Torr fin avslutning.
3.79-14-21 Grand Liquor, DC
4.3The Aromas are molasses dominant with dark malt, roast, black patent. Flavors are much better than nose with molasses backing off a lot thankfully, on the sweet side but not overly so, good carbonation. A bit chalky with decent body and lightly bitter finish. Barest hint of whiskey at the very end. Alcohol is well hidden. Very nice beer.
3.8Black colour, fluffy tan head.
Aroma: roasted malt, chocolate, cacao, some coffee, smoke, rye whisky.
Taste: roasted malt, coffee, cacao, whisky, smoke wood. Some alcohol, slightly oily mouthfeel.
4.4Really good imperial.Smooth, strong rye taste. Amy & Shane farewwll
4.0Bottle pour, dark brown. Strong fermented grape and molasses aroma. Definitely a difference from the bourbon barrel, a dryness with notes of chocolate, raisin, and a nice dry rye note at the end.
4.1Aromas of intense barrel oak nougat rye whiskey aged wort syrup vanilla heavy barrel wood and sawdust. Taste is insanely good oak vanilla barrel wood rye whiskey aged wort syrup chocolate roasted barley faint toasted coconut licorice sawdust and corkscrew. Overall, absolutely incredible stuff. Better than the bourbon barrel variant. Highly reccommend.
3.812 oz bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Molasses, dark fruit, cocoa aroma with whiskey, definitely more muted than the bourbon barrel version. Flavor is also more muted, with oak and whiskey combining with cocoa and molasses to create a silky palate. Good, but having had the bourbon version right before this, I can't help but compare them, and I definitely prefer the bourbon version.
4.0Black with a tan head that lasts. Aroma of milk chocolate, vanilla, light smoke. Medium to full bodied, moderate barrel, nice balance of flavors. Proof that an old school style imperial stout can score high marks without 11 added flavors while being blended 3 times and stored in a cave in Antarctica.
4.716.9 fl bottle. Pours a blackish with a big foamy khaki head that has decent retention. The aroma is quite strong, I can smell this from quite a distance (ok, just from across the desk). Aroma consists of anise, dark chocolate syrup, vanilla and whiskey. The flavor consists of whiskey, black walnuts, dark chocolates and some licorice. The palate is full and viscous with soft carbonation. The finish is medium in duration and boozy. Paired with some Reggiano shavings--for some reason Reggiano and impy stouts seem to go well together for me. Overall: Top shelf stuff
3.4Bottle, batch XXII. Pour was hugely frothy and hard to get into the glass. Hugely boozy aroma. Hugely sweet, lots of bourbon flavors and vanilla. The hints of chalky chocolate and coffee are but a memory. A little overdone. And I paid like $28 for the bottle. Ouch.
4.0Pours an opaque brownish black from the bottle with bubbly tan foam that dissipates slowly to leave moderate lace. Aroma of dark and milk chocolate notes over booze and mild roast, some vanilla and coconut notes on the retronasal, with a hint of molasses and smoke. Taste follows, sweet from the malt and boozy barrel, a touch of bitterness from the roast and base beer, silky and velvety on the tongue without being too thick. Very nice.
4.0XXI. Black body with a finger of tan head. Aroma is black coffee, tobacco, licorice, toasted wood, and milk chocolate. Taste is coffee bitter, hot cocoa sweet, dry finish. Texture is fairly light. Really enjoyable.
4.1Nera con schiuma cremosa e persistente a texture fine. Profumo dolce, cioccolato, caramello, frutta scura, vaniglia, whisky, cenere.
4.0Taste: Smokey tobacco, molasses, black licorice, Oak, coffee, rye grains, dark fruit raisins. Same with the nose. Black/brown hue, mostly opaque, tan head with nice ring of lace. Full but not heavy body. Boozy sneaks up on you, non sweet, almost salty or tobacco forward.
4.3Black color with a brown head. Oak vanilla coffee aroma. Oak cherry chocolate vanilla coffee flavor. Medium smooth body.
4.7Deserves a good cigarj
4.1Bottle at tasting. Aroma of dark chocolate, licorice, soft smoke, soft whiskey and malt. Taste has bitter hop, dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, soft rye whiskey, caramel and a little smoke. Great classic bitter ris, love it.
4.4500ml bottle, XXII edition (2018). Rich roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate, earthy rye, caramel, vanilla, bourbon and oak. Pours deep caramel brown colored with a large mocha brown head that has excellent retention and lacing. Starts with caramel, chocolate and roasted malt flavors as well as having a rich, full body and slick, viscous mouthfeel. Finishes impeccably smooth with rye, vanilla, bourbon and oak flavors. Fantastic imperial stout!
3.9Pours black with full, tan head. Aroma is roast, molasses, whiskey and cocoa. Taste is chocolate and light caramel, moving to wood, roast and smoke. Finish is whiskey, wood, chocolate, smoke and light caramel. Good stout.
4.7This was the XXI version. Great roasty and boozy nose. Great dark and foreboding color. Flavor was perfect with roasted malt, chocolate, spice and whiskey. Smooth and heavy.
3.9Bottle, 2015. Pours opaque black with a medium dark brown head, good retention and decent lacing. Aroma is cocoa, molasses, chocolate, bourbon, hints of smoke. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter, a bit of char and bourbon. Medium plus body, fairly high carbonation.
4.1A corked and caged 500ml bottle, XVIII release. Poured into a snifter glass. It was black in colour with a one finger dark tanned to brown head that had good retention and left lots of nice lacing. Aromas of light roast, chocolate, whiskey, oak and vanilla. Tastes rye whiskey forward providing sweetness, light roast, chocolate, coffee, oak and vanilla. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Overall, body was lighter than I’d prefer for what it is. I get the whiskey booze forwardness, but I don’t get much of the usual spiciness from rye whiskey (maybe I’ve held on to this bottle for too long?). But nevertheless, it is still an enjoyable sipper.
4.2500 ml. bottle, XXI release. Opaque black with a medium sized head that settles to a lasting half-inch of foam. Nose of earthy bread, oxidized caramel apple, chocolate and a hint of citrus. Flavor is the same. Medium-plus mouthfeel with smooth low-medium fizz. A bit harsher and boozier than both the base beer and the bourbon barreled version, but still a nice brew.
4.0Flaska Systembolaget. Liknande i smak. Rostad malt, choklad, torkad frukt, fat och smörkola. Värmande alkohol
3.6Flaska beställd från SB. Svart med ljusbrunt skum. Doft av vanilj, whiskey och choklad.
4.0XXI .... black pour with a thin beige head and bands of lacing .... aroma of oak, cocoa, light coconut, vanilla, roasted malts, coffee and whiskey ..... taste is of dry oak, sweet cocoa, spicy rye whiskey, vanilla, roasted malts, coffee and light coconut .... body is thinner than I would have thought has a nice bitter, spicy and dry backbone .. lightly slick and oily mouthfeel .... finish is of dry oak with a big spicy rye whiskey bite, and vanilla with cocoa and roasted malts .... nice addition of rye whiskey to the series, good balance and solid flavors ... rye whiskey lingers for quite a bit in this one
4.1Draught at Harry's Hofbrau in Redwood City. Licorice, chocolate, booze and barrel all over this thing. Jet black with slowly fading brown head that covers the glass with patterns all the way down the glass. Viscous.
