Nøgne Ø Imperial Stout

Nøgne Ø Imperial Stout

We think the Russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, roasted barley, oat, black, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Crystal hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23°P,75 IBU, 9% ABV.

Imperial Stout fra Nøgne Ø er en tett og helt svart ale med stor fyldighet. Smaken domineres av kaffe, sjokolade, lær og tørket frukt. Vi synes den passer bra til mørk sjokolade og kraftige desserter.

4.1 nice dark stout
4.0 Bottle 500ml at home. From Alko. Bottled 2020-12-16. Batch 2458. Pours black with beige head. Flavor has roasted malts, oat, licorice, dark chocolate. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation, roasted finish. Original rating 9-4-8-4-16 from bottle (#487) at Ruovesi 2010-07-22.
4.0 Black with big foamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, hops and hint of grapefruits. Taste is firstly sweet but then it turns to very roasty, hoppy flavor with coffee and chocolate. Finishes with long lasting bitter. Full body, average carbonation. Rich, big, dark and tasteful stout.
3.9 How: bottle. BB: 25.11.24 Head: tan, two fingers. Colour: almost opaque black. Aroma: campfire, dark fruits, herbal, coffee, dark sugar, clean& simple yet rich. Taste: medium to full body, low carbonation, dark fruits, coffee, campfire, a bit ash, herbal bitterness, a bit warm. Long aftertaste follows taste.
4.2 寒流午夜單喝。酒花氣味。高比例巧克力苦味。很低的甜度。9% 裝瓶兩年半。太烈,易膩。01.08.2021
4.5 01-01-2021; bottle; at the Swedish house (bought online at www.drankgigant.nl, Oost-Souburg, The Netherlands). The beer looks very nice. It is a good dark Imperial Stout. The beer has a very nice color. It is a nice dark ruby red/brown, almost black on the eye. On top there is a nice layer of soft almond colored foam. Foam retention is average. It looks very nice. The aroma of the beer is great. It has nice malty aroma, filled with toasty and toasty chocolate and coffee, some nice caramel. Hops have nice earthy notes, with some nice herbal notes. There are some tobacco notes, some nice vanilla, some oak. It is quite nice. There is a nice alcohol aroma too, bringing all other aromas together. The taste of the beer is nice. Sweet malts, bitter hops, bitter roast, savory toast. All tastes are strong. It is very well balanced. The palate of the beer is nice too. Full body, smooth texture and medium-low carbonation. The finish of the beer is lovely. Full of chocolate and vanilla, coffee and roast. It is nice and long, fading away only slowly. All in all, a lovely beer. Great work.
5.0 Charcuterie pairing: Aged Old Amsterdam Cheese and Blood Pudding Meal: Beef and Guinness (or Nogne!) Pie, Kansas City spare ribs Dessert (special): Madagascar vanilla ice cream This beer is from one of my absolute FAVORITE  breweries. Located in Grimstad, Norway, the guys at Nogne hit it out of the park with this stout. Not known as a place with beer culture, this brewery rewrites those rules and I am hard pressed to find one the top to bottom has as an impressive offering. Stout are typically an English / Irish game, but I would put this up against any other I've had. The beer carries a creamy and full body and impresses through all phases of the palate. The ample chocolate and coffee notes are perfectly measured to act distinct flavor that doesn't take away from the fact that you are still drinking a beer. The taste left in your mouth after the finish calls for more. The only reason I can have one of these is the ample size of the bottle (half-liter) and the high ABV. This beer pairs well with a strong, hearty meal (preferably a red meat), with dessert or as a dessert by itself.
4.2 Pours black with brown creamy top. Nose is bourbon and licorice. Taste is whiskey, a lot of dark chocolate, coffee and english licorice. Nice mouthfeeling and carbondioxid. K
4.0 50cl bottle at home. Pours pitch black with big fluffy beige head. Beautiful. This is a textbook imperial stout, very middle of the road but in a good way. All classic elements are there; chocolate, coffee, hints of caramel and slightly toasted. Well balanced, very drinkable, certainly not boring.
4.2 I have purchased this bottle, at Amstein, St-Légier. Drinking and enjoying this generous bottle with my wife, a couple of days ago, at home, at Epalinges. The body is black and opaque, something classic with an average carbonation, thin brown foam. Personally, this imperial stout is almost perfect. The taste and the beverage is well balanced, syrupy with notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, cacao, little touch of cherry, little side of liquorice, perfect note of hop at the final, I could say that it is a light imperial stout at 9%, alcohol well hidden, to try again with pleasure.
4.1 APARÊNCIA preto, opaco. creme marrom claro de média formação e duração. AROMA café, chocolate amargo, groselha, malte torrado e leve defumado. SABOR baunilha, cacau, café expresso, frutas escuras e melaço. SENSAÇÃO corpo alto e baixa carbonatação.
4.2 Bottle 0.5L Hazy black body with an average, creamy, tan head, mostly lasting with some nice lacing. Moderate malty (roasted, burnt) with notes of raisins, coffee, chocolate and maybe some nuts. Moderate sweet and bitter flavour; long-lasting bitter finish. Medium-to-full body with creamy texture; average carbonation; light alcoholic warming in the finish. Nice and interesting one.
Superbe !
3.9 Pours black with one finger, tan head. Aroma is cocoa, molasses, vanilla and roast. Taste is chocolate and brown sugar, moving to roast and vanilla. Finish is vanilla, chocolate and brown sugar. Good stout.
4.6 Pours oily black and tan. Milk choc on the nose is inviting. Nice mouth feel to start with, smooth. Lots of chocolate, vanilla but an undertone of dates and raisins. Medium length finish with some alcohol warmth but a point or two knocked off for some sweet clagginess on the finish.
4.3 330 ml bottle. A mighty brew with creamy mouthfeel, rich of flavour from chocolate, espresso, light roast and vanilla. Rather sweet at first glance, but not persistent due to well balanced bitterness. Great one!
3.6 Zwart bier met een beperkte Mokka schuimkraag. Geroosterde koffie, zwarte chocolade. Niet zoet, bittere afdronk
3.7 Popiołowe, delikatnie aż dymne jakby torfowe. Ciała mało, dużo espresso, jakieś owocki. Wytawny finisz, % trochę grzeją. No przyzwoicie.
4.0 [Tasting - Beder] Aroma: Moderate sweet, roasted malts, chocolate and a hint of coffee Appearance: Pitch black with a fast-disappearing small brown head Taste: Moderate sweet and moderately bitter, roasted malts and chocolate ending in a coffee bitterness Mouthfeel: Creamy texture with soft-no carbonation Overall: Enjoyable Imperial Stout :)
5.0 Dark beer with creamy brown head. Very good combination with chocolate filling and roasted malt bitterness. Very good
4.0 Bottle from Cunningham as part of Eu local swap 3/2019, thanks. Malty aroma and taste, chocolate, cocoa, light coffee, roasty notes, medium bitter, light sweet notes. Full body, malty chocolate bitter sweet finish with vanilla and light warming alcohol notes. Good.
4.1 I spotted this bottle from Nogne O when leaving Bergen on our trip home this summer. Likely my first Norwegian imperial stout, let us see how they do it. I see on the label that the .5 liter bottle was filled on February 13 of this year. The glass is a snifter, no particular reason. A regal black in color, viscous, with a spindly circle of eggshell brown foam. A good start with the smell, dark chocolate, wheat and perhaps some tobacco. And the drink speaks. Bakers chocolate, malt, smoke, cereal and a bit of hard candy. Good but not inspired.
3.8 Bottle. 2011 version, drunk a bit old. Pours ink black with small dark tan head that laces heavily. Aromas of rich dark chocolate and cherries, with earthy notes, grog and whiskey. Initial brightness of cherries and raspberries, moves in sweet marzipan and then a deeply satisfying, complex dark chocolate, hazelnut, espresso and grog. Smooth, rich and full bodied.
4.3 Todella pehmee. Ei minkäänlaista alkoholia.
4.2 Sysitumma lasissa jättäen isohkon beigen vaahdon. Tuoksu on paahteisen maltainen, kahvinen ja pehmeän laktoosinen. Suutuntuma on runsas ja tasapainoinen. Mausta löytyy edelleen kahvisuutta, lakritsia ja kauran tuomaa hienoa pehmeyttä.
5.0 Absolute quality, very good Imperial Stout. Ages well and becomes more and more flavourfull
3.5 Dark color, middle foam size. Good beer, aroma and taste fit into the style.
3.9 2019/05/11 - Pours jet black with a foamy, light tan head that slowly reduces and leaves no lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate, toasted malts, coffee, toffee, vanilla, ash, licorice and hints of soy. Taste is toasted malt, ash, smoke, dark chocolate, light toffee, vegetal chili notes and hints of vanilla. Mouthfeel is medium and oily with smooth carbonation and a drying, toasty finish.
4.3 Bottle bottled December 2015, pouring black color with tan head. Deep aroma of quite roasted malts, dark coffee, licorice, caramel, dark fruitiness and hops in the back but still strong, and some slight alcohol. Medium body, really well balanced with smooth and deep taste. Moderately bitter thoroughly, hops are there well but it's still a coffee and roasted malts imperial stout first.
4.4 Pours as a pitch black stout with nice and firm caramel colored head. Aroma is very strong, roasted malts, coffee licorice and alcohol. Taste is roasted dark malt, alcohol, rum, coffee, dark chocolate, licorice and vhas some vanilla tones. Nice and full mouthfeel. Supurb beer.
