Off Color Fierce

Troublesome’s meaner cousin will flail your tongue as hard as he can, but being such a little guy, you’ll probably just pucker a bit. Spawned through an overnight kettle souring with our house lactobacillus culture, the wort emerges furious at what we did to it. Then, just because, we pitch a saison yeast and allow it to free rise to it’s further distain. It comes out angrier
uh, angrier than... well, something really angry. But at 3.8% ABV there’s no reason for you to be too afraid.

3.8 Pours an amber from a bottle, sourdough aroma with crisp lemon and sumac notes. Flavor similar, nice and tart. Pretty good beer.
3.9 Bottle. A- Latex plastic, tart, lemons. A- Pale yellow color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Sour, tart, lemon juice, plastic, subtle vinegar. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, refreshing finish. O- Just the right amount of tartness to be drinkable and refreshing. Paired damn fine with the spicy jerk chicken I made. Had a bit of that latex and rubber aroma but didn’t degrade the beer at all. Pretty nice.
3.3 Shared at Craft. Hazy gold with white head. Nose was lemongrassy citrus, bready malt, more salinity and tartness in the flavor and finish. Solid beer.
3.3 $2.95 bottle, Wine Warehouse. Rating # 2006. Pours slightly hazy light yellow with a giant white head. Aroma is sour grapes, wheat, grass, yeast. Flavor is quite tart... lightly lemony with dough and grass notes. Maybe a lint of lime in there... It is kinda tasty.
3.3 Pretty clear yellow with a massive dense white head and prominent carbonation in the body. Fruity grape, sweet white wine aroma, some wheat. Good juiciness with the sour provoking the palate into some salivation. Very drinkable, and the sour didn’t make me pause and think as much as I would have liked. Bottle.
3.6 Hazy straw yellow body with a small white cap. Aromas include lemons, wheat, alcohol, grain. Sour wheat character with a hint of cracked pepper. Light acetic burn in the finish. Pretty good.
4.3 Soft fermented wheat and citrus aromas. Pale yellow light white ring of head. Smooth lemony intro tarts up then mellows with a wheat finish.
3.4 Bottle. Pours hazy very pale yellow with large creamy whitish head, sharp acidic aroma, high carbonation, tart, acidic taste, thin body, medium tart finish. Quite mellow beyond the initial acidic attack to your throat.
4.1 subtle aroma with a subtle lacto hint to it. Flavor is very doughlike with a lovely tartness. A perfect summer beer!
4.1 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours very hazy/cloudy golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white heat with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big sour lemon, lime, apricot, peach, green apple, white wine, hay, straw, musty funk, leather, pepper, wheat, cracker, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour lemon, lime, apricot, peach, green apple, white wine, hay, straw, musty funk, leather, pepper, wheat, cracker, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Moderate fruity/acidic tartness and light yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, lime, apricot, peach, green apple, white wine, hay, straw, musty funk, leather, pepper, wheat, cracker, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/spiciness balance and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from acidity and carbonation as well. Medium-high carbonation and light body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately acidic, and slightly creamy/grainy mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 3.8%. Overall this is an excellent Berliner weisse style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast and light-moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
3.9 12oz bottle. Clear neon yellow color with big foam. Funky nose with Meyer lemon, lemonade, some vinegar. Taste is sour, salty, sweet berries, mouthwatering, refreshing. Really like this one.
3.6 Pours a hazy straw yellow with big white foamy head. Aroma is citrusy lemon malt. Taste is nicely sour; not overwhelming, but distinctive. Rich maltiness and yeast comes through on the tongue, along with more lemon. Light bodied, doesn’t linger on the tongue. Definitely get the similarity to Troublesome. Nice for a super low ABV option. Imagine this would be super refreshing on a hot summer day.
3.7 My wife enjoys Troublesome, so I thought I’d get her this "Weisse" from Off Color. I guess I didn’t pay too close attention to the label as I thought it would be a Hefe, not a Berliner Weisse. While the sourness did not appeal to my wife’s palate, it certainly pleased mine so I lucked out with a 6 pack all my own. Pours a hazy lemon-yellow under a thick foamy white head. Light malt aroma gets buried under big vegetal sourness. Flavor is pleasantly sharp and sour with a tangy tartness that lingers. Along with it being light on the palate, it’s an easy-drinking 3.8%... a great option for a warm-weather sour beer as opposed to a stronger, heavier Flemish Sour. ~~~~~~ 6 pk./12 oz. bottles, Kenwood Liquors, Oak Lawn, IL
3.0 At Jerry’s LS. Not bad, but flavor a bit flat and vegatal and didn’t pop. Serving: Tap
3.7 Cloudy yellow with a large white head. Aroma is mildly sour and that’s about it. Flavor is very light, mildly sour with a crisp light finish. Not incredible, but very pleasant, especially on a hot day.
3.3 Cloudy yellow pour with a small fizzy head and fades to a thick ring. Aromas are sour lemons, wheat, and flowers. Tastes moderately sour. Grainy wheat, lots of lemons, a touch of flowers in the finish.
4.0 A medium hazed, sunny lemon juice body sits beneath a fading tight-frothy white head falling to a solid ring Lactic creaminess wraps around floral, earthy, bright fruit nuances with soft acidity and welcome tartness... very complimentary with well balanced components, enough clean fruity sweetness to balance the tartness on a mildly creamy light plus body with tickling carbonation leading to bright residuals of the previously mentioned components... very subtle citrus and floral tones holding on for a bit... big flavor from a truly sessionable brew 12 oz bottle served at 43° into Orrefors Difference Pils
3.6 Bottle. Nice-looking little brew--moderately hazed white-corn hue capped with a layer of white fizz. Lemon, lactic acid, gentle clove and a little wheat in the nose; front of the flavor has a fair amount of peachy sweetness before lemon peel, wheat stalks and a lactic nip wrap up the drying finish.
3.6 Bottle thanks to Chow. Pours a hazy yellow with medium frothy white head that lasts. The aroma is strong yeast, funk, lacto, wood. Medium mouth, funky, wheat, wood, light tart finish, very good.
3.6 Bottle. This was good. Dark yellow, hazy appearance. initially a large head that fades quickly. yeast in the aroma, and flavor has wheat. It is sour, and probably more sour than most of its style. Good.
3.9 Very brilliant light straw colored pour. Creamy white head. Little bit of lacing. Sour lemony aroma. Yogurt and bread. Very much the same in taste. Tart and refreshing with a bit of black pepper in the finish.
3.9 Bottle. Pours pretty clear pale golden, large white fizzy head dissipates quickly but leaves decent residual and lacing. Aroma is wheat, lemons, dusty. Flavor is dry, light tart, loads of citrus and citrus zest, wheat, dust. Light body, fairly high carbonation. This is quite good actually, and is something I would love to be able to drink all day long.
3.6 Bottle from Binny?s. Zesty sour smell is kind of invigorating. Fizzy white head. Has a similarly zesty taste, with grapefruit juice up front, acidulated wheat malt just adding to its tartness. Clean, champagne-like bubbles make the alcohol song up my throat faster. A winner to drink while watching Lon Chaney, Jr. In "Dead Man?s Eyes" and live-Tweeting #Svengoolie.
4.1 Quite clear and quite light yellow. Almost looks like pale cider. Even smells a little tart like cider. First taste is oh so good. Very tart and very yummy. A very good example of the style and it is so refreshing with its cutting carbonation. Very very good I say. No hint of alky in this what ever, just a nice soft tart brew that is fun fun fun. I was impressed with the yuzu version and ditto with this brew, just a fun loving civilized example of what beer can be. Probably more like a wild beer than a Berliner but so what, I like both styles.
3.9 Bottle. Pours crystal clear light straw color. Nose and taste is lemon and hay. Creamy aftertaste. Good.
3.6 Bottle into a glass. Hazy neon hay pour with a thin halo of white head. Aroma is funky and fruity with a hint of white bread, Taste is lightly tart, grape, bright fruit notes. Effervescent, champagne notes. Not at all cheesy. Sweet, dry finish.
4.1 Aroma - grape must, white flesh fruit, straw, and barnyard funk yeast dominate. Appearance - light yellow body, somewhat hazed, with active nucleation throughout. The head is minimal about 1/16" white head and rings out. Taste - is sour with elements of a range of white flesh fruit - pear, apple, white grapes, and grape must. There is a funky yeast as well. A level of tart to boot. Palate - medium body, lively carbonation, and sour dry finish.
3.6 Bottle: Slightly hazed yellow-gold with a thin white head. Lemon, grain aroma. Taste is nicely tart, lemon, lactic wheat malt...almost creamy..but still biting and acidic. Very good.
3.6 Bottle. Lactic lemon and wheat malt aroma. Hazy pale yellow with moderate head and mild effervescence. Lightly sweet-tart lemon and milky wheat malt flavor. Nice body. Very good.
