Olde Hickory Hickory Stick Stout

Olde Hickory Hickory Stick Stout

This is STOUT beer, not for the meek!

Hickory Stick Stout is a whole- lot-a beer full of malt. English pale and crystal malts start this beer quickly followed by big time chocolate and black patent malts.

Tons of Cascade hops go into Hickory Stick Stout to round out the malt character. Hickory Stick Stout is a very robust stout, bursting with flavor!

3.4 Bottle from Sam's Quik Shop. Pours dark brown with a large frothy head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, light coffee. Flavor is coffee, roasted malt, soap, minor citrus?, charred chocolate.
3.4 Draft. Dark brownish black pour. Decently roasty, some citrus peaking through, decent.
2.8 Very bland beer . Really has not much flavor and feels flat in the mouth. Average Stout nothing amazing
3.7 Draft @ Beer Temple. Dark, but clear color, not quite black/opaque. Dense beige head with good lacing. Aroma's: roasted, sweetish. Flavor is light sweet, roasted. Light bodied. Finishes with roast, licorice, moderate bitter.
3.8 8 3 8 4 16 Draft at Beer Temple. Near black with a light tan head. Aroma of roast, dark chocolate, light coffee and caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet and above moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.5 From tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Aroma is roasty with dark malt and notes of caramel and chocolate. Mild sweet flavour with a good roasty bitterness. Body is medium. Nicely roasted agreeable Stout, a pleasant surprise.
4.1 Good basic stout, nice dark color, good full taste, caramels, toastiness. And other stuff...
3.4 Pour is a near black with a large tan head. Aroma is a decent char and ashy malt with a bitter bakers chocolate in there. Flavor is a nice chocolate and coffee with a decent char left on the tongue. pretty decent stout. My bottle looks different that the pic and the alcohol is only 5% but even with the lower alcohol the flavor is still there in a big way. The burnt notes of the malt really stand out.
3.2 The color is dark brown that is fairly clear when held to the light. It has a tan head. It has aromas of chocolate, roasted malts, some burnt smells, and low fruit aroma most like dark fruits. The flavors are roasted malts with chocolate compliments. There are some burnt flavors that are moderate. The fruit flavors are low and dark. It has a medium feel with slightly above moderate carbonation.
3.4 Black chestnut. Stable khaki head. Tarry, inky aromas prevail over black licorice, espresso, chocolate truffles and grapefruit. Soft, plentiful carbonation. Caramel-rich and forcefully roasty, up front, with big citric hop bitterness cutting through the sugars and aligning with pronounced black patent astringency. Smoky, tarry notes are buried within the expressive maltiness. Prevalent notes of char supply noticeable acidity and some rough edges to the otherwise rich and multilayered malt, though a pleasant fudgelike, inky richness does persist. Stacks of burnt toffee, ash and espresso comprise the intensely roasty, smoky finish. A hopcentric stout a la Avery Out of Bounds. Just as Crystal malt serves as the base of Avery’s rendition, Olde Hickory hasn’t been shy with the Crystal, and it’s similarly heavy handed with the roast and hops. A bit ashy and astringent for me to throw back quickly, but it’s complex and virtually flawless. Nice effort.
3.2 bottle, a decent beer .. . dark brown black .. mild foam .. cooking chocolate mostly, some dusty hop grass .. . decent finish . .. . If you lived to be 100 years old, what would you say was the secret to your longevity just to screw with everybody? ....Slightly undercooked chicken once a week.
3.8 Pours dark brown with a thick tan head. Mild coffee and chocolate flavor and a slightly more assertive roasted bean aroma. Picked up in Asheville in 2015.
3.4 22 ounce bottle. Pours almost black with a nice tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, and coffee. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and a bit of smoke. Pleasant, but nothing too exciting for me.
2.5 Big bottle into stout glass. Huge thick tan head on top of black beer. Aroma of mud, leather and alcohol. Bitter chocolate and burnt coffee taste. Thin mouthfeel. Looks good but Disappointing.
3.4 Tap. Black with small head. Very malty. Dry slightly bitter finish. Solid, if unexceptional stout.
3.6 A nice standard stout. Malt toasts burnt. Sweet. Aroma all the same. Head present. A good go to.
3.6 Black in the glass. Thin soapy head. Slight cocoa and nutty aroma. Dry on the palate. Cocoa flavor with a hint of dark coffee and roasted malt. Overall, a solid easy drinking brew.
3.4 My Bottom Line: Vanilla and dark fruit plunge into an ashy, roasty finish in this slender Stout. Further Personal Perceptions: -A ring of foam circles the blackness. -The nose was promising, but that overly roasty ending decreased drinkability and enjoyment somewhat. -Like all Olde Hickory brews I’ve had, this is flavorful throughout but lacks refinement, smoothness. On tap at the Olde Hickory Station.
3.6 A dark brown stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, nice bitter chocolate with resinous floral hops, grapefruit, treacle, very nice. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate malt with coffee grind, musty character, floral hops, grapefruit pulp, hoppy stout. On tap at Olde Hickory Station.
3.7 BBD 12/14. Pours dark as a starless night with a massive World Class head, lacing and retention. Nice, but somewhat subtle, nose of sweet dark chocolate with only a hint of roast. Very light medium body with just a touch of creamy texture. Slightly above normal carbonation with some effervescence in the middle and finish. The flavor profile is intense, a bit complex and fairly balanced. It begins with a bitter rush of dark chocolate that fades into coffee notes. The sweet aspects of the nose are not present. In turn, the coffee releases into a mild bitter roast with citric, but not quite rind like, hop bitterness. The finish is somewhat dry and leaves you with a distinctive aftertaste of charred grain. Similar to Bell’s Kalamazoo, but a bit more refined.
3.6 Very nice roast aroma. Lightly hopped. Very nice stout on tap at Olde Hickory Station.
3.9 nuts, roasty, coffee, caramel, chocolate, resin, earthy, leaves, smoke, woody, brown, black, brown foam, frothy, medium sweetness, medium sweetness, medium bitternessfull body, thick feel, average carbonation, long finish,
3.0 a pretty great stout, full of the flavors you would expect for a stout of this caliber.
2.6 Bomber from trade. I rarely say this about stouts, but I did not like at all. Not much aroma - roast and faint coffee. Dark pour. Taste and palate disappoint. Thin watery over burnt malt with burnt coffee added for fun. No
3.1 Draft at Carolina’s Vineyards & Hops. Dark brown pour. Oddly off-balanced with some stale coffee notes getting in the way of any chocolate, roast, or earthiness that may be going on. Slightly stale tasting. Couldn’t put my finger on it.
3.2 On draft. Dark brown color with beige head. Smokey, burnt wood taste. Ends slightly better.
3.6 22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some smokiness, hints of chocolate and coffee, and light dough. Flavor the same with an average texture. A decent stout.
3.6 Bottle: Poured a black in color with a brown head. Aroma was sweet chocolate. Taste is similar with chocolate, the hops did not come through the sweetness, but gave a balance to the malts.
2.7 It was a nice toasty stout very bitter both hops and black patent. Decent drinking stout.
