Northern Monk New World IPA

Northern Monk New World IPA

Cask, keg and bottle; Regular.

Brewed at Hambleton until 7 August 2014, when Northern Monk’s own kit came into operation.

A descendant of October beer, India Pale Ale is now one of the most popular styles in the world. Originally brewed in the 1700s by Hodgson’s Bow Brewery in London and exported to India by the East India Company. This beer has been through a 300 year evolution. Our New World IPA uses a combination of US, Australian and British hop varieties and is inspired by the hop ratios and techniques originally used.

3.4 Good IPA, if a bit resin-y for me...........................................
3.8 330ml. Deep amber, nearly opaque. 1 finger slightly off white head. Very good IPA.
3.2 Can: Poured an orange with a white foamy head. Aroma is piney hops. Taste is bitter hops, light citrus.
3.3 Can - Slightly cloudy bright orange with small white head. Strong citrus aroma. Good mouthfeel. Citrus, pineapple and grass - very bitter finish, lip smacking but good. Enjoyed.
4.0 Pours cloudy orange-peach colour. Smells like oranges and buttered toast. Tastes like hops with pine and a touch of apricot and a hint of smoked wood. Very dry. Lovely.
4.1 Pours hazy orange, small but dense head. Aroma is pineapple, tropical fruits, forest tree cones, sweet. Pleasant herbal and fruity hoppiness on the sweet, biscuity malty backbone. Warming up and satisfying.

3.8 Look: cloudy honey yellow with a large and pretty rocky white head. Perfect retention. Aroma: citrus fruit, exotic notes, earthy, light catty feel. Taste: moderate sweetness, nice citrus, exotic fruit, earthy hop, medium bitterness. Lingering hoppy ending. Palate: medium body. Average carbonation. Overall: a very good, rather complex IPA
3.6 16.04.2020: 330 ml can at home, bb. 22.7.20, bought at The Crafts, Kloten. Pours a hazy dark golden to amber with a white head. The aroma is medium hoppy and lightly to medium malty with dank citric notes, raw grapefruit, citrus zest, pomelo, some pine, resin, light herbal notes, bready malt and hints of biscuit. Medium body with a soft to average carbonation, a light to medium sweetness and a light to medium bitterness. The flavor is hop dominated with lots of hops in front of a solid malt backbone - more fruits in the flavor compared to the smell with lots of grapefruit, some orange, pine, resin and more herbal and earthy hop notes towards the finish, some bready malt, some bicuit and hints of honey. Finishes with a light to medium hoppy bitterness. Overall a really balanced classic hop dominated IPA with nice citric and piney hops in front of a god malt backbone. 3.9 330ml can brewed in England at 6.2%. Vibrant almost opaque orange, with floating sediment. Picturesque OK-duration head. Moderate carbonation. Not much aroma, but some bready fruity notes - apricot? Citrus, zest and pine - that's what the can says, and that's what you get, all melded together in a central thrust. Pine notes are well-balanced with the fruit notes, some orange and grapefruit, but quite punchy. The malt is brown-bread and substantial if not as prominent as the unusually prominent one in their Eternal Session IPA. This beer would make a perfect introduction to craft beer - genuine craft but nothing overly fancy or unbalanced, one that anyone can enjoy. Northern Monk's flagship beer. The 6.2% makes itself known slightly in the throat.
4.0 Best in Morrisons
3.7 On tap at za razBIRAchi. Hazy deep straw with plenty of head and lacing but no visible rising carbonation. On the nose, grapefruit, slightly rotten citrus, apricot, tropical fruit, grainy cereal. In the mouth, frothy at first, some astringency kicking in and then yielding to a light texture, flavours similar to the aromas, a clean finish. Full-flavoured but refreshing.
3.7 Very smooth.quite fresh.nice hoppy tongue drying beer.
