautiful murky dark mahogany with a beige head. Aroma of brown sugar, rich dark fruits, toffee, butterscotch and candied sugar. Flavour of dried, dark fruits, brown sugar, toffee and caramel malts. Well-integrated flavours with not too much sweetness. Quite complex and full-bodied. Delicious.
3.6 Pours to a super murky brown body with a dense khaki head. The aroma is sweet hops with some barley. Mostly and odd hoppy barley wash. The flavor is super malty sweet barley with some bitter grassy hops. The palate is super nicely textured with a medium body and light bitter finish.
3.7 Thanks to Blake for bringing the 500mL bottle! Poured murky deeper brown with a well-retained dense beige head. The aroma picked up warm, sweet, mostly darker fruit sugars, along with some honey and sweeter molasses.. black pepper spiced it up nicely. The flavor found aged caramel and darker fruits, with vanilla and molasses on the edges.. fresher fruit and light floral bitterness around.. very fruity with a lot of warm sugars on the finish.. sweet overall and belly warming. Heavier-bodied with low-moderate carbonation.. could’ve used more of the hops I’m sure were there once, but it was still really good.
3.6 Bottled. A hazy deep red beer with a huge orangey head. The aroma has notes of caramel, malt, alcohol, and some fruit. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel sauce, alcohol, over ripe fruits, and a bit of hops and wood, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. The alcohol bites lightly in the tongue.
