Ølfabrikken 100 gram IPA

Ølfabrikken 100 gram IPA

This is the second in a range of Ølfabrikken special ales.

Starting with the rich and slightly sweet malt profile of a Belgian triple we have added a hop charge every five minutes for full duration of the boil - each hop charge 100 grams larger than the previous one. The result is an immensely bitter ale - a 100 IBU’s of course.

Ølfabrikken 100 gram IPA is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers.

3.8 pours a rich amber with a full head. aroma is fruity, citrus, pine. drinks smooth with a nice sweetness with some citrus coming through and has a decent hop bitter bite on the finish. really well balanced but sweeter then most IIPA
3.8 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of cookie and caramel, orange and flowers for the hops, light dough for the yeast, with a hint of cherry in the background. Head is thin, bubbly, off-white, with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy light orange/tan. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then the long finish is lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy, has a carbonation between soft and lively, and finishes lightly dry and astringent. Sweeter than most DIPAs that I’ve had, but fairly well round and nicely textured.
3.6 The bottle looks a bit boring, the beer in the glass is okay. Starts strong, good use of hops, a bit alcoholic, modest dry finish. Warming and prickly. Well done! Thanks to HenrikSoegaard for this beer!
3.7 Bottle, aged a bit. Nose is really fruity with a hop character to it. Nice bready tone too. Pours a slightly cloudy deep golden hue a good size cream head. Peanuty flavor on entry, flavors turn doughy, an alcohol tone builds. Mouth is a bit chewy, bitterness is mild. Decent beer, would like to try fresh some day.
3.9 Very powerfull fruity aroma. Large, white head. Good lacing. Clear brown body. Moderate bitter and powerfull fruity flavor. Medium palate.
3.8 Nice refreshing yet powerfull brew with plenty of fresh perfumey and piney hops. The body is smooth and rather light but the finish is brutally bitter and agressive.
3.8 Poured a fluffy white head atop a turbid dark honey-amber body with lots of obvious lacing. Somewhat surprised that this is the "malt profile" of a triple. Aroma is strongly citric, primarily grapefruit, some lemon too, slightly herbal, and bicuity as well. Flavor is bittersweet citric, predominantly grapefruit again, floral (lavender or chamomile, possibly even dandelion), honey and bready. Palate is soft and smooth and intoxicatingly warming. Pleasant but hop bitterness to floralness and malt is not quite balanced. Very good nonetheless.
3.8 Beautiful clear amber color with ok head. Very plesant 2IPA. The bitterness is not so strong, Some acidic cirus hoppy bitterness.
3.8 Turbid orange with a soapy head - aroma of orange, grapefruit pith, lemon zest, mint, lavender - there is a lot of minty, herbal character to this that makes it very unlike any other ipa I’ve had - the additional wildflower character adds an interesting dimension as well - a bit earthy and slightly vegetal through the middle - honey sweetness is a little bit strong, and the hop bitterness isn’t potent enough to balance it that well - some notes of oxidation - still, the uncommon flavor characteristics make it interesting.
3.9 It was a orange amber pour. It had a strong citrusy aroma. The head was off white. It had a strong hop taste but well balanced. It had a caramel malty finish to it. I really enjoyed this beer.
3.9 Bottle. Really was impressed with this one. Orangish amber pour with aromas of slight piney citrusy hops, caramel malts. Taste was caramel malt forward with a nice hop bite. Another nice Euro IIPA
3.8 This orange/copper ale pured with a fluffy off-white head and a citrus aroma. There is a delicous caramel malt base overlaid with considerable, but not overwhelming hopping. This is an excellent brew that will satify both belgiophiles and hopheads.
3.4 No date on the bottle, but I think this might have been at least slightly out of date. Orange-amber pour with a medium white head. Strong grapefruit aroma and a bitter taste with a syrupy, malty feel. The hops are more muted than I expected but there is a mild orange/grapefruit flavor present. Solid IPA, but for the price and considering how much I loved Olfabrikken’s porter, I have to say I was disappointed with this one.
3.2 Bottle@Olutkellari, Helsinki. Copper color, off-white head, looks viscous. Strong hoppy aroma with some dark fruit. Syrupy, heavy, bitter flavor. Very full body, medium-light carbonation. Not a personal favorite, but a well-crafted beer nonetheless.
3.4 Bottle. Pours an orange body with an off white head. Hop characteristics include pine, citrus, a light grapefruit bitterness. Sticky pine and malty caramel to finish out. Good brew.
3.5 Bottle at Sorbone, Bromma, Stockholm. I rememberd this as very good, now it is just another average IIPA. It has the citrus and bitterness of the hops, but does´nt have much more to offer. Due to bad planing I had an Imperial Stout just before this one which may have defected my palate slightly.
3.6 Bottle. Smells grass and hops. Bitter hops with some malted barley and butter. Aftertaste is bitter.
3.8 Bottle@Home. Flowers and grass aroma. Light hazy, amber color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, pretty bitter, fruity, floral, perfume, hint of madeira. Soft mouthfeel, flavourful, nice balance.
2.6 600 ml bottle in Duvel glass. Hazy caramel orange with lasting flat head. Citrus orange hop and orange syrup/soda sweet aroma. Sweet caramel orange sweet fruitiness with mildly bitter orangy lingering earthy hop bitterness. Medium body and carbo. A complex mix of ill-matched unpleasant flavors that works neither as an IPA or a Belgian IPA.
3.6 Bottle that I think I purchased, but if credit is due somewhere than thank you. Color was an amber and orange color with a small off white head. Aroma of caramel, earth, grass and citrus. Flavor had a nice caramel presence with an equal amount of hopping. Flavor lingered for a while. Average hoppines for the style and also very earthy.
3.3 Bottle shared via piscator- dark orange in colour with fairly significant head. Nose- orange candy and sweet malts. Taste- syrupy, orange and bready caramel malts, not much bitterness left. Quite cloying at this stage of the bottles life. Finishes with some bitterness. Drinkability suffers some due to overall sweetness and thickness of malt. Would likely been quite nice when fresh.
3.4 Bottled sampe. Burnt orange in colour, with moderate carbonation. Aromas are of bready and caramely malts, with some citrus fruit and booze notes lurking in the background. Fairly sweet and heavy in the mouth, with only a moderate amount of bitterenss. Caramel and candied citrus fruit are the dominant flavors, with a bit of pine in the background. Seemed a bit barleywine-like to me, which makes sense when you consider the age of it.
3.6 Bomber, 2005 vintage. Murky orange amber with a big light tan head. Spicy orange nose, pink grapefruit too. Oh, this is delish - sweet flavors of light brown sugar and orange, not really very bitter any more, but some grapefruit rind flavors come through. Nice lace rings. Some pine comes through late. Nice stuff - kinda want to try a fresh one - how about brewing this baby again?
3.6 Bottle. Pours a hazy dirty orange with a small light tan head. Aroma of bitter hops, sweet caramel malt, and dark fruits. Flavor of brown sugar with an odd vegetal and bitter finish. Definitely a strong beer with a slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Not bad though and it probably was better fresh, but it’s still pretty good somewhat aged.
3.5 Bottle. Aroma of earthy, bready caramel malt, some pine manages to make its way out from buried deep in the background. Flavor is sweet malt with prunes, figs, some citrus from the long-ago 100 IBU’s, and also notable remnants of pleasant bitterness. Still remains on the too-sweet side of things, a bit cloying, but not in a dreadful way, just a drink-it-now-before-it-does-turn-dreadful way. I do wish I had been able to have one of these fresher, but still glad I did end up with one.
2.4 22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy orange amber with a moderate-large off-white head that lasted through two-thirds of the glass and left partial lace. Aroma is caramel, oranges and very sweet syrup. It really smells excessively sweet. The flavor is caramel, orange, intensely sweet syrup, and band-aids. Some grapefruit emerges towards the finish amid some fairly strong bitterness. I enjoy sweet things, but this was too sweet, even for me, and although I finished the first glass, I ended up pouring the remainder of the bottle down the drain. Age certainly did not agree agree with this beer, or at least this bottle.
3.6 Decent sized head. Frothy and off-white in color with some light carbonation. Nice hoppy aroma. Lots of pine, grapefruit and flowers. This aroma hits all of the hops typicals along with a nice caramel malts backbone. Color is a hazy dark caramel. Hmmm, wonder what this was like a bit fresher. Kind of sweet and very malty. Big helping of caramel. Very strong bitter peanut skin flavor with some herbal flavors and a noticable alcohol presence. Thick and syrupy palate. Finishes sweet and bitter and creamy smooth. A pretty darn good IIPA but probably was a bit better when it was fresher.
4.1 Wonderful full pine hop aromaStrong deep, hop infused malt, body thick, almost muddy, the hops had that slight rubbery taste, that you get from aging hops. Still sn encellent brew, probaly was a gem 6 months ago. Thanks Kingpin
4.2 bottle shared at Pikkulintu EXP 070309 amber tiny white head Taste:pleasant grapefruity piney tickling hops bit sweet almost easy. Where is my limit- 150 EBU? More please...
