Okells IPA (Bottled)

Okells IPA (Bottled)

Bottled. Filtered and force-carbonated.

"Okells IPA is an extremely light coloured beer with a surprising full bodied taste, the sweetness is offset by a very strong hopping rate. That gives the finished beer an over all roundness with very spicy lemony notes and a fine dry finish to counteract the initial sweetness."

originally known as Dr Okells’ IPA

3.0 Can sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks tomer. Clear amber, white film. Grainy aroma with floral undertones and then a little butter. toffee sweetness in the mouth, a little buttery with hints of bitterness. Medium-bodied, smooth finish.
2.9 Bottle from B&M. Golden with a frothy white head. This is a fairly run of the mill golden ale rather than a true IPA. Bitter with marmalade, citrus and a little bit of spice.
3.0 500ml bottle at home poured cool into a shaker. Hazy gold with a thin white head. Bread and honey aroma. Some peppery lemon and digestive biscuit, but it gets trampled on by unbalanced green hop bitterness. To be fair, this recedes the further you get down the glass, but that’s probably due to taste buds becoming accustomed. In other respects a nice beer but ultimately rendered metallic. Could be the wrong hop, too much hop, or too much of the wrong hop! I don’t know.
2.9 Appearance: Clear golden amber with finger thick white head. Aroma: Malts, floral, subtle lemon and peppery. Taste: Medium bitterness, low sweetness and sourness. Palate: Light/medium fairly smooth texture, light body, average carbonation, abrupt lemony, malt finish with a citrus pith. Comments: Ok and lace.

3.2 At a tasting, thanks DSG, almost no head, clear lightish gold colour, light citrusy and tropical fruits aroma with some bready malt, light herbal grapefruit flavour with a malty backbone. Nice and drinkable but not too exciting.
3.0 Bottle shared at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Erzengel for this bottle! Slightly hazy golden. Aroma is a bit skunky and hoppy with a bit of malt and a caramel hint. Flavor has a bit of maltiness, slightly stale, with mild fruitiness and a bitterish hoppy finish. Medium-bodied.
3.6 Thanks to erzengel! The beer pours a clear golden color with a small of white head. The noise is perfume, straw, mild caramel, grass. The taste is caramel, fruit, grassy hops ending dry and bitter. Light in body with nice fine carbonation. Nice British style IPA.
4.2 The nose is grandma’s soap. The beer starts the same - mothballs with a great floral aroma. The mothballs go to the background, a dry floral and hoppy beer comes through. Hints of malt, very nice hop-profile. The aftertaste is intense floral, hints of sweetness, hints of malt. Very dry and very floral. A very nice English IPA. 13/12/13/12

2.9 50 cl bottle. Originally rated on 20090610. Pours copper color with a medium head. Aroma of caramel malts and some fruits. Flavor of grassy fruits, malts and caramel. A bit too malty for my taste.
3.4 So, an India Pale Ale from The Isle of Man! Borwn 500ml bottle, best by 28 Nov 09, drank 23 Jul 09. Poured into a vase shaped pint glass, branded as ’Old Speckled Hen’. This glass is rapidly becoming my favourite tasting glass for UK based beers, shows off the colour and head very well each time I use it. Pale amber/light orange body, good firm white head, looks like a lager/pilsner (almost), but without the brightness, although to be fair it is a dull day today! As you’d expect from an IPA the aroma was hoppy, but not much else. Good hop feel to the taste, more hops in the mouth than in the nose. Fairly well balanced, the malted barley evens out the hops nicely although it has a more of a hoppy smack on the palate than of malts. Dry aftertaste, the hops see to that, they also impart a lot of bitterness as the mouth drys after each gulp. Enjoyed it, a pleasant beer to review, not sure I’d buy a case though, unless they were on special offer.
3.5 Moving my old rating from the cask version of this beer, guessing it has been split since after my original rating. Original rating from: thursday, november 01, 2007 50 cl bottle at Pub Vildanden, Lund Shady pale golden color, big fluffy white head. Fruity hoppy scent. Herbal and slightly fruity taste. Medium mouthfeel, fruity aftertaste. Low bitterness. But why call this an IPA? Low bitterness, low alcohol, low on the hops. Still good though.
3.0 4.5%, gold colour with a thin head, sweet hop aroma, sweet bitter hop taste, a nice IPA.
