Nørrebro Skärgaards Porter

Nørrebro Skärgaards Porter

An authentic Porter at 6% ABV. The name refers to this being the second Nordic guest brew, that is developed together with Lasse Ericsson from Nynäshamn Ångbryggeri, south of Stockholm. The beer is top fermented and added honey before the fermentation, which results in a soft and creamy coffee black porter with a soft aroma of chocolate, coffee, and nuts. The flavor is dry, light, and elegant with notes of liquorice and dried fruits. The bitterness is low and the harmonious aftertaste is dominated by liquorice.

3.1 pours jet black with beige head, the aroma is chocolate and soy sauce. the taste is caramel and coffee, quite tasty.
3.6 Bottle. Dark brown pour, light tan head. Chocolate, roasted malt, licorice, and fruit. Somewhat dry. Fair porter, not outstanding.
3.8 Pours dark brown/black color with light brown head. Roasty aroma with chocolate and licorice. Flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, nuts and licorice with some sweet molasses. Medium to full body with minimal carbonation. A nice porter.
4.2 Very smooth dry porter with subtle complexity of chocolate, malts, nuts and coffee. A tad on the expensive side for what you’re getting, but worth drinking if you get a chance.
3.8 Bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium off white head. The aroma is moderately sweet dark malt, roast, mild coffee, hints of chocolate and dark fruit. The flavor is roasted malt, dark fruits, mild coffee and chocolate with some honey sweetness. The finish has moderate bitterness and some licorice. Medium bodied nice drinking porter.
3.7 Dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, licorice, coffee, and nuts. Flavor of coffee, chocolate, nuts, and a happy honey ending. Nice sweet aftertaste.
3.5 Black with a grey head. Nice sweet aroma of cocoa, caffe latte and walnuts. The flavour is sweet and nut-like with caffe latte notes and a nice dry bitter ending, like liquorice.
3.7 Sampled on 1/8/2010. This porter pours a dark brown color from a 600ml bottle. Small to medium sized tan head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee and honey. A medium bodied porter. The malts are chocolate and coffee. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice balance. Good carbonation. The touch of honey sweetness contrasts nicely with the roasty malts. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
4.3 Pours opaque black with generous head at first that disappears after several minutes of viewing. Nose has a roasty marshmallow quality, roasty but nougat-sweet. Dry chocolate cake. Palate has a coffee chocolate roastiness with some thick sweetness, and thick body as well. Very chewy and handsome. Finish is medium to long with a carbonation tingle and dry roastiness on the palate. Worth seeking out.
4.0 Very dark brown color with faint, tan head; aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, liquorice; mouthfeel is smooth and lowly carbonated; flavor adapting the nose, heavily dominated by liquorice and roasted malts; some hops appearing in the finish prevents the flavor going too sweet.
4.6 One of the best beers I’ve ever had. Gorgeous dark and complex appearance with a tan head. Fantastic aroma with notes of coffee and chocolate. Nutty chocolatey flavour. Texture was rich and creamy. If you like porters, you’ll love this one.
3.8 Bottle. If it weren’t for the price, I would have tried this MUCH earlier. Aromas are fantastic... they rise above the thin (yet dark) brown body and are detectable from a distance. Lots of roasty coffee malt, chocolate (dark) maybe a little prune-like dark fruit. Flavor is similar, and even though the mouthfeel is kind of watery, the flavor is pretty full and robust. It’s odd stuff and I find myself liking this, but wouldn’t pay the price for a second bottle. Maybe if it is on a 75% off sale or something...
4.0 Dark brown pour, nice creamy tan head. aroma has chocolate, coffee, roasted marshmallow and a bit of overripe fruit. Flavor is roasty and has nice chocolate and coffee notes. A bit of molasses too. Very good porter.
3.7 Pours black with ruby highlights and a thin tan head. Huge roast and chocolate flavor. Strong coffee, roasted barley and chocolate flavors. Medium body, soft carbonation, dry finish. Very nice.
3.7 Bottle. Medium sized fizzy tan head that mostly diminished, mostly opaque black body, one ring of lacing, and very little carbonation observed. The aroma is roasty, chocolate, coffee, some nuttiness, and malty. The flavor is malty, roasty, licorice, coffee, chocolate, some dark fruits, hint of bitterness, and a dry finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and this is a medium bodied porter. Overall, this is a very quaffable beer, I enjoyed the taste of it, worthy of a try, and a beer I would drink again.
3.4 Pours a very deep dark brown, almost black with only the faintest of mahogany edges when held to a light source. Completely opaque with a two finger frothy beige head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Roasted malt aroma with hints of chocolate, caramel, oatmeal, nut, toffee, toast, honey, molasses and subtle hops. The deep roasted scent is nicely balanced by the sweetness of the cocoa and honey. Smokey roasted malt flavor with hints of coffee, chocolate, toffee, oatmeal, hazelnut and toast. The sweetness of the honey, as well as the chocolate, provide a nice balance to the deep roasted malt profile. The mouthfeel is not as thick as I hoped with the addition of honey. It basically has the same feel as an average porter and it seems as if the honey has an affect just on the flavor, adding sweetness. Slight hop presence in the finish providing a very slight bitter dry finish. Well balanced and easy drinking with no trace of alcohol heat. Decent.
3.6 This dark brown porter poured with a foamy tan head and a roasted malt and coffee aroma. There is a rich malt flavor with lots of coffee and chocolate and a bit of treacle.
3.6 600 ml bottle. Finland. BB 25.08.09. Dark black/red brown colour with small tan head. Roasted malt, bitter hops, liquorice and coffee in aroma. Roasted malt, coffee, liquorice in flavour and some hoppy bitterness in aftertaste.
3.7 Poured dark brown/black, creamy, roasted malts, chocolate, nutty, little coffe, little licorice.
3.5 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy brown colored bubbles that were and left behind a semi-opaque typically carbonated dark ruby red brown colored body and thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was sweet. The mildly vinous smooth mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The mild flavor contained notes of mildly vinous dark malt and brown malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.
3.5 Bottle - Pours deep black with a huge bubbly tan head. Smells of licorice, honey, and lactose. It’s sweet and a bit boozy. Tastes smokier and roastier than it smells, and bitters nicely in the finish, but never really develops a personality. It’s more muddled than complex, though there are some interesting flavors in there. Feels good in the mouth, though the aftertaste of old coffee grounds leaves something to be desired.
3.4 as the morning unfolds i find more things to tell me i may have gone a bit crazy last night, why was my wallet in the freezer? why was there so much cash in it? why were my sandals under my pillow? what exactly caused the pain in my back on the lower right hand side? i can figure out why i had a bloody nose, but the rest is up for debate. but the good news, i apparently spent an asston on beer last night. i do not need to leave the house, and i have a local pizza joint in my contacts of my phone, and i know where my phone is, keys, no, phone, yes. oh yeah, this smells great. strong chocolate, sweet and inviting, burning coffee notes, chocolate flavor with a bit of a thin mouthfeel, and an aggressive roast note. starts to get to tasting like a burned twig after a while. the lack of body is a bit of a negative, a cashew flavor is in there and i like that, a decent enough porter to settle my thoughts during the first few innings of the cubs game. the head on this sucker sticks around til the end. chocolate emerges late, and gets a more nutting, but more burnt flavor also, smells like greatness, drinks pretty good. 5 9 6 2 12
3.2 Bottle at the GBBF Bar Sans Frontiers Earl’s Court, London 08/08/2007 Roast aroma. Dark and smoked with some alcohol present. A little dryness in a crisp burnt roast finish.
3.9 Bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours ruby, but it’s opaque brown in the glass. Head is sort of fizzy tan. Aroma has a strange veg note. Otherwise it’s chocolate, coffee and really dark roasted malt. Full bodied and creamy carbonated. This stuff is really full of flavor. Approaching old fashioned linoleum paste. Which is not a bad thing; sniffing that made me what I am today. Very smooth. Thick. Dried apricots and dates. Coffee. Chocolate. Label says brewed with honey. ??? Don’t get that. Suddenly it seems that anise dominates, then it doesn’t seem that way. Maybe anise was the strange veg aroma. This stuff is really complex, and I state that it is incredibly underrated. So there! By the way, was there a question as to whether flavor requires high ABV? This is the answer.
3.3 Bottle. Pours black with small amount of off tan head. Has nice medium flavours of roasted malt, coffee and nuts. Smooth mouthfeel and claan finsih. An easy drinking porter.
3.2 On tap at Nørrebro Bryghus. Pours dark brown with a small light brown head Aroma is caramel, nuts and coffee. Flavour is liquorice, coffee and weak notes of chocolate. Its a little watery on the palate.
3.7 Bottle from Keg Liquor. Poured clear black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate chocolate and roasted coffee aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium sweet creamy coffee flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew that I would recommend to a freind.
3.8 Pours and looks as one would expect. Tight, heathly head clings. Nose: first impression is wet metal and cold coffee. Upon a swirl the coffe warms and the steel disappears as soft coaco and dry honey spice exhale. This porter may hint at being sweetish but quietly takes it back as the velvety malt is folded by toasted nuts and soft smoke. CO2 is well incorporated. Dark malt leaves a roasted grainy note punctuated by honey bitterness. Well made, amazing amount of flavor for such a low abv. Rather pricey, but how often do you get the chance?
3.8 Draught at the brewpub. Dark brown body with a small light brown head. Lots of caramel in aroma with coffee and nuts as the side notes. Roasted coffee and chocolate in flavour. Lots of caramel as well. Soft carbonation.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a brown ruby body with an off white head. Lots of malt with hints of caramel and licorice. Lightly nutty with a hint of chocolate and ash.
