A thick malt bill trying to showcase brown malt, besides chocolate, roasted and some caramel malts. Hopped with East Kent Goldings and some Chinook as late hops.

3.6Bottled January 2017, drunk January 2019.
Dark black with some deeper mahogany brown hues in the light, good clarity and a small, grey-tinged, tan head that fades steadily to a ring.
Initial aromas are not promising; bad even. Just smells oxidized, much more than it should for two years, and possibly even infected on account of the intense plummy fruitiness. But as I let it breath, it gets better and the oxidation seems to fade, while the intense fruitiness seems to be just due to a ton of roasted barley or the brown malts they speak of. It's a massive amount of plum-prune-raisin-vinousness with good bitterness/acidity and no hop character or fudgey/American-style maltiness/sugariness. No alcohol or flaw. Very intensely English-styled.
In the mouth it's more of the same; tons of roasted barley imparting heavy prune-plum-grape. Light baker's chocolate and just hints of caramel through the middle with a medium body for the style, not thin, but very highly attenuated. Cocoa powder/baker's chocolate is rather heavy, but the carbonation is still here and quite strong which helps disperse some of this cocoa-prune heaviness. Low alcohol, no flaw. I appreciate the English variety of RIS, given how close to extinct the style is, but this one might be taking it a bit far.

3.5Smaakvolle stout met veel smaken van gebrande mouten en dat van chocolade. Ook is de smaak van karamel te herkennen. De nasmaak is hoppig en ietwat droog te noemen. -Backlog de BierApp-

3.6Draught, 11% at Lager Lager. Dry liquorice aroma. Black colour. Good stable light brown head. The flavour has a lot of dry liquorice, sort of bready, but the beer itself is not dry at all. Flavourful but well-balanced.

3.9On tap at Lajbah, Ljubljana. Pours pitch black, topped with a thick coffee cream colour head, large and very lasting. Medium coffee roasted aroma, hints of chocolate. Thick and full body, silky texture. Sweeter start, roastiness follows with moderate final bitterness. Alcohol warmth is quite present, almost slightly burning feel. Roasty after. A bit too sharp with the alcohol, but very decent.

4.0Smell : incredibly creamy, clear moka smell... Appearance : medium to low foam with a steady 1mm head. Coke-like colour... Taste : head note is liquorice and ganache then turns into more complexe notes of chocolate, tobacco and soy. Cherry is also here when you allow air to bubble through your sip. Bitterness of a strong 99% cocoa chocolate. Mouthfeell is rich and supple. Really interesting and entertaining beer with a rollercoaster of sensations!
3.9Pours black into a tulip. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes to coat surface. Licorice and soy aromas. Thick licorice and warm anise upfront turning to dark chocolate espresso beans in the lasting bitter finish.
3.9Zwart bier met crèmekleurige schuimkraag. Licht zurig in de neus. Chocolade, koffie, cacao, donker fruit. (Koffie)bittere afdronk. Had iets voller mogen zijn, beetje dun. Al bij al goeie stout.
