Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It’s a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish.
The Old Rasputin brand image is a drawing of Rasputin with a phrase in Russian encircling it—A sincere friend is not born instantly.

4.1Strong and robust. Hints of oak and chocolate.

4.01 pint can @ home, served in a teku glass, canned at: 2021/12/01, best before: unknown.
Aroma: medium intensity aromas of roasted malts, roasted coffee, black coffee, black chocolate, cocoa.
Appearance: very dark brown color, almost black, with light brown color head made of small bubbles, some of them grow over time to become medium and big sized ones. High head thickness, extremely high retention, high Brussels' lacing, too dark to talk about haziness.
Taste: medium sweetness, medium bitterness, no sourness. Flavors of black chocolate, black coffee, cocoa, roasted coffee, roasted malts. Very well balanced, the bitterness is the perfect counterpart for the malts' sweetness.
Mouthfeel: medium to full body, oily to creamy texture, low carbonation, very long dry finish with low bitterness and the aforementioned flavors where the cocoa, black chocolate and black coffee flavors really shine. Alcohol is very well hidden, not noticeable in the aroma or flavor and only noticeable because of its quite strong mouth and throat warming. Astringency is not noticeable. Hop burn is not noticeable. Acidity from the roasted black malts is quite noticeable.
Overall: powerful aromas and flavors of black chocolate, black coffee, cocoa, roasted coffee, roasted malts. Very well brewed, very tasty and enjoyable. It would be better with a bit less of ABV and less acidity from the black malts. A perfect sipper for winter cold nights.
3.416 oz can poured into a tulip glass. Gift from a friend. Thanks friend. A terrific brew to sample on a dark, damp cloudy Portland evening. Winter draws near and it's time for stouts and porters.
3.3A tad bit better than average
4.4Supreme syrupy chocolate pour under an abundant, dense, 2 finger beige head. Creamy compact bubbles, with rich form and a sticky lacework. Roasted cocoa scent alongside dark fruits. Dark chocolate, toffee and coffee taste as in a fine pastry. Head with bubble tufts remain as top coat. Tingling mouthfeel alongside the requisite carbonation, is released just when the generous ABV kicks in. Dry at first becomes wet and potent on the finish.

Chestnut beige thick 3 finger foamy head from pour. Chocolate nose. Pastry fragrance. Roasted coffee, toffee, wet sweet flavors and sticky lacing left behind. Also, a residual smoke. Deep carbonation presents itself outward, the calm warming as the head cap still there in the glass. A sublime beer.

Chocolate Brown Black opaque pour with vivid beige head. Peanut fragrant tart cocoa. Wet mouthfeel in sync with the elevated ABV.
4.6Vintage 2005...
Aroma and taste of coffee, chocolate, dark ground licorice and sweetness. Good bitterness that fills the whole mouth for an eternity. Really good beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
4.0Smooth dark stout with a sweet bourbon finish.
3.9Wygląd: Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzysta. Piana jasnobrązowa, średniej wysokości, głównie drobnopęcherzykowa, po krótkiej chwili opada do sporego pierścienia, pozostawia lekki lacing.
Aromat: Po wytrawnej stronie.
Pomimo całego wytrawnego "angielskiego" zamysłu, to brakuje trochę ciała i większej ilości owców - suszonej śliwki, wiśni.
5.0Upon bringing this beauty home, I cracked it open and sniffed the heavy aroma; not unlike one would do with the real Rasputin. The first sip was surprising, almost invigorating, this slick black stout slid down my throat and transported me to the Motherland. I could hear my heart beat beating to the sound of Rasputins thrusting pelvis. I quickly handed the beer to my 3rd and final wife, her first sip left her nipples perked. AND I MEAN PERKED. My jealousy snapped me back to reality where I took my beer to my bathroom and drank the rest, dreaming of returning home.
4.2Bottle picked up from Biervana, Munich and consumed at home, Thursday 18th March 2021 taking part in Beer School with Natalya Watson. We had a rather ordinary Creamy Maccheroni with Pork and Peas for tea. Pours black, oily, sticky, black treacle, bitter, roasty, real lingering roasty bitterness, this is great, no adjuncts but bitter coffee does make you think that this is added, bitter cocoa. Lovely beer.
5.0IMHO this is the best beer on the planet. I rarely drink any other beer if this is available.
Textura semi-oleosa, cuerpo medio-denso y carbonatación medio-ligera.
1.6Looks nice. Nice fine bubbles in the head. Roasty aroma. Taste begins with roasty and a not subtle booziness. Finish is heavy bitterness with no maltiness to smooth it out. I am going to let the other 3 sit in the cellar for a bit and see if time helps. Was hard to drink at this point.
3.9Buena cerveza, toques caramelos os y a café torrefacto. Buena dosis de amargor. Una gran cerveza
5.0Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass. A 2" tan head falls slowly. Color is dark brown/black. Aroma of rich roasted malt, cocoa, coffee, earthy hops. Mouthfeel is thick and viscous. Flavor explodes with dark malt, sweet cocoa, prunes, citrus, a bit of smokiness. Overall: world class beer, I can't find anything to criticize with this one.
4.0Jet black with a thick tan head. Molasses, coffe notes, dried fruits, dark forest fruits, roasted malts, hints of vanilla, oaky, leather for aroma. Halfway medium sweet, over medium bitter. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Tasty, would've liked a bigger body. The bitterness is awesome on this one.
4.5Coffee and dark chocolate. Some vanilla. Roasted malt. Sweet. Rich and creamy. Alcohol is barely noticeable. Tasty stuff. And of course, a potent one
4.1Pitch dark pour, mocca head. Some hoppy bitterness but overall tons of coffee and dark chocolate!
