Olde Hickory The Event Horizon

Olde Hickory The Event Horizon

The Event Horizon Imperial Stout is an incredibly rich and luxurious beer brewed with ten malts, local honey, and four American hop varietals before and extended aging in oak bourbon barrels. The result is a beer with many layers of complexity. As the name implies, with one sip you will be unable to turn back. This 2010 special release will age well for years to come, or enjoy now in good company. Cheers!

4.5 Opaque black beer with a slight/medium brown head. Heavy aroma; taste starts medium/heavy sweet and ends slightly bitter and dry. Wood, bourbon, honey, vanilla, chocolate, mocha and roasted malts. 9/5/9/4
4.1 Strong notes of chocolate & coffee. Brown Opaque with no head, you can tell the silky body from the pour. Smooth a little oily, but tasty. Not overly carbonated.

4.4 Bottle, through SinH4, thanks! So, this feels like your old average BBA impy stout. You can get it at every corner these days, probably for even cheaper than this one. You can also get more exciting ones, given all the adjuncts these days. But for an old fart like me (am I allowed to say this given I started in 2014?!), This beer still stands out. Because it does what many newer BBA impy stouts do at 12% ABV, only that this one does everything at 8.5% ABV already. It's bold, thick, strong and boozy. Barrel is there, caramel is there. The honey probably helps at that, but who am I to care how if the ABV is low. The aroma is there. Texture, check. The flavours are there. The palate matches. All fits, and it's good and flavourful and complex and everything. And all that 8,5% ABV. Wow.
4.0 @borefts2019... pittige Espresso en zwarte chocola... dik bitter zoet met veel espresso choco in afdronk.. en dan boooze..
4.1 Bottle: Aroma is full, malty and sweet. Intensive roastiness, dark chocolate, sugar, molasses, barrel notes, whiskey, Almost black color, creamy coffee brown head. Flavor is full malty, rich, dark chocolate, sugar, honey, marple sirup, coffee, barrel notes, vanilla, molasses. Roasty, dark chocolate bitter end. Very rich, tasty brew.
4.5 (miel boisé (!), ~bourb, velouto-rudo-boisée-douco-miellée, not for sissies, robuste, texture impec, se méliorise) (mon exemplaire est à 11,75%... bizarre... le site de Old Hickory parle aussi de 8.5%...)
4.1 Lovely imperial stout, chocolate and anise and coffee cherries laced with raisin, caramel, and black cherry, finished off by vanilla, oak, and bourbon. Floral honey notes come through in the back end, but without adding sweetness. Bitter, charred fade. A tad thin, but no trace of the ABV. Very good. Even better with a dram of Peat Monster.
4.4 Bottle pour with an almost black color and a thick silky pour. Aroma of soy sauce, vanilla and mocha. Full bodied with notes of chocolate, coffee and bourbon up front. A nice soy roasted coffee bean flavor on the back end. Really nice, balanced and multilayered.
4.4 0.65l bottle thanks to Lore. Black body with a very thin brown head. Aroma of bourbon, soy sauce, coconut, maple syrup, chocolate and caramel. Taste of bourbon, chocolate, toast, orange marmelade, vanilla and some pecan. The finish is quite long and the beer itself develops very well. The first sip is almost streight up bourbon, but a bit later all the other components shine through. Great beer.
4.4 Thanks Lore! Pours handsome dark black. Big bourbon aroma, cocoa aroma. Dusty, molasses, cocoa, bourbon, maple syrup. Rich, sweet, bold, unfolds forever. A big complex stout. Super cool. Thanks a lot for aharing Andras!
4.4 almost black colour, moderate sized beige head; aroma of dark chocolate, bourbon, soy sauce, some coconut and slight honey; taste of dark chocolate, bourbon, licorice, some burnt coconut and hints of soy sauce; great one!
4.3 Oily blackish brown colour with small beige head. Aroma has intense roasted malts, light soy sauce, dark chocolate, Bourbon barrel. Taste is super roasted malts, dark chocolate, Bourbon barrel, sweet flavours. Full oily texture with lowish carbonation.
4.3 Bottle. Darkest brown color with beige head. Aroma is caramel, thick chocolate, honey, a touch soy sauce, roast, very rich. Taste is vanilla, caramel, bourbon, walnuts, good amount of wood, a touch liquorice and roast as well. Velvety mouthfeel with low carbonation. Very tasty, nice character, immensely thick and rich for 8.5%
4.1 THT March @ Kwartje HQ. Black with light tan head. Big sweet deep roasted malts, massive bourbon. Big sweet and bitter. Full body, slick and malty. Full body and soft carbonation. Massive.
3.9 Sampled at THT March. Almost black with light brown head. Strong bourbon, milk chocolate, some honey indeed, roast, earthy dead leaves, coconut, fudge. Over medium sweet and bitter. Full bodied with slick feel.
4.1 Thanks Kelly. Pretty great imperial stout. Nice sweetness and silkiness for a beer this big. Big chocolate, some vanilla, a slight tart taste. Generally just delicious.
4.3 Draft @ Brody's Taphouse The Hague. Poured black with two finger tan head. Aroma: bourbon, oak, chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla, honey, licorice, plums. Taste: dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, honey, salty licorice, oak, bourbon, burnt molasses, umami/soy sauce, hazelnuts, plums, sultana, dried fruits, caramel fudge, toffee, brownie. Oily & chewy mouthfeel. Medium to full body with roasted bittersweet finish. Awesome!
4.0 From the bottle. Black with a minimal light brown head. Aroma of bourbon, soy sauce and vanilla. Taste is sweet to bittersweet, laced with bourbon, trends a bit tart at the end. A bit of booze but I wouldn’t call it boozy. Body is full, silky smooth, low carbonation, oily. Good overall.
3.6 tap @ Arendsnest. Deep dark brown color. Oak, vanilla, coconut and caramel in the flavor. Rum. Dried fruit. Oak, soft roast and coconut in the aroma. Grapes, Slightly alcoholic.
4.7 All that and a can of beans. Licorice, dark chocolate and whiskey notes. Mellow and full flavored. Deep roast coffee as it fades. Excellent. Oily mouthfeel. Only knock is there's no head on it.
4.1 Bottle from 2013. Lots of fruit. Sweet. Pitch black with a foamy dark tan head. Lots of retention. Very sweet up front and then goes to a dry cocoa feel/flavor. Super boozy. I'd have never believed it was 8.5%
4.3 Imperial Stout Brewed With Honey Aged In Bourbon Barrels. Alkohol: 8,5% obj. Data butelkowania: 18.11.2015 Butelka: 650 ml Kolor: Czarny, nieprzejrzysty. Ogromne pokłady kokosowych ciasteczek, batoników Bounty i lodów waniliowych. Mistrzowsko ukryte procenty. Tekstura jak olej silnikowy, lub płynny miód. Piękny stoucik! Wysycenie: Niskie. Podsumowanie: The Event Horizon Imperial Stout to moje pierwsze piwo z Browaru Olde Hickory z miasta Hickory w stanie North Carolina. Piwo zaskoczyło mnie swoim niesamowitym, głębokim waniliowo-kokosowym aromatem, intensywną beczką po bourbonie i złożonym, wielopoziomowym smakiem.
4.6 This stout is fantastic. One of the best barrel-aged stouts I’ve had in a very long while. It pours thick and jet black with a thin, rust-colored head. The aroma is amazing. This beer smells great. The honey and the bourbon and The malt all work together to create something symphonic. Notes of English toffee and chocolate and coffee and a rich cigar all show up on the nose. The flavor is great too, adding some anise and vanilla to the complex. A great special occasion beer.
4.1 Bottle shared at Lucky Bamboo share. Thanks Andrew! Pours a deep brown to black with a small beige head. Oaky, chocolate fudge nose with roasted malt and coffee aromas. More roasted malt, toasted toffee and mild tobacco notes. Smooth medium to above average body. The bourbon notes come out at the end with a warming finish. Lots of chocolate notes throughout.
