1.8Smokey is right. Way too much smoke flavor. It overpowers the rest of the flavors. Smells good when you open it, but almost gimmicky in flavor.
3.5Bottle. Bought Aug 2017 at GBBF; BB undated; Drank Nov 2017 - Dark brown in colour. Small tan head. Smoked wood and bacon aroma. Malty; lightly roasted malts, smoked malts, caramel, chocolate. Fruity; dark fruits, plum, raisins. Hoppy; light hops. Sweet smokey roast malty fruity throughout. Very dry smokey finish. Tasty easy drinking smoked beer. (2017-11)
3.1Sample at SBWF 2017. Almost black with a small tan head. Soft with dark malt, light smoke and some caramel. On the light side but an ok one.
3.4Bottle. Pours a pitch black with a quickly fading light brown bubbly head. Aroma is of peat, smoked malt, coffee, chocolate. Taste is of chocolate, biscuit, caramel, smokey. Light oily mouthfeel, medium carbonation.
3.7Bottle share thanks to Wingman poured black with tan head. Smokey aroma chocolate cocoa coffee smooth good stuff.
3.7Bottle. Smoky roast aroma. Starts with a large head that quickly vanishes. Pleasant malty taste, the smoke is obvious but not over the top - its very tasty. I got on with this and found it very easy drinking for a smoked beer.
3.5Bottle from GBBF 2017 and drunk at home. Black beer lasting thin tan head Smoke on aroma no doubt. Smoked wood and bacon. Quite smooth in mouth. Smooth porter base. Smoke is quite intense but quite well integrated too. A little smoked fish. Base beer is a little oily. Ok. I mean i do like the smoke not sure about the rest of the beer .
3.3Aroma: smoked notes and roasted dark malts.
Appearance: black color and creamy head.
Taste: smoked notes, coffee, roasted dark malts, chocolate, ashy, dry.
Palate: low body and medium carbonation, smoky finish.
Overall: Decent smoked porter.
3.9Light smoky aroma. Almost no head, but good carbonation. Great light smoke flavor that does not overpower. Slightly sweet finish.
3.3Pours black with medium head disappearing fast. Aroma: nice not too dominating smoke aroma (more of a wood smoke than bacon) coupled with chocolate. Taste: here the chocolate dominates, followed by woody smoke. The taste is a bit more watery, but this makes the brew nicely drinkable. Not the smoked beer of the year, but I like it.
3.6Bottle 355ml, a dark beer with medium head. Nose is on caramel, dark chocolate and smoked notes. Aroma is on dark chocolate and smoked notes, good creamy basis, bit watery but pleasant and well balanced, smooth and rich.
3.4Dark brown color with brown head that fizzes away really fast. Aroma has smoked malt, charred wood, sweet toasted malts and some brown sugar. Taste starts slightly sweet and malty with some brown sugar and caramel and finishes slightly more roasty and more balanced but overall it’s still on the sweet side. Medium body and carbonation. Overall it’s a legit smoked porter but it’s not special in any way.
3.0Black, tiny off-white head, lacing. Heavily smoked, smoked cheese aroma. Smoke completely overwhelming the flavors, sweetish, smoked salmon. Full body, to much smoke, finish resembling ash aroma. Wasn’t impressed.
3.9Excellent brew from O’Fallon. Great to sip on. Nice thick body, full natural smoke flavor that is fresh from the grill. No blocking coffee notes that are usually so overwhelmingly prevalent in porters/stouts. Slight balancing bitterness.
4.3Bottle @ Pazzeria
Last beer of the night
A good smoke aroma that is really less present in taste.
Well balanced spicy, lightly smoked and bitter
4.612 oz bottle. This was very nice and a unique experience that bears repeating. Don’t miss it!
3.212oz from Bierothek Bamberg, no discernible bb date, shared in Schöneberg. - Drabby mahogani pour, on the watery stout side of porter. Unanticipated Schlenkerla bacon in aroma, mingled with vanilla bourbon, old bonfire, thaw water. Diluted milk chocolate and filter coffee texture and flavours in taste water down the evaporated molasses and beechwood smoke towards a faint, starchy finish. Expected a tad more going by the accolades and price - particularly punching power and body for the abv.
3.712 fl.oz bottle. Pours very dark orange brown colour with a huge good lasting tan head. Aroma of smoked dark roasted malt, some sweet malt and bacon. Taste of sweet roasted malt, bacon, smoke, some coffee and chocolate in the background.
3.5355ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty, dark malty aroma, hints of smoke, grilled beef, a touch of tar and treacle. Taste is smoky and roasty dark malty, subtle sweetness with treacle touch, hints of dark chocolate, tar, a touch of beechwood ashes. Nice.
3.7DATE TASTED: January 30, 2016... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint.. OCCASION: continuing to show the boys The Desolation of Smaug--time for a smoked porter to match that of a smoking drake!... APPEARANCE: pours a fizzy, pitch black body that supports a brief one-finger brown head, which ultimately fades into a crescent... as a porter usually approximates... AROMA: a robust roastedness engages with vegetable, ham, bacon and egg... the peatiness is present too, as much of the aroma suggests a log fire and a dead pig--not the worst thing, but not tremendously alluring either... PALATE: medium-bodied, rather smooth...and a bit thin for what is described as a "bigger" beer... the aftertaste lingers, while it goes down with an acute oiliness... of average experience... TASTE: as expected, the bacon is thick and the profile is thin... some peat and smoke, but not overwhelming... hints of alcohol also show up oddly at 6% ABV... vegetable--onion, garlic and cola make for a reasonable finish... OVERALL: the first O’Fallon I have had--go with a medal winner--is not a bad introduction to the brand... the experience is mostly a pleasant one, with little outside the genre to explain or deride...
3.812 ounce bottle. Translucent brown color. Small fluffy beige head. Roasted malt aroma with noticeable smokiness. Soft roasted maltiness has a decent smoke and nutty character. Sweet cocoa nuance in midtaste. Slightly chewy mouthfeel. Smooth and drinkable with some dried fruit and coffee notes.
3.0Served in snifter at brewery. Dark brown with moderate carbonation. Watery flavor with some smoke but not as malty as could be desired. Clean finish but not a great porter.
3.8Super black color with light head and smoke with roasted taste and malt chocolate flavors. Long mouthfeel.
3.7Bottle. Black body with tan head. Aroma is smoke roasted malts with vanilla and cocoa and hints of dried fruits. Taste is cocoa with smoke and roasted malts. Aftertaste is medium roasted malts. Nice and easy one.
1.7Drank from a pint glass poured from a twelve ounce bottle. Pours black! with a tiny bit of beige head. Smells smokey and syrupy. Tastes pretty gross and thick. I’m definitely a porter fan but not this one.
3.4Super-dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is smokey. It doesn’t quite taste like a smoked porter, but reminds me a lot of Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock. The porter is back in there, though, I can tell. A good smoked beer, but not outstanding.
3.5Bottle; pours dark brown with a tan head; aroma is smoky with roasted malt; taste is smoky chocolate with roasted malt and a hint of bacon; finish is dry and smoky; decent
4.10.355l bottle. Dark brown color with tanned head. Aroma is smoked malt, chocolate and hint of coffee. Taste is smoked malt, toasted malt and chocolate with some coffee. Overall it’s great and interesting beer.
