Ølfabrikken Jule Ale

Ølfabrikken Jule Ale

An unconventional Christmas brew that departs from the tradition of Winter warmers being sweet and malty. Our Christmas brew is abundantly hopped with the four American C's: Cascade, Chinook, Columbus and Centennial. Cinnamon and coriander provides the Christmas spirit and adds to the merriness.

Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, crystal malt, wheat malt, soft brown sugar and Demerare cane sugar. Ølfabrikken Jule Ale is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers. Introduced on 'Fynske Øldage' 2005.

3.2 Bottle (50 cl) from Systembolaget. Clear chestnut, mediu beige head. Malty, nutty, spicy. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Semi sweet, low bitterness.
3.0 Pours a dark brown with a thin head. Thin of flavours and tastes. All on all ok but not more.
2.2 Sample at a Systembolaget tasting. The smell feels artificial and boozy, but there is some dried fruits there as well, apricots. Rough and annoying carbonation. Feels like an industrial beer, reminds me of the typical swedish ones.
3.2 Very bitter beer with fine hints of fruit. Sweeter taste with a bit more fruit flavor but no taste of alcohol, which is good. Slightly bitter putting himself atop the tongue for a while. I liked this beer. My kind of American Strong Ale. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.1 Bottle. Clear deep brown liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of bread, earth, caramel, toffee, raw sugar, raisins and toast. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of bread, toffee, caramel and raw sugar. Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
3.3 Pours brown with minimal head. Aroma of cloves, orange peel, spices, rye. Taste is bland sweet, nothing special, bread and rye, spices. Body is light-ish with soft carbonation.
3.5 Pours amber with no head. Aroma is butterscotch, honey, caramel, rye bread. Taste is honey, caramel, rye bread, butterscotch, figs.
3.1 Bottle. Brown color with a white creamy head. Caramel, crisp bread, dried fruits in the aroma. Taste is sweet and spicy. Medium body, sweet finish with some bitterness.
3.3 Klar Cola med vatten färgad med lätt färgat skum. Doft: Malt, jäst, belgo jäst, fresh havs doft, bränt socker. Smak: Malt, belgiska toner, rostat socker, lite "pilsner", örter, frukt kaka.
3.2 7,3%. Klar rødbrun med lavt beige skum. Brent karamell, mørk sjokolade, treverk. Lite bitter.
2.4 Aroma of grass, herbs, banana, and mineral. Somewhat sweet, almost wheat-flavoured taste, with hints of metal (that lingers in the aftertaste).
3.3 Bottle from SB. Reddish brown with a small tan head. Fruity and spicy tones. Malt, fruit, spices and hops. Medium body with a bitter sweet finish.
3.2 Bottle, Systembolaget. Hazy dark reddish/brown with a small brief head. Aroma and taste of malt, syrup, spices, toffee, dried fruit and orange marmalade. Sweet and with a medium mouthfeel. Low carbonation. An ok one.
2.7 Bottle from Systembolaget (28 SEK). I didn’t feel much of the promised american hops. A bit too sweet aroma and taste, and tasting a bit too alcoholic.
3.6 500ml bottle, pours clear dark mahogany with a small beige head that quickly reduced. Aroma of apricots, caramel and toffee. Taste of apricots, raisins, caramel, toffee, muscovado and spices. Light-medium sweetness, light bitterness. Medium body, oily texture and soft carbonation. A delicious beer with spices that you associate with Christmas.
3.0 Brown and clear beer. Something belgian in the nose with light smokey notes. Taste of sweet malts. Grains, raisins, figs, light smoke and some spices. Well made but uninteresting.
3.3 500ml Bottle - Copper with orange tinges, spice, orange peel, malty and dried fruit in the aroma. Fruity and sweet taste with notes of orange peel, nuts and sultanas.
2.3 Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy brown color with a small soapy beige head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was very mild, a bit sour, yeasty and a touch nutty. The flavor was bread, nut, wheat and pepper. Mediumlengthbread, nut and pepper finish. A bit off at the end. Medium body. Blah.
3.9 Smak och doft av malt, humle, nötter, mandel, torkad frukt, russin. Rostad och vinös karaktär. Bra efterbeska.
3.5 Whole Foods, Bowery 650ml ($12, but marked down to $6): Pours cloudy brown with a nice looking beige head. Aroma is spices, slightly roasted malt, caramel, a bit of booze, and a teenth of hops. Taste is slightly sweet and consistently spicy. Leaves some sugar and spice aftertaste. The cinnamon and coriander just seem to blend into the overall taste. Body is not particularly heavy. This is good, but not great.
3.6 Appearance: Cloudy amber color with a fine tan white head. Ok lacing. Aroma: Slightly sweet fruity and spicy. Palate: Full body. A bit sweet and a fine bitterness. Average carbonation. Taste: Spicy and fruity on a sold malt background. Warming, not disturbing alcohol. Overall impression: Solid winter warmer. Personal stats: Bottle from workmate Gundersen.
3.2 Vintage swingtop bottle from barley wine, best before aug.1.2007 cloudy amber, smooth light brown head. Barley wineish (english style) aroma has developed, hops are gone. Left is a quite delicate old hops and spices aroma, the spices are dominated by cloves, also a dried fruity note to it. Flavor is quite bitter with a dried fruity and spicy base. I get cloves, bitter fruit peel, bitter caramel, overripe banana without the sweetness, Quite a bitterspicy experience. Not the best english style barleywine i’ve tasted, but it was never intended to be aged for this long. No obvious signs of infection or oxidation, but tastes a lot like "old beer".
3.5 Bottle:   Deep caramel, moderate to large rocky white head, fairly nice lacing.   Spicy nose, seems to be a bit like Necco wafers.   Has that powerdy sugar nose.   Otherwise some minor dark pitted fruit and alcohol.   Muted and dull hop character up front.   A little musty, muted spices.   Again with the Necco wafer like candy.   Its a flavor that is common with Anchor Our Special Ale.   This example is has more of an earthy aspect to it.   Not very bright overall, dull hop and dull spices.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Decent winter offering, but not very bright.   Could be that its an aged bottle?   Its similar to Anchor Our Special Ale, but in a light version.   Wished it had more of a malty backbone to it.
3.9 Bottle. Murky brown color, scant head. Aroma of spiced hot chocolate and coffee. Taste is similar, with cinnamon and nutmeg. Decent.
3.5 Fresh nose with aromas of chocolate, orange and brown sugar. Sweet malty taste with spicy hop notes, that somewhat reminds me of swedish julmust. Aftertaste is long, slighthly burnt and bitter. Full bodied with good taste!
