Oakham Citra

Oakham Citra

Light gold in colour, bursting with citrus and tropical hop flavours and sensationally refreshing. The original UK Citra.

In 2009 on his annual hop sourcing visit to the USA, Oakham's Brewing Director John Bryan discovered an exceptional new hop variety - Citra. He rushed it to the UK, ensuring that Oakham Ales were the first UK brewery to brew a beer with 100% Citra hops and maintaining Oakham's reputation for pioneering innovation.

ABV: 4.2% in cask, 4.6% in bottle.

3.0 Bottle of 50cl, in a Tulip glass; from the fridge. Drinked @home Old note, for counting purpose only.
3.8 This is a cracking citrus-hopped clear and golden pale ale and often my go-to beer when other options don't excite - the aroma is mellow citrus fruit and the bitterness is just right, on top of a solid light malt backbone, with a subtle tartness in the finish
2.9 Cask from the Wellington in Birmingham. Pours very pale yellow and the aroma is very citrus from the hops. Citrus flavour too which is not too sharp.
3.1 Not a fan of citrus anyway.
3.4 500 ml bottle from a cheese store. The store put it rather close to Timothy Taylor's Landlord, just like the guy a few reviews below this. Pours a surprisingly pale yellow colour similar to a pilsner with very little to no head, so no points for the appearance. Aroma is a nice estery grapefruit with some pines and malt. The taste is slight malty and a bit estery, followed by a rather piney aftertaste. It's not really outstanding in any way, but pretty solid nevertheless.
3.7 Old rating from Aug 2014 - 500ml bottle, 4.6 ABV. Pours golden with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of citrus, grapefruit & elderflower. Moderate body. Tart finish.
3.6 500ml bottle. Was 4.6% not 4.2 %. Lovely hoppy aroma. Light fruity , hoppy, and malty, grapefruit and zesty citrus taste. Lingering hops taste. Very nice IPA.
3.4 So far I've not been a big fan of Citra hops but I read that this one was iconic so lets try this... Pours light gold, thin head, some retention; ok Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, grain, and only a small hint of the herby cats piss; ok Taste is quite a fresh citrus to be fair, a little zesty, a grapefruit note also keeps it refreshing, a nice level of bitterness in the finish; very good actually. Body is light, carbonation is average. For a session IPA this is ok but it's not standout. Its the best Citra only hoppy beer I have had but in terms of session IPAs there are so many better alternatives out there. This beer is only 11 years old but the brown bottle is next to Timothy Taylors Landlord, its almost traditional already.
3.5 Tasty as always. Although, it wasn't as bitter as it feesl some times. Much more mellow.
3.1 Aroma : Lightly toasted sweet caramel malt, mix of citrus & soft fruits noteably, grapefruit; apricots & peach. Also has a light sulphurous undertone Taste : Medium bodied, slightly oily texture. Big bitter citric grapefruit bite that overides any other distinct fruit that might be there. Sweet caramel malt comes through as it warms up. O.K. but fairly standard
1.7 Cask at five Lamps, Derby I really don’t know why I’m rating this, as I have a hearty dislike of citra hops. However, my drinking records show I haven’t actually drunk it since 2013 at least, so … Pours a golden yellow with minimal head and good lacing. A strong hoppy nose with oranges also present. In the mouth it is VERY bitter, with overwhelming lemon and grapefruit. The finish is bitter and very dry. However, the worst is yet to come. The finish fades into a hoirrble grapefruit / metallic taste in the back of the mouth, that was difficult to get rid of. Certainly spoilt my appreciation of at least the next two beers. Yuck !!
5.0 Refreshing and easy to drink
3.6 Very bitter and crisp. Nice floral hops quite easy drinking.
2.5 Pours a golden colour ale with a white thin head Notes of citrus fruits and berries Cask ale at brewery tap
3.7 zapch przyjemny, intensywny, dojrzałe owoce, brzoskwinie, morele, dojrzałe słodkie cytrusy, trochę kwiatów. kolor jasnego złota, opalizujący, piana biała, skąpa i nietrwała. w smaku rześkie, lekkie, ale konkretne. dużo słodkich owoców, jak z zapachu, brzoskwinie, morele, słodkie cytrusy, skórki z cytrusów, zywice tropikalne, trochę biszkoptu w tle. całość fajnie ułożona i pijalna. goryczka wysoka, żywiczna, cytrusowa, dość długa. nasycenie niskie
4.6 One of my go to favourites at the moment, if you like a citra pale this won’t disappoint.
4.0 Brilliantly clear golden Session IPA. Could have a lot of this on a hot day. One to remember for sure. Love this citra hop. So refreshing and tangy. Very bitter with little sweetness. Razor sharp beer.
3.7 Cask to half-pint (thanks, Martin). Looks good for the style; a transparent gold with white head. Smells and tastes of fruity hops alongside a moderately bittersweet backbone. Mouthfeel is medium light-bodied and pleasantly bitter. Good beer.
4.0 This is my favourite style of beer, so always expect a lot from them. Great flavour throughout with that classic citra finish. Excellent beer.
3.9 Medium head, nice lacing. Medium hazy, yellow-orange colour. Intensive aroma of citrus and exotic fruits, lots of mango and grapefruit with biscuit background. Taste is light to medium sweet, medium bitter with great fruity aftertaste. Smooth texture and nice balanced. Great IPA
2.1 This has a distinctly herbal smell, not unpleasant, but not enticing either. The overall taste is quite dry with a strong bitter finish.
3.8 Bottle, many thanks dantomlinson! Slightly unclear golden color with off-white head. Aroma is citrus hops, grassy, some toffee malts. Taste is bready, citrus hops, nice British Ale flavour, a bit herbal, bitter finish. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation, and a bit of a mineraly bite. Tasty British Ale with a nice citric twist without becoming too modern - I like!
3.3 Cask at Wellington during SHNup: Poured a golden with white head. Aroma is hoppy citra. Taste is citra hops, very tropical.
3.3 Bottle from my parents for Christmas. Watered down lemon juice and malts aroma. Light gold. Frothy translucent white head soon thins. The medium bitterness is tempered somewhat the citra sourness. Some spice but also a lot of oldschool UK IPA quinine. Thin. Light. Average carbonation. Long dry very astringent finish. It's OK. I guess I can see why this caused a fuss back in the day but a raw IPA compared to what more modern brewries are producing over here.
4.3 Very smooth like bitter. Slight fruit. (Pint at Norkolk Arms)
3.0 Rocky off white head stayed on a translucent pale lemon coloured still body. Lemonade, sweet citrus & hoppy aroma. Medium bodied, soft over the tongue with a tingle on the back. Tangy hops, bitter citrus, lemon, saccharin & pith with a slightly soapy finish.
4.5 This has to be my favourite beer - YUMMY YUM YUM very satisfying with a decent kick too , plenty of that tangy citra hoppiness that I've recently discovered - can't wait to open the next one , this beer is.........................Well just try one and see for yourself !
3.8 Pale golden body with a minimal vanishing white head. Aroma is lemon zest and grapefruit. Taste is citrusy, fruity, dank. Mild dank finish. Low body soft carbonation oily texture.
4.5 As the name suggests it's a citrusy flavour that is very nice. Highly recommend!
