Odell Isolation Ale

Odell Isolation Ale

Available each winter from the first of November until it runs out, Isolation ale is amber in color, malty and strong. We consider it a traditional winter warmer, without the addition of fruits or spices.

3.9 12floz bottle, BBD: 05.14.2018, $1.75 unit cost, pint glass. Appears a darker hue of amber and head is the color of beige. A well malted ale in the nose and palate. Notes of toffee, raisin, and tobacco present. Full bodied as it heavily coats my mouth. This isn't a spiced winter warmer, and I like it as a main go to option for that sensibility without being superfluous.
3.2 Bottle. Caramel malt aroma with notes of toasted malt, dark fruit and earthy hops. Pours dark amber colored with a thin tan head that has good retention and some lacing. Starts with caramel and toasted malt flavors with some dark fruit. Finishes dry and smooth with more roasted malt flavors as well as some earthy hop flavors. Decent winter Ale, but feels like it was missing something.
3.6 On tap at Pinthouse Pizza. Brown with a sticky white head. Caramel and cherry notes in the aroma. Light hints of rum. Taste is sweet on a strong caramel base. Dry. Body is medium with moderate carbonation. Good.
3.6 6 pack from Logan Liquor. This is a beautiful, very deep red and extremely clear. Aroma is malty and fruity with notes of toffee, musty basement, berries, tree bark, and nuts. The palate is pretty full with an appropriate sweetness. Malts provide most of the flavor on this one. There are hints at toffee and chicory with far off dark fruits, maybe raisins. Musty, earthy undertones round things out. It's a little metallic at first impression, but that fades towards the end of the glass. Odell has nailed this style. This year's vintage comes in at 6.1%.
3.1 From Dec 2006 Poured from 12oz bottle(best by 04072007) a deep amber with a large head of foam that subsides slowly leaving a solid fine layer with plenty of lacing. The smell is one the faint side but I note some sweet malt and some fruitiness. The taste is quite malty. I can taste some sweet caramel and fresh baked bread up front with just a touch of lemon bitterness from the hops and an even smaller hint of spice in the finsh making for a dry aftertaste. After a few more sips and as the ale gets closer to room temp, the spice does grow more prominent but it doesn't take over the flavour as I've noticed in other samples of the style. Good stuff! Bottom line: This is an example of the style that may not be as complex as others but it's a darn good, smooth drinker that is worthy of your patronage. I recommend it.
3.3 Refreshingly straightforward. Caramel malt with nutty, toasty grain and a lightly bitter finish.

3.8 Aroma is malts and Christmas spices/mild peppermint. The flavor is malts, Christmas spices, mild fruit and a warming finish.
3.1 Poured from the bottle into a pint glass to drink. The beer had a cloudy amber color with some sediment and a creamy tan head with good retention. Its aroma featured a blend of caramel and barley malt along with some lighter grainy and grassy hops. The taste was lightly sweet and malty with a bit of coffee, along with some modest bitter and sour grainy tones. It was a fairly wet and watery beer with a lighter mouthfeel and lower carbonation.
2.9 From a 12 oz bottle it is an clear orange Amber color with a slight head. The aroma is malty and some subtle fruitiness the taste is a strong bitter malty flavor that lingers bitter on the palate.

3.0 12oz bottle from jcwatts, Cheers John. Poured a muddy light orange-amber with a small dense foamy head of light beige. Aroma of old hops, wet toast, earth and old citrus fruit. Flavor is grains, dough, toast crust, fruity esters towards the end. Medium body with bubbly carbonation and a quicker fading aftertaste.
3.2 Another solid odell beer...many better in this style but this has good flavor with a malty base...i like enjoying this one once a year.
2.9 Dark amber with large off white head. Nice lacing. Very light malty sweet aroma, carmel. Bread and carmel flavor with some piney bite. Almost no carbonation gives a smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel. Some bitter malt aftertaste, but not off putting. Good beer. Some alcohol flavor, but not a strong beer at all.
3.6 Bottle from the Fall/Winter 2015 Montage pack. Pours a deep amber with a persistent half-inch of cream head. Aroma is roasted malts, dark fruit, sugary. Taste is a great balance between piney and floral bitterness and a great deep biscuity malt. Hints of sweet stone fruits. A great somewhat lower ABV winter ale.
3.6 Aroma: faintly malty and a little bready; Appearance: dark amber with pillowy but small head; decent lacing; Taste: nicely malty balanced with a little bitterness; better than expected; Palate: full body with creamy texture; average carbonation; long malty finish with caramel undertones; Overall: a little overly malty but a nice ale. Would buy again when in season.
3.7 Amber with small head, light aroma of caramel, taste of caramel with some mild pine hops. Very well balanced brew and light bodied making it a chggable beer. My bottle shows a 6.1% ABV but still a respectable kick level for a brew such as this. Would like to buy this in my area by the 12 packs but could only find it in a sampler pack this year.
3.6 Pours a mostly clear deep reddish brown color with off-white head. Caramel maltiness and cereal notes, a slight nut note too on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied. Finishes with mostly maltiness.
2.7 12 oz. bottle. Amber in color, foamy, soapy head, nice lacing. Malt in aroma, not much else. Tastes of malt, a little bit of hop bitterness. Goes down pretty smoothly, but fairly boring.
3.6 nice amber color and an off-white colored head that dissipates fairly quickly. toasty malt notes that are a bit more clean than the actual flavor. nice malty warm winter flavor with a very slightly bitter/ hoppy ipa-type finish.
3.2 Aromas of citrus and caramel a light bitterness. Drank from the bottle flavors are citrus and caramel light bitter aftertaste decent overall wouldn’t actively seek it out but still solid to drink.
3.8 Bottle from Market Street. Pours a deep amber with a medium off white head. The aromas are caramel mixed with light citrus and mayber some leather. The mouthfeel is dry and bready with a medium body and medium carbonation. I actually liked this one. Cheers!

3.2 On tap at Woodland Empire. Dark amber, very malty aroma and taste. Nice sticky lacing. Tasty, not overly strong, average English ale.
3.6 From a bottle at Via Baci. Pours a dark reddish-orange and makes a thin beige head with good lacing. Not much of an aroma, but a bit of yeast and malt. Tastes like an English ESB. Some malt, some caramel sweetness. Not overpowering. A good seasonal.
3.5 Originally rated on 11/14/14. Toasted malts, plenty of bread and very faint dark fruit in the background. Brown/ ruby colored body when held to the light with a thin slightly tannish head that leaves some decent lace.Flavor is slightly toasted bread and not much else, some bitterness on the finish.
