North Coast Blue Star

North Coast Blue Star

Malted wheat and the choicest American barley are combined with a blend of noble hops to create this light, fruity, refreshing beer. Brewed in the style of the American beer renaissance, Blue Star is unfiltered, the yeast adding a complex note to the flavor profile. It’s especially good with a slice of lemon!

2.6 Bottle, 355ml A cloudy amber beer with no head. Aroma is of citrics (like lemonade) and wheat. Taste is bitter with an aftertaste of wheat. Medium bodied with flat carbonation. Weird finish that kind of reminds me of chlorine.
2.6 Bottle, 355ml. Hazy golden with a head that’s completely gone in seconds. Citrus and wheaty aromas. Medium to light bodied with fizzy carbonation. Lightly sweet with a heavy acidity and no bitterness into a yeast and fruity finish. Disappointing from North Coast.
3.0 This beer was decent. It’s like and didn’t really stand out in any particular way. Just a general wheat ale.
3.0 355ml bottle from Club de Cervezas. Pours a hazy and pale yellow color with a big white head that diminishes quickly but laces well. Aroma is laid back, flowery, with lots of wheat and grainy malts and tiny hints of fruit and spice. Notes of hay, grain, bread, dried fruit and some soft citrus. Decent. Taste is neutral, bready with some small amount of spice and a fresh but indiscernible touch from the hops. Nothign extraordinary but well drinkable. Light bodied, medium carbonation. Quaffable. It has its space and time on a hot day, but it’s unlikely to satisfy if you look for complex aromas and explosion of flavors.
4.4 12 oz. bottle. Poured hazy, thick white head. Aroma was spices, coriander, yeast and wheat. Tease was medium sweet and wheaty.
3.3 330ml bottle served in a plastic glass. Pours a clouded orange color forming a creamy white head with good retention and some lacings formed and left in the glass. Nose is sweet and citrus with some pepper notes. Taste is sweet with strong notes of wheat. Zest and pepper notes. Light body, medium carbonation. Wheat in the aftertaste. Good.
3.2 Bottle. Hazy yellow color, small white head. Aroma of light lemon. Taste has subtle tart citrus. Easy drinking.
3.2 Refreshing! This has a pleasant lemon flavor I didn’t expect at all. Tastes good even after consuming a strong stout. Great summer brew...I’ll have to keep it in mind.
2.1 355 ml bottle, in Sacramento. Pale straw colour. American wheat ale (that are not intended to be hefeweizens or witbiers) must be one of the most boring beer styles ever. Nothing especially "wrong" with the aroma and flavour of this one, just grainy and boring.
3.5 12oz bottle. Old school American Wheat. Grainy, old a corn feel. Mild wheat tones, mostly just straightforward golden malt. Clean, well brewed. Straightforward and simple, OK.
3.4 Smells and pours like wheat beer has a nice golden hazy color no real head. Doesn’t really stand out, but is very drinkable,
3.3 12 oz bottle from Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. Dry and weak. Tastes a bit tart on the palette. Not highly recommended in this category.
3.0 Hazy yellow. Smell is classic wheat, maybe a little lemon. Taste is refreshing, crisp malt, touch of hops, sweet finish. Nothing exceptional but really great in the summer.
2.9 Hazy yellow pour with medium sized off white head. Aroma of wheat, yeast, slight citrus and hay. Taste of wheat, slight malts, faint citrus, faint hops. Light bodied, fizzy carbonation, crisp finish. Nothing really offensive but not all that great.
3.0 12oz brown bottle. Hazy golden. Creamy white head with minimal lacing. Nose has citrus and fruity notes. Taste is fruity with mild citrus, mild sweet notes and a touch of yeast. Light bodied, a touch watery. Not bad, this would be absolutely crushable in the summertime.
3.2 12 oz bottle from Utah State Liquor Store in Provo. Appearance: 3 finger white head, straw yellow, cloudy, Aroma: citrus, wheat, light grassiness, very refreshing and crisp aroma. Palate: light body, average carbonation, light bitter finish, slightly dry finish. Taste: sweet wheat and light sweet orange peel, into light grassy bitterness and slight orange peel. Overall, taste is not as crisp as the aroma implies, but super drinkable and very enjoyable. A pleasant beer!
2.7 Bottle pour. Hazy golden with a large creamy white head. Light citrus and wheat aroma. Light body. Very mild sweet taste.
3.3 Fresh citrus aroma. Cloudy yellow-orange body, small fizzy white head. Flavor is refreshing, citrusy, almost no bitterness. Slightly tart in the finish. Very good for a wheat.
3.3 355ml bottle at a restaurant in Shanghai. Pours hazy yellow orange with a white head. Floral hoppy aroma with malt. Sweet finish with underlying malt.
2.8 Flaska från Galatea/craftbeer. Varmt gyllengul, disig, ganska lågt vitt skum.
2.8 Poured into a tumbler on 05.14.14. A: 1/2 finger head, which recedes quickly. Yellow with a yeast cloud at the top. See through on the very bottom. S: Strong orange, some lemon. Maybe berry. It’s very sweet with an almost candy or juice like smell. T: Orange, berry, cherry are dominant. Sweet yeast is subtle. M: Crisp. Lots of carbonation. O: It did have a lot of carbonation, but it worked. It was a very refreshing beer, but average.
3.4 Hazy light golden with orange hues and a solid creamy white head. Aroma is peaches and spicy phenols. Flavor is spicy yeast with some very slight clove/ banana and a lemony aftertaste. Medium to light palate. Not overly complex but tasty and refreshing. More of a mild heffe than your average american wheat.
2.2 Bottle shared at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Pours yellow hazy with a small head, aroma of wheat, bread, flavor of vegetables, lemon juice, light bodied.
3.0 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured cloudy yellow, big fizzy white head but no lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus fruit and wheat but honestly kind of weak. Taste is bit watered down; but is wheat, fruit and malts. Easy to drink, not too bad.
2.7 Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks zvikar. Hazy yellow. Aroma of wheat, citrus and a spicy note. Wheaty flavor, slightly sweetish, with a tart hint, a bit of corn, citrus and mild spiciness. Pretty light-bodied.
3.0 355ml bottle. Slightly cloudy, yellow-ish, pale golden colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, white head. Citrusy hoppy and slightly strawy, husky aroma, a touch of lemon, peach and dried banana. Taste is minimally sweet wheat malty, notes of peach, a touch of lemon, slightly grassy, bitter hoppy overtones.
2.5 "refreshing brew, and i agree that there is a disctinct lack of "straw aftertaste", but other than that, it’s just ok. NC makes some GREAT beers, but this ain’t one of em."
3.2 Julie says not so bad. Really malty. Chewy malty B. drinkable Julie gives 3.3
