Odell Cutthroat Porter

Odell Cutthroat Porter

Not quite a stout but definitely no lightweight, Cutthroat Porter is smooth and robust. Inspired by the classic London porters, we use dark roasted malts to create a deep rich color and flavor that hint at chocolate and coffee.

4.0 Black pour with a dense ran head. Loads of roast and smoke, thick mouthfeel... Drinks way above 5%... Slight hop kick in the finish. Superb.
3.8 A well done porter. Probably of the better I have had. I can here for iOS I believe in the porter. Sweet light smoke and good earthy hop balance. Great flavor. Wow. Aroma is but smoke and caramel. Light hop bite.
3.6 During dinner in Spearfish with Erica, Chris and Patty. I had the nitro version. Lots of roast malts with a bit of chocolate. Jet black with a rich beige head. Bitter dark chocolate and roast.
3.6 On tap at Pinthouse Pizza, Austin, TX, 26.4.2016. Nitro. Black, with a white and creamy head. Smooth and almost insignificant aroma - faint chocolate. Smooth and light chocolatey taste, then lightly roasted bitterness. Light-to-medium body, roasty chocolate finish and smooth.
3.7 Bottle at Denver airport. Tastes like light smoke, woody malt, earth, some dark chocolate, and coffee. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Aroma from the bottle is very similar to the taste.
3.6 From 12oz bottle to english pint glass. Pour is a nice dark brown, just shy of black with a thick tan head. Nose is huge roasted malt, slight coffee, chocolate, alcohol. Taste is light-medium bodied, sweet with some sourness as well. Finishes very silky and leaves the mouth watering. Great porter.
3.5 Nitro. Creamy near white tan head. Black body. Gently malt aroma. Taste is a nice light roast malt. Not super sweet. Just a tiny bit bitter from the malts. Creamy body. The light flavor maes it feel a little watery, but it’s still good.
3.8 Bottle 12fl.oz. Poured into a shaker. Ckear deep ruby brown, small frothy tan head, half-way lasting, heavy lacing; aroma roasted malts, coffee, cocoa, licorice; smooth taste medium sweet and bitter, roasty, malty, chocolate, light dark fruits; middle part roasted bitter with fruity and chcolate notes till the finish, light spicy notes; medium body, watery to creamy texture, soft carbonation; very nice porter.
3.2 Dark, mahogany hue. Light head. Light coffee, light roast, cola, mild berry. Taste is cola, light coffee, light roast, mild dry cocoa, berry. NOt a favorate porter, decent.
3.7 12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a robust foamy tan head. Nose of chocolate and smooth roasted malt. Medium in body and smooth creamy mouth feel. Flavor is dark roasted malts with nice chocolate. Finishes bitter.
3.8 Deep brown color with quite large creamy, tan foam. Aromas mainly of malts which branches out to smootch sweet chocolate, light caramel and very subtlie coffee hints. Although do pick up very slight acidic notes. Palate, medium body, thick and smooth texture leaving very smooth but light roast malt/chocolate finish. Taste is very smooth and easy of chocolate and bit of light coffee, not too complex. Overall, quite nice porter, although it is a stile I have not explored much of yet. But this definatly was nice, would like bit more of thickness to it but then it would taste like a stout? Not sure, it is definatly nice and enjoyable but not to heavy going either + awesome label!
3.6 12 oz. bottle. Black, with a slight ruby hue, and a big, foamy, tan head that leaves lots of lacing. The nose is reasted malts, bitter chocolate, caramel, pine, and a bit of rosemary. Sweet and malty, with some roasted bitterness and a touch of hoppy bitterness. Medium to heavy body, syrupy, creamy, and a bit sharp. Overall, this is a pretty nice, well-made porter.
3.8 Bottle, 355ml. Small tan head and brownish black liquid. Aroma of grapes and dark fruits, coffee, somewhat piquant, but always fruity. The taste is immediately a build-up of dark chocolate, cocoa and some more coffee with toasted notes; an underlying sweetness contributes to its smooth and balanced flavour profile. Caramel and fudge too. Very tasty indeed. Medium or medium to full body, the texture is oily but not too thick, soft carbonation and a deep long finish. Nice porter.
3.5 Dark opaque brown with a beige head. Coffee and cocoa aroma. Strong and rich, coffee finish.
4.1 12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown/black with foamy tan head. Aroma was cocoa, smokey and sweet roastiness. Taste was coffee flavors and roasty malts.
3.6 12oz bottle. 1/27/16 BB date. Appearance: Dark brown, nearly opaque, with a thick creamy khaki head and nice lacing. Aroma: Roast and toasted malt, bready Taste: Moderate malt sweetness with toasted bread and light roast most prominent. Fairly strong bitterness. Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, light creaminess, and moderate carbonation. Finish: Hop bitterness and roast are strong after the swallow. Overall: Very smooth, easy drinking Porter considering the strong roast and bitterness, which are more prominent on the finish. Not harsh or astringent. Flavor intensity lower than some of it’s counterparts like Deschutes BBP.
3.9 355ml bottle. Dark brown body with a medium white head. Lacing. Roasted malt, lactose, hops, chocolate and coffee. Not so chocolaty as perhaps expected but rather good.
3.4 Aroma: very faint chocolate and coffee with a little maltiness; Appearance: midnight black with tan head that quickly dissipates; some lacing; Taste: smooth and sweet with underlying coffee tones; Palate: full body, soft carbonation with long, sweet finish; Overall: a decent porter; would drink again if available but probably not buy again.
3.7 Draft at the brewery, 11/25/15. Dark brown in color with a creamy beige-tan head. Roasted malts dominate the aroma and flavor. Chocolate and coffee. Lightly sweet, mostly roasted flavor. Pretty nice overall mouthfeel. Good amount of flavor packed into a sessionable porter.
3.6 Bottle at home. I shouldn’t have let my guard down in the first place. Now I’m a mess. Ah yeah, the beer was good.
3.7 Black brew with decent tan head that holds on a while. Smells mostly of chocolate malts but the taste is roasted, chocolate, and mild coffee. Was thinking this was more bordering on a stout then I read the side of the bottle. Yep their deScription of this brew is dead on. Not as thick or hardy as I would like to have had on this cold rainy day but the three bottles from the sampler pack was enjoyable.
2.8 Draft pour at Porter. Pours dark brown with a fading head. Soapy lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee. Taste is malt, roasted coffee, and a mildly bitter finish. Medium mouthfeel. An underwhelming porter with a thin palate.
3.3 12 oz. bottle. Deep brown, tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and hints of coffee. Taste: roasted malt, some nuttiness, coffee notes. Medium body and moderately bitter finish. Decent.
3.4 Pours brown with off white head. Slight roast aroma. A litter on the bitter side.
3.6 12 ounce bottle poured and split. Pours a color black with a foam ring head. Definitely an english porter here. Huge roasted aroma and flavor. Quite a bitter side, opposed to my usual porter, but very tasty. Bitter roast with a rich chocolate background. Good lunch beer.
