4.3Opaque black beer with a medium beige/brown head. Heavy aroma; taste starts medium sweet and ends slightly bitter, dry and hot. Chocolate, mocha, roasted malts, coffee, spices and chili. 9/5/8/4
3.5355ml bottle. Quasi black colour with small, frothy, fading, beige head. Spicy and roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of cinnamon, hints of nutmeg, coffee, chocolate, cocoa. Taste is spicy and roasty, chocolately dark malty, notes of cinnamon, hints of nutmeg, coffee, chocolate, cocoa, initially "background-ish" peppery spiciness accumulates in typical chili manner; slightly metallic and minimally soapy inteference. Slightly unbalanced, unintegrated; the malty basis is too weak and therefore unfit to embed the challenging spices in adequate degree.
2.3Dark brown, almost black. Clear brown head, two fingers, decent retention. Difficul to see the carbonation through the darkness. Oily texture. Aroma is cinnamon, nutmeg. Taste is cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla. Sweet and really spicy. Horrible heat at the end that lasts and lasts between sips. One sip is enough to destroy your oesophagus. I can't rate disasters like this.
1.5De Labirratorium. En copa Teku. Viendo The OA 2x07.
3.5Bottle from Drankenspeciaalzaak Jelle, Leeuwarden. Very spicy aroma with lots of cinnamon, nutmeg, roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, and chili peppers. A touch of vanilla and liquorice. Flavour is almost medium sweet with a mild bitterness and a pleasant chili burn. Body is medium. Fun Stout, very spicy with cinnamon in particular dominating the aroma.
1.3Coal black brown. First taste is cloying sweet like I'm permeating my mouth with sweet perfume. Metallic aroma. Each slug is overwhelming happy unpleasant sweet stuff. Mouth coating rude sweaty betty. Even has a warming sensation associated with the spices, somewhat like pepper. Difficult, clear to the futile ending. Fricken ridiculously uncalled for.
3.0Very similar to Perennial Abraxad
4.5Very good. For just being a Stout the flavors all combine to create a greater whole
3.5Bottle. Pours opaque black, small creamy tan head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is cocoa, peppers, cinnamon, vanilla. Flavor is light plus sweet, light bitter, light chili head. Medium body. A bit heavy handed.
3.612 ounce bottle from Elmer’s Escanaba. Dark brown, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of cinnamon, coffee, chocolate, and a hint of peppers. The taste is cinnamon, vanilla, peppers, chocolate. Medium bodied, mild lingering heat.
3.8Aroma is dark malts, cinnamon and definitely creeping chilies. The flavor is dark malts, cinnamon, dark fruit/fruit and a mix of chilies and acidity in the finish.
2.0From BandC. Not my thing, weird aroma, very spiced, and then the heat was a little much. Interesting if it was part of a sample but not a whole bottle. Serving: Bottle
3.712/23/16. 12oz bottle thanks to Patrick! Another Hunahpu’s clone! Black pour with a nice khaki head. Okay aroma, roasted malts, chocolate, some spice. Good flavor, roasted malts, chocolate, cinnamon, a touch of spice that builds. Tasty.
4.8Very rich Stout with mocha tones. Great body with very dark color and wonderful aroma. Oh and it pairs well with a great burger.
3.812 oz. bottle from Mark - thanks again, Mark! Pours an opaque near-black color, really deep, with a small tan head that settles into a ring, small island of film, and a few ropes of lace in the glass. Big cinnamon and spicy peppers and nutmeg in the aroma, along with brown sugar, coffee, chocolate, and graham cracker. The flavor doesn’t quite have the same balance or depth, with coffee, habanero, dark chocolate, cinnamon, earth, dark fruits, brown sugar, and a hint of metal. Light-medium bodied, with a spicy, sweet, rich, and just barely tangy mouthfeel. Spicy finish and aftertaste. Just a wee bit too much heat on the palate without as much balance as the aroma. Nice, fun beer otherwise.
3.5Aroma is spicy, spicy, spicy... definitely the habeneros, but also vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg - wow! There is a fair amount of bitterness, though who knows if it’s from hops or roasted malt.
Color is pretty much black with a small tan head.
Taste includes that generalized bitterness and not too much sweetness.
Body is medium; texture is oily to creamy; carbonation average; finish is loooong and warm.
3.8Draft. Pours thick black. The aroma is bold. Cinnamon and spices. The main taste cinnamon and sweet chocolate is light but good. Then the heat rushes in not over powering.
3.812oz bottle from Beer Bazaar in Hainesville. Big cinnamon/pepper presence with almost a chocolate mint component. Loved the BA imperial version which seemed to smooth the pepper out. This is solid with the pepper being a key player. 13.8
3.9Dark black. Very thin and receding lacing. Starts off chocolate and cinnamon and then habernero sits on the palate. Not much heat, its just really well balanced. I love these sessionable mexican chocolate style beers. Thx arminjewell
3.6Bottle. Black with a small tan head that leaves no lacing. Aroma is cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, winter spices, and pepper. Taste is cocoa, chocolate, coffee, winter spices, cinnamon, and pepper in the finish. Thinner for the style and a lingering mild heat.
4.1The aroma is wonderful chocolate and spices and it pours a perfectly beautiful glass of brew with a sizable, long lasting creamy brown head. I would prefer it to have a thicker more creamy mouthfeel but that is my personal preference. The spices come through more as a scent to me but they do enhance the overall flavor. I get more of the light chocolate/coffee forward with lingering habanero bringing up the end.
2.7Bottle brought from Michigan. Not loving the cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. They almost taste artificial. I wouldn’t mind that it’s maybe a little too spicy if it weren’t for the cinnamon weirdness. It almost has a soapy taste. I tasted a ton of new great beers on my trip to Michigan, but this was a disappointment.
3.9On tap. Very interesting. Pours black. Aroma is chocolate and nutmeg with cinnamon. Taste is the same but with the habenero spiciness that lingers long and bitter
3.6(Draught) Pours an opaque black body with a medium cream head. Aroma of chilies, coffee, and chocolate. Flavor of chilies, chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, some autumn spices, and earthiness with a lingering spicy finish.
3.1Bottle share @ DLD 2016. Pour is deep brown with a small tan head. Aroma and flavor of roasted malt, pepper spice, cinnamon, chocolate, and nutmeg. Finish is very spicy.
3.7On tap at Bigby’s Pour House in Addison, IL., dispensed to a small snifter showing a black/brown hue, with a finger’s width of frothy, brownish tan head foam, and wavy lacing. The nose was expressive notes of roastiness, sweet milk chocolate, a bit of coffee, and spices as cinnamon & nutmeg. Medium+ bodied, with fair carbonation, the taste continued the aroma notes, and combined a dry, roasted & earthy bitterness, with a peppery heat that enhanced the flavor, and lingered pleasantly in the throat. Enjoyably unique.
3.012 oz. bottle served in shaker (last one from MI)- poured a non transparent black color, no head, sits very still in the vessel. Aroma of nutmeg, hot peppers, and dark chocolate. Hits the mouth with a wide body, malt is awash with nutmeg and cinnamon but a roasted malt is detectable, middle has some vanilla and tobacco, finish is kind of one note- some heat, but nothing much else really. Decent, but it just lacks something.
3.8Wow. So very thick and heavy residual sugar that sticks to the tongue and cheeks. Cocoa and and some of the jalapeno ending. Cinnamon scent and cocoa. A bit of vanilla but it’s got a tobacco scent too. Thick, Just thick and black. Bottle
