This Imperial Stout has spent one year in oak casks which were previously used for aging Cognac. We think that this has given it a couple of new dimensions, and hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do!

3.7Pitch black, no head. Delicate barrel aromas backed by dark cocoa notes with some tar. Almost full body, fruity, dark chocolate with figs, some cognac in the finale to warm everything up. Delicate barrel treatment, palate is a bit thin for the style, but very good impy stout nonetheless.
3.8(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 3 Oct 2014) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, black coffee and a touch of oak wood. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, cacao, oak wood, gentle flavours of cognac and a solid coffee bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with just a touch of sweetness (drier than expected). Solid and well made imperial stout, with a gentle cognac character in the background. Very nice.
3.9Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty woody cognac chocolate aroma. Roasted malty woody chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty woody cognac chocolate finish.
3.8Not a bad brew at all, some complexity inside, the cask bites harder as expected.
3.9Pitch black. No head. Chocolate aroma and taste. Roasted aftertaste. Wood comes through enough.
4.6Bottle @ tasting. Many thanks, tomschijns! Oily black colour, dark brown foam. Syrupy texture. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee, chocolate and warming alcoholic finish. Very well blend with the cognac. Fantastic stout!
3.9Bottle looks simple but really good. Beer in the glass dark black, nice head. Starts heavy malty, stouty, earthy-malty. Notes of coffee and bitter chocolate. Warming-alcoholic. Intense malty finish. A good one!
4.0Bottle at Craig’s. Pours black, nose is chocolate, liquorice, fruity, taste is sweet, rich and a lot of booze.
4.0Bottle from Cuso - thank you so much, Imro! The beer pours out in a deep black colour with low head and smooth body. Aroma of dried fruits, malt and strong alcohol. Wonderful taste of prunes, chocolate, barley, malt, torf, wood, oak, dried fruits and plums. Finish of dark plums and barley. Great beer.
3.9Thick piwo with a big loads of plums and other ripe fruits. In the end there is some big alcohol and roasted malt. High quality brew with a balanced end.
3.8250ml bottle with best before date of 17/7/17. A short lasting small sized coffee coloured head crowns an opaque black body. Notes of burnt sugar, caramel, booze, dark chocolate, coffee beans, and dried dark fruits on the nose. Palate is thick and smooth with soft carbonation and bittersweet flavours with an alcoholic burn and faint dry smokiness to the finish. One for slow after dinner contemplation.
4.2Bottle. Very black, almost no head. Complex aroma, mostly reminiscent of a sweet big stout. Thick mouthfeel, little/low carbonation. Lots of flavors here, and a very long aftertaste. Everything from strawberries to soy sauce is present here, and I find it difficult to put my finger on specific flavors. But let’s try: chocolate, coffee, soy sauce, wood, roasted nuts, smoked meat... and more. Delicious.
3.928/II/14 - 25cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home - BB: 17/VII/17 (2014-227) Thanks to Klaas for sharing the bottle!
Note: tasted side by side with the regular version.
Pitch black beer, small creamy beige to brown head, little stable, dissipates quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet, lots of chocolate, mocha, caramel, dried fruits, cocoa powder, roasted stuff, sweet touch. MF: soft to no carbon, full body. Taste: sweet start, bit sourish, fruity, red fruits, berries, cognac, some alcohol, mocha, some coffee. Aftertaste: hoppy touch, sweet caramel, cocoa powder, dried fruits, mocha, coffee, sugary touch. I prefer the regular version.
4.0Drack den i December 2013, Flaska, Bishop Helsingborg. Poängen var uppskrivet men resten av texten är borta. Får dricka om den vid senare tillfälle för noggrannare analys haha ;)
4.0250 ML bottle
Kept the best aspects of the Imperial stout. Lots of roast and chocolate, quite dry and oily and added the dimension of oak and subtle notes of cognac. Much bigger than the 9% leads on. Full on beer
4.1Bottle shared at home with SuBarbare. Color: deep dark beer with high viscosity no carbonation and small brown head. Smell: high malt control with cognac and barrel (wood) notes. Sugar and caramel. Taste: high viscosity on mouth with malt and brown sugar taste. Aftertaste: alcohol taste with malt and rye brown.
3.5small beige head disappears quickly. coffee coloured. aroma roasted malts, boozy. taste like aroma and very bitter finish, roasted malts, coffee, bitter chocolate. thick mouthfeel, medium carbonation. bottle 25 cl
4.2Det här kraftigt, det här smakfullt, det här är svart, det här är riktigt bra med toner av choklad, syra och kaffe.
3.8Had this back at Hotel Adina Apartments, Mitte, Berlin, Germany, Friday 15th November 2013 Black as the Ace of Spades with a tan head, thick oily consistency though doesn’t stick to the glass like many of this style. The barrel ageing immediately apparent on the nose, but pleasant not overpowering. In the mouth this is a big impressive Imperial Stout but it isn’t heavy, cloying, sickly or sweet indeed it is actually a really intriguing beer. Goes well with a Blacks almond chocolate btw. Roasty, rich and with a little sweet liquorice some bitterness lingering and the barrel ageing leaving its thumbprint. A little boozy spirit does show as you get further into this, mhhh.. its a complex beer but I like it. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8
4.20.25 L bottle (how cute!), served cold (initially) in a tulip glass.
App.: Deep brown black with a modest deep mocha head.
Aroma: Boozy, somewhat woody molasses and licorice with some vanilla undertones, peppery, stern spiciness, berry-like fruitiness, very sweet, deep, big, rich.
Palate: Medium-full body, velvety/thick effervescence with a few prickly bubbles.
Flav.: Very rich and deep molasses and licorice, some barrel/wood and vanilla, fairly boozy, dark dried fruits steeped in dark rum, a little peppery, briny, massive; sweet with big bitterness and a very long, mouth-coating, boozy, licorice, briny, inky finish.
So big. So good. Thankfully the bottle small, because I could drink this until I was blind.
4.2My Bottom Line :
Cognac vapors roam through vanilla, roastiness, molasses and raisins, building a rich and intriguing Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A veil of foam dwindles to a ring atop the pure darkness.
-The aroma is led by the cognac barrel. I would have preferred more malt presence there as well (which the flavor profile had).
-The mouthfeel is decadent and the flavor profile delicious. Gorgeous brew, yessir!
-Malts are clearly defined, complexity is reached with the added cognac alcohol warmth and the flavor cohesion is impressive.
-I am hallucinating a touch of peat smoked malt in there. Fun stuff. ;)
Bottle.
3.8Bottle, thanks to Ben for this rarity! Pours opaque black with a large dark brown head, creamy with nice lacing. So far, so good! Aroma is very roasty, coffee, cigarettes, just a touch of cognac/brandy. Flavor is the same, medium sweet and medium bitter with a bitter finish. Cognac notes very muted, too muted really. Medium plus body, creamy mouthfeel. Not what I was hoping for.
2.6Strong alcohol odor. The taste is heavy and tastes even more alcohol. I really loved the usual Imperial Stout, but this has only made the beer worse. Thick flavor too. Long aftertaste that is not good unfortunately. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
4.5Bottle from Pivoteka Beergeek, Prague. Almost black color with minimal beige head. Flat, no carbonation. Aroma of dark chocolate, plums, ash, oak, cognac. rasted taste with espresso, dark chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, salted licorice, raisins, ash, caramel, dry hoppy bitterness, oak, notes of cognac. Alcohol is evident, but in pleasant warming way. Very delicious beer for bleak autumn days.
(Rating #5085)
4.5250 ml bottle. Pours black with no head. Aromas of rich woody malts, brown sugar, and liquorice. Flavours are similar but even richer. Smooth cognac adding complexity and balance. Hot - more than one would expect for the ABV. But incredible,
3.9Dead computer = lame phone review. N: candy, apple, weak molasses, grape juice, stellar succulent roast, admitting that the beer has been in my glass for 3hrs. T: bitter yummiest, sweet yet stiff roast - very malty. Rich, smooth, light pepper like burn, pungent plum, other hard roared things. Very good 3 hrs ago and very good now. Thanks to someone for this beer.
3.8250 ml bottle from IPB.
Appearance : Pitch black with very small head that is very short lived.
Aroma : Roasted malt with some tar and ashed. Strong spirit notes with hints of dark fruits and light spirit sweetness. Light piny hops. light smoke.
Taste : Roasted malt with piny hops. Big coffee with light dark (very dark like over 90% cacao) chocolate. Finish persistent and fairly warming. Big cacao notes with coffee and hops.
Palate : Fairly soft carbonation. Warm palate with medium sweetness.
Overall : Quite interesting. Maybe a bit strong on the spirit notes. Nice malt complexity with great cacao and coffee notes. Finish is a bit warm. Great but I think it would have been improved if blended with a bit of the regular stout to bring down the spirit barrel notes to a more balanced level.
