Nøgne Ø Lemongrass (Aku Aku Lemongrass Ale)

Nøgne Ø Lemongrass (Aku Aku Lemongrass Ale)

Editor’s note: Originally a special brew made for Aku Aku Tiki Bar in Oslo, but some kegs found their way to other pubs as well. Later on changed name to Lemongrass as Aku Aku Tiki Bar quit buying it.

3.1 Clear medium amber body with a creamy, off-white head with a bit longer than average lifetime, good lacing. The aroma is strong, but I actually don’t pick up the lemongrass. Instead I get lots of similar notes, like citrus (including lemon, that’s pretty close to lemongrass) and herbs, especially lemon balm (even closer!). Also a good amount of light generic fruity notes and pale malts. The flavour is also very lemony, again I get both lemon and lemon balm, and the lemongrass just gives a generic Asian touch. It also feels somewhat old, maybe the lemongrass doesn’t age that well? Finally there’s a firm malty background with caramel. The taste is light to moderate sweet and the average-lasting finish is light to moderate bitter. It’s a fairly light-bodied brew, a bit watery with a dry finish and lots of carbonation. Decent+. [50 cl bottle, batch 1189, enjoyed 4 months before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Online]
3.0 25.04.2015. 0,5l Bottle. Vinmonopolet Haugesund. Pale golden yellow colour with white head. Aroma of lemon and malt. Flavours is the same, lemon and malt. Dry beer that leaves a dry mouth. Ripe apples and orange peel. MOderate good body. Soft and tender.
3.1 On tap at Amundsen, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Nose brings out very light lemongrass and floral notes. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of floral lemongrass. Soft palate and nicely balanced. Solid.
3.0 The lemongrass is very present in the aroma and taste of the beer and gives the beer a unique refreshing taste. The beer doesn’t have a lot of depth though and tastes quite boring. Good for a hot summer day, but nog very special.
3.8 Hazy pale, pale yellow color. Mildly herbal note. Very soft, gentle flavor profile. The lemongrass is easily perceptible but not overwhelming. Very easy to drink. Clean finish and aftertaste.
3.4 on tap oro velata scorza limone media secchezza nota pepata luppolatura non molto intensa
3.9 the aroma of lemon, grapefruit, tropical fruits and spicy grasses... the taste is malty with notes of lemongrass, citrus, tropical fruits, herbs and spices... very smooth hopping... sweet and bitter spicy aftertaste...
3.4 Golden clear with a monstrously big head that sticks around fairly well. Aroma and taste are strong in lemongrass before receding into normal ale territory. Refreshing, but I want more after that lovely first whiff.
3.3 How: Bottle Appearance: Golden, small white head. Aroma: floral, lemon, spice, herbs, grass. Palate: Medium to thin body, smooth carbonation.
2.9 Pleasant aroma, taste soft, feels lemongrass, herbs. More like a ice tea. Not my beer
3.1 Nawet spoko piwo. Psuje je jedynie aromat - z jednej strony trawa cytrynową, a z drugiej "mokra szmata". W smaku jest już dużo lepiej - rześko i przyjemnie.
2.7 Bottle, 50 cl. Both aroma and taste have a strong hint of lemongrass. Refreshing, but underneath is an ordinary pale ale, so the overall taste experience is not as exciting as expected. Good for warm summer nights. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
Kort
2.8 Old rating rerated 26.08.2014, 0,5l bottle @ home: Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly grainy, hay, wet grain, boiled potatoes, weeds, grass, moss, leafs, hints of citrus. Taste is slightly dry, weeds, minerals, flowers, hay, old cellar, wet grain, moss, boiled potatoes, hints of citrus. Medium bitterness, grainy mouthfeel. Fair enough, used to be better...
3.3 Noe uklar lys gul farve med tynt lyst skum. Lukt av lemon, lemongrass og humle. Smak av lemon, lemongrass, hume og krydder. Friskt og lettdrukket. Vinmonopolet.
3.9 Bottle. Amber color, quickly fading white head. Citrus nose, lemonpeel, ginger, honey, hint of cherries and spice. Citrus taste, pepper, yeast. Medium body, soft carbonation. Fresh and tasteful.
3.3 On tap at Czeska baszta in Warsaw. Malty and lemon aroma. Taste is a bit sour , also some grassy notes with light bitterness. Easy body, drinkable, good one after run training or bad day.
3.7 Cool that Brewberry brought this key-only beer to the festival. Poured a very good looking light golden with stable white head. Not so much lemongrass per se, but the lemony and light floral aroma are very refreshing and are certianly summery. Fairly dry body, well developed and a bit tea like. Nice medium palate and carbonation. Not bad at all! (On tap at the Paris International Beer Celebration festival during the 1FRBG)
3.2 4oz pour at Churchkey’s Nogne O Tap Takeover. Pours a hazy orange with some spitty white head. Nose is heavy lemongrass, heavy soap, some stale malt, lime. Flavor is the same, huge lemongrass, lime, malt, orange. Tropical all the way through. Finishes a little prickly.
3.7 Draft at Churchkey for a meet the brewer event. Poured a hazy copper color with a large white head. Aroma was lemongrass notes, lots of lemongrass, lemongrass, did I mention lemongrass? Anyway... there’s a nice herbal note to this one, some light spice. Light sweet malts.
Yellow, some haze. Fruity lemongrassy nose with some caramel. Dry bitter, bit sharp, body. Really like the lomegrassy lime citrus, but everything else’s a bit out of balance. Totally drinkable though, just a bit too bitter dry for me.
3.9 The beer has got a deep golden colour -light hazy- with steady head and smooth body. Nice aroma of lemon and spices. Taste of intense citrus, leaves, fresh hops, nuts and spices. Very quaffable and easy to drink - enjoyed it a lot.
3.2 Tap at Gallow’s Bird, Espoo. Colour is slightly cloudy golden with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Fruits, citrus, lemon, hops and some malts. Quite different fruity profile.
2.7 Unclear golden. Shortlived head. Aroma of lemon and dishwashing soap. Taste of lemon and lemon grass. Decent balance and aftertaste.
3.8 On tap at Henrik in Bergen. Starts slightly sweet, lightly hopped. LIght, dry finish. Lemongrass gives it a very refreshing finish. Very drinkable. Golden color.
3.7 On tap at CBC 2012. Beer in the glass deep golden, nice head. Hoppy aroma with lemon notes. Starts mild-malty, more and more dry. Fine fruity like lemon. Some salty hints in the finish. Quite drinkable. Nice!
3.0 Draught at The Rover, Göteborg, on June 7, 2013. Hazy copper color, nice fluffy Santa’s hat style off-white to tan head. Sweet, herbal, spicy, thin taste. Thin mouthfeel, low bitterness. Sweet, malty scent.
