This beer is the culmination of over 30 years of brewing by our Brewmaster, Peter ‘Hopzilla’ Caddoo. Created at our Tchoupitoulas Street brewery, our India Pale Ale was hand crafted with six malts and six hops. This big, beautiful beer is dry hopped with Amarillo and Simcoe hops to accentuate aromas of citrus and pine. Grab a Hopitoulas and taste the passion and dedication that has gone into this brew.

4.0Hopitoulas NOLA Brewing - Walking around Garden District/Irish Channel neighborhoods, not wanting to pee outdoors we come upon Pete’s Out in the Cold Bar. Not more than a few blocks from the brewery, they could distribute via pedicab if necessary. Great conversation with bartender, Houston connection with Melody. Six hops and some acidulated malt, i suspect to enhance some of the hops rather than give a sour flavor. Unique and spicy, flavorful, tropical, very complex hop profile. Enough to overpower the years of smoke and funk in this landmark bar. This is like putting a modern, highly customized perfume on an old hooker, resulting in an aromatic delight in the absence of light, adding ten more years to her working life. It’s still wet inside, smells sensational, and makes you feel great. I’d definitely come back for more!

3.3From tap. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is grapefruity and slight citrusy. Bitter, smooth fruity. Crisp hoppy. Bitter and lingering fruity finish. Crisp fruity finish.
3.3Some pine and some light citrus. Ok, but subdued hops like you have a weight on your ankle. Bitter finish. Tall can thanks to Maigua.
2.6Pours a hazed copper with a messy, oily white head. Nose is subdued citrus, some pine and grain. Some zest on the tongue, something is out of whack though, an imbalance, cracker, strange clotting bitterness. Reminds me of a chain brew pub IPA.
3.816oz can. Pours clear dark copper in color. Aroma of floral, pine, citrus. Flavor of pine, pineapple, tangerine, lemon peel, spruce, jasmine. This IPA has a lot of complexity with a malty backbone yet showing the citrus and piney bitterness later. I like it.
3.3On tap at Pere Antoine’s in the French Quarter. Pours a clear golden/orange with small white head that leaves practically no lacing. Aroma has citrus and peach with a hint of roasted malts. Taste is bitter but not noticeably so. Body is light to medium with average carbonation. OK but not very memorable.
3.5Burk köpt i Tennessee. Disigt, mörk bärnsten med smutsvit skumkrona. Doft av rostad malt, knäck och ananas. Halvsöt, besk och lätt bränd kropp. Smak av ananas, knäck, bränt socker och gräs.
3.9DATE: May 29th, 2017... OCCASION: Day two of the Quiz Bowl tournament, and we struggled against some strong competition... that calls for a strong beer...GLASSWARE: nondescript pint... brown amber body that releases little effervescence, but lifts dirty white head into arcs of lacing... medium-bodied, crunchy in the teeth, and formidable at 6.5%... chewy, worthwhile... on first sniff, mango and grapefruit combine with rye bread; thick and doughy, though the spicy hoppiness bites back... pepper, pine and resin in equal amounts--quite inviting... peach, mango and grapefruit make for a pleasant, worthwhile IPA that balances its bread malts in equal measure... love the name, having walked its somewhat altered street name twice now... a bit dry, as the glass drains...
3.416oz can. This one pours a cloudy, orange hued golden color. There was a small off white head that left minimal lacing. Lighter aroma. Some pine, citrus and earthy notes. The taste is good. Not much bitterness. Pine, citrus, earthy hops. Faint flavor of roasted malts. Good!
3.6Draft at the Ole Saint Kitchen & Tap. Light hazy, golden to orange appearance with a fluffy beige head. Aroma of piney hops, floral notes, zesty hops, light resin and light malts. Similar flavor, adding medium hop bitterness and a light grainy sweetness. Medium body with a clean feel and a smooth finish.
2.7Tap at taproom. Clear orange color, small steady white head and lace. Light citrus in the nose. Medium-bodied. Some roped fruityness, some citrus. Quite watery and easy for its abv.
3.416oz can in New Orleans. Solid IPA - piney with nice hop to citrus balance. Nice
3.5From a can. Well made example of the style, some citrus and pine going on, very drinkable.
3.6Tap - average size foamy head, medium copper color, good size citrus & pine hop aroma and flavor, moderate bready malt backbone, good resiny hop finish, pretty good overall
3.7Strong pine aroma. Not overpowering on the hops, slightly watery making it a very refreshing IPA
3.2Can - Pint. Pours hazy orange, big soapy head. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, citrus peel. Bite of hops in the front (grapefruit, grass, flowers), Sour dough bread. Good bitter finish.
3.716 ounce can. Pours an amber orange color. Moderate foamy beige head. Big citrusy pine needle nose. Flavor offers more pine and citrus, but not overdone. Bittersweet toasted malt and grapefruit peel. Smooth as IPA’s go. Nice alternative to the standard fare around town in the Big Easy.
3.3Can (16 oz). Ours copper color with thick white head that dissipates quickly; substantial lacing. Citrus and pine aroma. Grapefruit with caramel notes. Pine in the finish. Body is a little thin.
3.4Part of a flight at NOLA taproom. My favorite of the flight. Great tasting ipa. Lots of hops.
2.4Location: Pint on tap at Felix’s Oyster House
Appearance: Lighter amber slightly hazy. Big fluffy white head
Nose: Mostly lightly roasted malt. Slight bitter hops.
Taste: lightly sweet malt on the front. Finishes with good bitters
Body: lighter and fluid
Parting thoughts: I had no idea this was an IPA, until after I drank it. I was assuming it was a pilsner or some English style bitter. Not a typical IPA at all. So, other than that, it was underwhelming and forgettable.
3.5IPA
Tapped out amber. 12ºSRM.
Nose is beery, maybe a bit of pine on second approach. Nose has a very beery character, way too much and without the herbaceous or citrus aromas one might expect of an IPA.
Mouthfeel is thin soapy. Palate has sweet toasty malty flavors of graham cracker, honey and maybe taffy or candy. Hops are bitter with pine, grass and in the front part of the palate orange peel which then fades into a pronounced bitter of pine, pine sap and a bit of resinous sticky finish.
Finish is medium with bitter and herbaceous flavors on the back palate. It does finish clean.
Barely makes it to faves, but It did make enough of a positive impression with the full malt body, and the nice hop balance to make it. Probably the weirdest IPA to make it to the list. Really almost like an aggressively hopped lager, like an IPL.
Goes on Favorites List!
3.3Pours a medium golden amber color. Aromas of citrus and fruit. Flavor is a big hop presence with subtle tastes of fruit and vegetables, then more hops.
3.0Pilsener like with Some hop aroma and taste. Not really what you expect of an ipa.
2.3Draft. Pours murky yellow orange with thin white head that resides along the glass rim. Dull hop aroma over medium carbonation. It's mildly hoppy with a wheat zest backbone. Really not my thing.
3.7Can. Moderate roasted grain for the malt, moderate pine and orange rind for the hops, light soap for the yeast, with light dried fruit in the background. Head is average size, frothy, white with excellent lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is sparkling clear light amber/orange. Flavor starts slightly sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, slick with a soft to lively carbonation. A well balanced and easy drinking IPA
3.7Deliciously smooth ipa! Lovely golden pour w/ a white head & outstanding lacing. The aroma is primarily soft citrus notes. The taste is slightly bitter but nicely balanced by the citrusy flavors. It is pleasant on the palate & overall a very good ipa!
3.6(En fût à la brasserie): Un profil malté assez fruité laisse tout de même des houblons verts et épicés se distinguer. Très bon sans être mémorable.
3.0Malty aroma. Darker color and medium cloudiness. Very smooth start and finish
4.216 ounce can pour at the Hard Rock in Biloxi. I really enjoyed this beer. Just the right amount of hoppiness and bitterness. Give this a try if you get a chance.
