Nøgne Ø Havrestout

Nøgne Ø Havrestout

We usually do not make compromises, but this is probably the exception. Norwegians are dead scared of dark beers. This is an attempt to show that there are gentle dark ales. As such Havre Stout is smooth and drinkable.

We think Havre Stout is good both with and in food. Try pairing it with a read meet dish, or give your vanilla icecream a small dash before serving. Recommended serving temperature 8°C/45°F.

11°P 20 IBU 4,5% ABV.

3.5 50cl bottle picked up at De Bierkoning, Amsterdam and poured into a snifter on 20-Dec-2016. Dark brown colour with a thick beige coloured head which disappears pretty quickly. Aroma of cocao nibs, coffee, caramel and malt. Medium body and carbonation. Taste of chocolate, coffee and malt with a little toffee sweetness. Light sour with a mild bittersweet finish. Good balance, and a nice stout.
3.3 Brown-black, beige-brown head, aroma of chocolate, coffee, caramel, toffee, sourish flavor, toffee, a bit of smoke, coffee, caramel, toffee, medium bodied.
2.9 Bottle. Aroma is hints of chocolate, dark caramel, cold coffee and some roasted notes. Black, minimal beige head. Light sweetness, light bitterness, taste is hints of toffee, coffee, light chocolate, cold coffee, roasty. Light body, medium carbonation, pretty short finish with some hints of dark fruits. Not very interesting.
3.1 Wygląd: czarne, nieprzejrzyste, piana beżowa, niezbyt obfita. Aromat: trochę kawy i czekolady, po ogrzaniu pojawiają się nuty rozpuszczalnika. Smak: kawa, czekolada i dość wyczuwalny popiół.
3.0 Bottle at home. Pours black with small tan head. Aroma is roasty malts. Taste is a bit watery roasted malt and coffee. Not bad not that good.
Nais
3.6 Sample at DØE 2016. Black with a beige head. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, bread, licorice and sweetness.
3.4 Pours black with a low off white head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt, roasted nuts, vanilla. Taste is roasted and chocolatey with a nicely balanced maltiness. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation.
2.2 Vaahtoaa ihan pirusti, kolme kertaa piti kaataa tuoppiin. Savua, kahvia ja kirpeyttä aistittavissa muuten vetisessä stoutissa.
2.5 Not so tough as expected from the look. The taste, aroma and palate was lower than we would like it to be
3.1 Bottle, batch 1080-c. Pours black, with a big creamy mocha head. Aroma is dark roasted malts with coffee and cocoa, as well as some burned wood. Medium body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is roasted malts with bread, notes of cocoa and dark fruits, as well as some earthy, astringent berry notes.
2.8 Black with no head. Very thick, like syrup, when pouring. Plenty of sediments. Aroma of biscuits, berries and malt. Weak taste of chocolate, coffee, perhaps caramel. Very little complexity, short aftertaste. Not impressed.
3.9 If you expect a smooth bold stout, you will not expect the soury aspect this one has. It is a very drinkable one, creamy, little bit sour red fruits, light roasted malts, nice malty aftertaste. A special light beautiful stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy (iOs)
3.2 Pours a beautiful dark thick body with a golden white lacing, looks truly delicious. Aroma of biscuits, chocolate, porridge, nuts and raspberry cheesecake. Weak taste of coffee, caramel, wet dog and butch. Looks better than it tastes. A bit boring, but would probably be a decent food beer.
3.5 In the aroma tones of dark chocolate, berry, "a leather belt," hints of biscuits. In the taste of smoked zhzhenost, solid berry acidity, a little fruit. The aftertaste zhzhenost becomes tastier, but too quickly lost, leaving only the sweet-and-drag on the sweetness.
3.5 0,5 bottle. The aroma is smoked malt. The taste is medium bitter with dark chocolate, roasted malt, oat and some liqourice. Pretty good for a 4.7 beer.
3.0 A great looking beer, but lacks character in aroma and flavour. A session stout, but nothing more.
3.4 Bottle. Opaque black color with brown head. Aroma has malt, chocolate, roasted malt. Taste malty sweet with quite long sweet aftertaste. Flavors of malt, coffee, chocolate and some syrup.
3.2 Dark brown to black appearance with a nice brown head. Aroma is dark roasted malt, chocolate, cereal like and freshly ground oats. Nice coffee and dark chocolate aromas with some bitterness in the taste. The taste is quite smooth with lots of roasted malt character, some coffee and nuts in the background with a slightly bitter after-taste. Tobacco and smoke with some burnt notes, unfortunately the body of this beer is quite weak.
4.0 Batch #1353, bottle. Nice hizz at he opening, foam is high in the bottle neck, but not "over the top". OK, this turned out to BE a bit over the top carbonated, but as expected the foam died down pretty fast in the glass. (Patience You must have, young padowan). It’s black, and it’s foamy, tan to light brown mocca coloured head. Aroma is dark, bitter chocolate, cocoa and coffee up front.. Same flavours in the taste, along with the quite heavy carbonation. I would say it’ has sweet dry bubbling mouthfeel. Not one of their best Outmeal Stout batches, so this rating may be a little unfair.
3.4 Bottle from the brewery. Black color and a dark beige, large and fizzy head. Dry roasted and fruity aroma with chocolate, coffee, plums, red fruits, lactose, oats. Highly carbonated with a medium body. Flavor is roasted with coffee, dark chocolate, ash, plums, oats, lactose. Background grassiness and herbs.
3.0 Aroma: ristet malt, kaffe. Lavt skum. God smak med brente toner. Kaffe. Smaken gir seg for fort. For tynn.
2.9 Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’ place. Thanks Stas & Max. Black with a tan ring. A little black pepper, phenol and some sweet oatmeal aroma, a little bitter, metallic and a little alcoholic taste. Medium body, roasty, soft carbonation and metallic finish.
3.1 Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Stas & Max. Black with a tan head. Aroma is a bit sourish, with roast, coffee, a fruity touch and yeast. Roasty flavor, dry, sourish, with coffee, a bit of fruitiness, a bit of bread, and a bitterish finish. Medium-bodied.
3.7 Bottle. Really black, with dirty-brown foam. Aroma: roasted barley and malt, coffee, a little plum. Taste: velvety, good body, slightly sweet caramel, coffee, roasted, pleasant stout.
3.8 the aroma is caramel and chocolate with hints of coffee, vanilla and some spices... the taste is light, caramel and chocolate with notes of toast, dark fruits, toffee, vanilla and coffee... sweet and dry aftertaste...
4.0 Bottle (50cl): Served in a shaker: Pitch black beer with a small brown head. Aromas of tar, smoke, ash, roast, light liquorice, light oat, some chocolate. Flavours of chocolate, sweet roast, bitters, light oat, light ash, hint of coal and some smoke. Aftertaste is light smokey, chocolate, some malts and herbal roast... Low carbo, spicy light watery mouthfeel, medium bodied. Well done for 4.5% ABV!

Aroma: dried fruits, mocha, cocoa powder, dusty, caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: caramel, raisins, mocha, dark chocolate, bit sourish, hoppy touch. CONCLUSION : bière agréable, mais sans force réelle. Par contre, les touches gustatives très particulières et bien typées permettent certainement de faire quelque chose d’intéressant en food pairing… Avis aux amateurs de fourneau !!
