3.8Creamy tan head stayed on a rich dark brown body.
Malt, demerara, parkin & Christmas cake aroma.
Medium to full bodied, silky & smooth on the palate with a tingly clean back.
Sweet tasting with malt, liquorice, raisin & milk chocolate with slightly burnt roasted finishing.
3.112 fl oz bottle. Pour is very dark brown black and topped off with a finger of light tan froth which persists briefly. Aroma is roasty and malty, coffee notes everywhere! Taste is more of the roasted malts, light itter, black espresso coffee, and some smokiness in the dry finish, as par for the course for an Irish dry stout. A little light bodied at times, but otherwise easy drinking as promised.
3.5On tap at the brewery pours out a dark brown almost black topped with a cream tan head. Nose is nice big roast malts coffee chocolate some sweetness. Taste is more of the nice sweet chocolate ash roast and coffee.
3.6Ppurs black with small head. Aroma: coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate, touch of vanilla and marshmallow. Taste: roastiness, dark chocolate and marshmallow. Everything very smooth and drinkable, but with character.
4.3From Saveur Biere. In Ikea's pint glass. At lunch, with macaronni bechamel. No bb date but old. Pleasant dry roastyness with a ending sweetness. Strong bitterness and a tad smokey. Leaves a long, delicious aftertaste
2.4Bottle at Kill the Cat, Brick Lane. Kinda heavy malted, but a little bit bland.
3.7Black with a nice dark tan head. Aroma is roasty with caramel notes. Taste roasty, espresso, burnt toast. Nice and dry finish.
3.2Bottle @ Vagabund Tap Room. Served in Tulip.
Deep black body with a small, vanishing, good lacing beige head. Aroma of vanille and plums. Taste is more coffeish. Bitter. Medium bitter finish. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, oily texture.
4.3Aromas of roasted malt, vanilla; a creamy, smooth texture with vanilla and coffee flavours standing out, with very little bitterness but not overly sweet either. I'm not someone who usually takes stock in a beer's appearance but the deep black, full bodied look of it is arresting.
3.4Bottle: Literally black coloured, big rocky and firm off-white head, moderate bitter-sweet nose of roasted malt and dried fruits with traces of vanilla and molasses; moderate bitter-sweet flavour with that certain, well hidden acidity, relatively light bodied for a beer of 5.6%, but surely creamy; lingering dry bitter-sourish finish with a coffee and roasted malt. Good, but one is enough...
4.1Monday, April 23, 2018. Bottle, 12 fl.oz. Bottled 2 years ago. Purchase ("Bier Market", @Nantes, FR). Home. A sparkling black beer with a beige foamy head ; good retention ; good lacing. Light caramel, candied fruits, prune notes, black chocolate, red berries. Medium round sweet, medium dry bitter refreshing. Good body, oily texture, soft gaseous, sweet roasted fruity dry finish. Overall, delicious ! Yes, I loved the fruity caramel chocolate character ; balanced and highly "drinkable" :) I didn't get coffee aroma.
3.5I bought this along with a single of Old Plowshare (organic), and liked this just a bit better...but not really sure. They seemed very similar in style, but this one was a little more robust and darker in appearance. Besides that not much of a difference, flavor is almost the same. This is less money too (non-organic), so that is a plus. I still like Lost Coast 8-ball Stout over any of these though.
4.05oz on tap @ North Coast Brewery Taproom. Pours very dark brown with a medium creamy off-white head. Aroma is roasted malts with some coffee. Flavor is creamy roasted malts, coffee, hops. Great.
3.7From bottle in porter glass. Pours near black with big tan head, aroma of roast malt, mocha & a bit of licorice. Rich malt taste up front with a bitter finish to dry it out. Nice stuff
3.6The smell of roasted malt, some soja sauce and coffee. The small beige creamy head had a normal duration, the body is black. A malty taste, some coffee, light bitter. The body is medium strong, creamy with a lively carbonation.
3.40,355 l bottle from Beer Supreme, Oldenburg. Black with reddish edges in the glass, frothy two finger beige head. Roasted malty smell.Taste is malty, increasing roasty, later some coffee and/or dark choco. Hop present in the second row. Some berryfruity sweetness. Low carbonated. Noce one.
3.8Bottle@Diamondback grill in Sonora. Pours black/dark brown with foamy light brown head. Mellow roasted, chocolate, some dark fruit esters, licorice (from hops). Medium body, smooth texture
3.7Roasted malts and chocolate on the nose.
Pours with a decent head, little creamy.
Roasted malt flavour, dark chocolate and a little nutty.
Shame it’s not a tad creamier, but excellent stout for an autumn evening
3.5Pours a deep chocolate brown with solid nitro thick tan head. Light roast aroma. Light chocolate-coffee flavor...quite dry.
Notes: on nitro
3.7Pours dark brown with tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, chocolate and vanilla. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter and light sour.
4.05.6%ABV. Stout.
Poured out black. 40ºSRM.
Nose has aromas of cold sweet black coffee, plum jam, and overripe honey plums.
Mouthfeel is light. Palate has flavors of roasted barley, charcoal, coffee and a light ume. Like many stouts and porters done today, it is difficult to tell the difference, not with this one. The malt palate is smoke, charcoal and black bread. Hop flavors are woody and earthy.
Finish is clean with a charred wood bitter.
Overall really good. I liked this so much I actually came back for a 2nd taste before rating this.

4.116/X/17 - 12Fl. Oz. bottle @ home - BB: n/a (2017-1790) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!
Clear red brown beer, big irregular creamy beige head, unstable, dissipates immediately. Aroma: very roasted, lots of chocolate, some vanilla even, bit malty, touch of coffee. MF: soft carbon, medium to light body. Taste: pretty sourish start, roasted malts, some cocoa powder, bit fruity, bitter touch. Aftertaste: pretty bitter, roasted, malty, dark chocolate, some coffee, more cocoa powder and dark chocolate, dry finish.
3.9Can from Total Wine in Mountain View, CA. Aroma is roasted barley stew, woodsy things, cocoa. Taste is tangy, earthy roasted hoppiness. Very tangy and wet but also somehow dry. Reminded of an English Porter.

Zboze, kawa, miod. Najgorsze dzisiaj. Lekkie, slodkie. Raczej ziew. Jesli miod jest z utlenienia, to swieze musi byc fajne... zero daty tu:(
3.9Almost black with a tan nitro head. Smooth roasted malt with a slight slight sour twinge, a la Guinness. Hint of cocoa. Medium to full bodied. Nice take on the style.
3.2Bottle sample at a tasting at Tom L's place. Thanks Stas & Max. Dark brown. Roast, chocolate, nuts, some oxidation, sweetish, slightly bitterish finish, medium-bodied.
3.4At Tom's Place, pours brown with a beige head, aroma of chocolate, caramel, toffee, flavor of toffee and caramel, chocolate, medium bodied
3.5From Dec 2007
I got this one in a great trade with JDV. Thanks Deniz!
This pours from 12oz bottle a very dark brown with reddish hues and a large tannish head of foam.
The smell has good notes of roasted malt and sweet chocolate but it's fairly light on the nose.
The taste has some nice sweetness to it from the chocolate followed by the roasted malt. Nice and tasty and a smooth drinking Stout. It has a medium mouthfeel to it and it finishes with that good roasty flavour. Pretty darned drinkable and the relatively low abv helps in that regard. I like this stuff! And that head of foam just keeps on hanging in there as a solid 1/2 inch layer with plenty of sticky lacing. Very attractive looking Stout and a very tasty one. I recommend it.
3.8Bottle. Black colour, small head with decent lacing. Aroma is much coffee, also pine, very well balanced. Light bitterness, not sweet. Smooth, soft carbonation. Rich, but not aggressive. Very good!
