Odell Runoff Red IPA

Odell Runoff Red IPA

This time of year in the Rockies, one day can span all four seasons. Morning snow gives way to afternoon sun, sending fresh snowmelt into our rivers and into our mash tun. With a complex malt backbone dry hopped for notes of citrus and pine, it’s almost as surprising as the season itself.

4.0 Pretty red, dark. Good head, diminishes quick surprisingly. Aroma is malty, kinda nutty, fresh, and light hop of which I cant detect much. Floral, mild. Maybe soapy. Taste is good for red ipa, its very smooth with a nice malt complexity, hops are different- not really hoppy and at the same time I don’t know what is going on here between malts and hops, so I guess its refined and complex, soft and creamy,no sharp or harsh malt, not overyly sweet but just enough.
3.7 Pours deep red fluffy off white head. Pine, resin, Berry, citrus aroma. Caramel, pine, citrus, earth flavour. Slick mouthfeel. Nice.
3.5 Attractive copper pour. Pine resin and grapefruit offset by plenty of caramel malt. Well-balanced.
4.1 Bottle. Pours clear reddish brown with off white head. Nose is very sweet and caramel. Taste is also sweet. Orange, toffee and dusty almost rye like aftertaste. Nice.
3.6 Medium caramel color with a red hue good retention thick. Aromas fruity, pine, lil spice,. Flavors fruity/pine balanced, slight caramel in the end. Almost a watery feel, light to medium finish.
3.7 Draft. Pours, um red. Thin white head that coats the glass. Great representative of the style. Some rye flavors with caramelized malt flavors.
3.3 Tap at Nighthawks with blonderedhead. Pint glass. Amber/copper color with some lacing and head of a tannish variety. Nose has some hops with pine and light citrus. Taste is pretty mild with a strong malt presence working well underneath a hoppy surface. Citrus and some resin. Kind of thins out towards the end with aftertaste clinging to hop bitterness. It’s nothing special but drinkable.
3.7 On tap at bitter creek boise. pours out a clear crisp amber copper color topped with a sand head. Nose is pine some fruit hops and a caramel sweetness. taste is more of the nice hop mix and a sweet malt.
3.8 Beautiful deep copper, tan head, good lace. Amazing looking beer! Soft aroma - biscuity sweet malt, complex piney hops. Taste is very well balanced with bready malts and slightly resinous hops. Medium sweet finish with pretty full mouthful. Very good beer!
3.6 Pouring an amber-red into the glass, the beer is less than aromatic, but capped with a thick, creamy tan head. The Runoff Red is as clear as a gemstone, and if I could find one this color, I’d wear it. The aroma is not reaching out to me, so I lean to the glass. Pine fragrant hops aloft a malty base are now apparent in the aroma, but the first taste and a little warmth on the glass pulls all of it together. - A fruity flavor culminates within those malts, the temperature rising and the aroma beginning to burst with big, juicy grapefruit. The carbonation is just right to carry the bitter edginess of the brew across my tongue, and at the same time, support the flavor that is now coming like a flood. A nice lacing on the glass makes for a nice visual, but that creamy head is tantalizing on my lip as I drink. - This is quite lovely, a huge aroma when all is said and done, very visually pleasing and definitely drinkable. The finish is mild, not too punchy and I’m liking the flavor quite a lot. Nothing is making me run right out to shout about it, but this is definitely something I’d recommend to anyone that enjoys a nice Red IPA.
4.7 Aroma of sweet malt, stone fruit, a light hint of cherry, slight citrus. Appearance is a brilliant clear red copper color. Similar to aroma, tastes of slight caramel malt, and subtle cherry and citrus. Medium body with moderate carbonation. This is a beautiful beer!
4.0 Pours a gold/cinnamon color with a scent of pine, citrus, hops and malt. A cream head that lingers to the end.
4.0 In the era of Arrogant Bastard and other red ales featuring aggressive Northwestern American hops, Runoff Red is a bit surprising. Appearance is what you’d expect with a ruby-amber shade and creamy suds. Aroma is balanced equally between toasted malt and piney hops. At the start, there are hop notes of berry and orange. The balance then reverses mid-palate and caramelly malt takes over with hints of chocolate. It’s certainly a change of pace from the other American Strong Ales/Red IPA’s... whatever the hell you want to call them. Runoff Red an approachable and beautifully balanced ale to mark the ending stages of winter.
3.6 Bottled. Dark red in color, bit too syrupy, but a nice bittersweet finish. A decent IPA.
3.6 Good malt backed hoppy beer. Reddish tinge. Mild hop aroma. Not complex but solid.
3.8 Draft. Bright reddish amber color, medium off white head. Nice pineapple and grapefruit aroma. Taste is juicy bittersweet fruit. Very tasty.
3.4 Backlog from lost & found notes: Aroma of hops, straw, some wood, pine. Taste is sweeter pineapple, fruits and caramel leeting into hoppy bitterness.
3.9 Pours copper with a good white foamy head with a tint of orange. Aroma of citrus fruits like orange, mandarin and some papaya with a hint of pine. Taste has a brief tinned tropical fruits touch, woody middle and a nice bitter finish. Excellent.
3.7 Bottle, thanks to Clayton! Odell Runoff Red IPA seasonal. Rye bread aroma, caramel, nectar and honey. Taste is Finnish ryebread, nectar, honey, sweet malt, coriander and crisp malt. Some juicy hops. Good beer
3.9 Originally rated on 3/2/15. Pours a nice dark reddish/ copper hue with a tan head that receded quickly but is leaving some thick but patchy lace. Mostly citrus hops that hit you at first smell. Flavor is caramel, grapefruit, and blood orange hints here. Finish is incredibly smooth, not too bitter. Overall a nice IPA, red or otherwise.
3.3 Bottle at home. Fruity, berry taste. Sweet syrup on the nose. Bittersweet finish.
3.2 Deep red with off white head. Light aroma of alcohol very little hops. Flavor is slightly off like they used a buscuit malt or something that does not go with the hops. Oh well.
3.9 Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This is a hazy red-amber coloured beer with a sweet currant, cherry and blackberry flavour followed by a toffee and floral red fruity and bitter finish.
3.7 Dark red draft pour at 8th st tap in Mn. Tons of head. Malty. Fruits. A nice cherry, bitter, hoppy and tasty red. Lovin Odell
2.3 Mild aroma. Red in color with medium cloudiness. Somewhat bitter start and finish
3.8 Bottle from Liz. Pours dark copper/amber with a yellow/beige head. Aroma is pine over a roasty malt. Body is maybe medium. Flavor is pine/citrus. Roasty malt backbone. Dusty, red malt sort of thing. Not quite grabbing me, but not bad.
3.9 Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours orange amber with a thick beige head and a roasty citrus aroma. There is a raspy dry red malt flavor with a bitter pine finish.
3.8 Tasted on draft at 2015 St. Louis Microfest in a willi becher glass. It poured a crystal clear reddish amber colour with sudsy beige foam. A good example of American IPA: strong malt backbone plus strong grapefruity/resiny hops. Caramelly and juicy. Smooth and creamy. Light-medium body, strong carbonation, lingering bittersweet aftertaste. Very tasty and refreshing.
3.2 Light spicy aroma. Pours a but if a clear red with some head that lingers. Taste is surprisingly gentle. Just a bit of of spiciness, lots of maltiness and some hops at the backend. They linger a bit. Pretty thick body and sharp carb
4.2 Sweet aroma, beautiful ruby colour with white head. Moreish taste, piney malt and pleasant bitter tang. Refreshing after a long week!
