In Greek mythology, Aphrodite rises from the foam of the waves of the sea, enchanting all who see her, and inciting thoughts of love and lust where ever she goes.
We could hardly say it more eloquently. Our Limited Edition Aphrodite Ale is ethereal, intriguing and mysterious – as the Goddess Aphrodite must have been. Aphrodite has champagne-like carbonation, much as the foam of the waves of the sea. Plus enchanting flavors with whispers of raspberry and pear, and hints of funk and tartness created by the Brett yeast. The refreshing dryness comes from the unusual combination of Ommegang and Brett yeasts, and incites feelings of love and thirst, though we don’t know about lust. Grains of paradise are infused into the nectar, and when poured Aphrodite is crowned with a luxuriously shimmering rose-pink head.

3.6Bottle shared at craft ale house. Pours reddish copper with a small off white head. The aroma is a gorgeous mix of raspberry and cherry. The taste is raspberry and relatively sweet. Solid.
3.7750ml bottle 9/14/13 (Binny’s Glen Ellyn)-46° in Shaker-Pours a darker ruby with a rose pink head. Aroma of yeast, pear, and berries. Taste of tartness, raspberry, funk, and yeast. This light bodied brew almost comes across as a Lambic but with much more to it. It ROCKS.
3.9Poured reddish orange into a tulip glass. Large head initially but it quickly dissipated. Light lacing on my glass. Aroma of apples, pears, raspberries and some yeasty funk. Flavor is initially quite sour. Each subsequent sip lessened the sourness. Nice raspberry flavor. Just an ever so slight sweetness to it. Finishes with slight bitterness. Great beer.
3.5Bottle split with Lee. Pours a purplish-rose with light head and some lace. Nose of strawberry, raspberry, brett funk. Medium to light body. Decent fruit beer.
3.6Rich red colored pour with a slight amber tinge. Small off-white head. Quick to disappear. Not much lacing. Huge berry aroma. Like blackberries. Very berry flavor. Nice sourness that fits right in. Very good.
3.5Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle corked and capped, best by June 2014, poured into a white wine glass. Pours translucent red with medium beige head. Small bubble lacing, medium body, medium carbonation, and light raspberry aroma. Taste is raspberry, pear, yeast, and hints of tartness. Not bad for a fruit beer, but doesn’t compare with New Glarus Raspberry Tart.
3.5A - Pours a pretty ruby color with 2 fingers of light pink head. Nice patterns of lacing left on the glass.
S - Fruit candy, raspberries, vanilla, nutty yeast, dry hay, gumdrop cake mix.
T - Tart and funky up front. The brett is very noticeable and blends with sharp raspberries, pears, green apples, and white grapes. Fresh grass comes out as well an unknown spice. Finishes with a salty woodiness and a dry funky tartness.
M - Full bodied, slightly grainy and spritzy carbonation.
Nice balance. A good mix of sweet and acidic flavors going on. The brett made it’s presence known but did not overstep the welcome. The tartness was welcomed and I found this quite enjoyable.

3.7Reddish-purple with a white head. Aroma is raspberries. Flavor is strong raspberry and light orange. I also get a little bit of brett and some light funk. Very dry. Also get some leather notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
4.1Fun and funky. I love this beer very much a one of a kind. Amber in color with reddish and pink hues and a off white to lite pink head. Aroma is so funky, tart and yeasty. Full flavored tons of fruit, yeast, funk and sour. Fizzy and hints of pepper stay on your plate.
4.2Pours a red to pink hues color not a lot of head noise has a funk and yeast smell to it flavors has funk pear, cranberry, and sour tart. This beer really shocked me did not aspect this type of beer at all.
3.5Bouteille de 750ml avec bouchon de liège. Encore une fois merci Patrick. Best by 06/2014.
3.0Scarlet, chestnut, and copper hued body with an eggshell crown. Muddled dark fruit, yeast, earthy & herbal tones. Caramel and toffee backbone. Beer isn’t quite sure what it wants to be when it grows up.
3.9Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Cherry, tart, slight alcohol, spicy, almond, vanilla. A solid brew.
3.9Reddish amber colour w. medium foamy head and lace. Slightly sour aroma, though not not overly sour flavours.

2.9Bottle. Pours a pinkish brown color with a thin off-white head on top. Raspberry and slightly funky aroma with earth and herbal undertones. The flavors are awfully sweet. Again, sweet raspberry leads the way with a spritzy seltzer-like feel to it. Not at all sour or really even tart. There is a soft caramel body but that doesn’t do anything to lessen the sweetness. Musty and earth notes mix in. Really lacking in the funk category making it difficult for me to drink (although that didn’t stop me). I like Ommegang but this wasn’t my thing.
3.8750 thanks to Dallas. Pours a mostly clear dark copper color with a medium white head. A sweet fruity nose with some dry yeast and barrel. The flavor is an interesting though non-distinct fruit, some dry mellow earthy malt, yeast, cherries, brown malt. Good.
3.6750 bottle thanks to Dallas. Copper, hazy, off white head with pinkish hue. Bready malt, raspberries, some tartness and earthy funk. Pleasant.
3.4Strings of bubbles rise up through this misty, ruby-brown colored beer, forming a rocky, fizzy head of white foam that has just a tinge of rose to it. The foam fades fast, leaving watery lacing. The aroma is rich, over-ripe raspberries and apple cider vinegar. Up front, there is a nice raspberry flavor, natural and not overly-sweet, followed by green apple and pear notes and a bit of bready malts that are soon overtaken by the sour dark fruits and mild yeast. The aftertaste is astringent, but fruity. Slightly tart and puckering, but not too dry. There is still some sweetness there. The palate is carried very well by the effervescent carbonation and the light-to-medium body.
This is a good raspberry beer that preserves the tartness of wild raspberries. Served cold, it is refreshing and crisp. As it warms, it becomes sweeter, slightly more syrupy, with a more pronounced sour profile.
3.9750 ml caged and corked bottle, bottle stamp says packaged on 06/09/11, best before 6/2014. Served in a Unibroue tulip, the beer pours a reddish/pink color with about an inch light pink head that stayed around a little while. There’s a small amount of lacing. Aroma is nice and fruity, it smells like raspberries, pears, light tart berries and some brett. Taste is mostly like the aroma, but there’s more balance between the sweet and tart flavors (at first anyway, then it gets sweeter), and there’s also a yeasty/herbal flavor noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick and smooth, and also easy to drink with a good amount of carbonation. I think it’s a good brew, I enjoyed it. $11.49 a bottle.
3.7Growler shared by djmiller92. Thanks Dave.
The beer appears a beautiful, vibrant red color, with a small, pink head. The aroma brings a heavy dose of sweet fruit, particularly sweet cherries and raspberries. Additional notes of malt, alcohol, and a very slight mustiness. The flavor is sweet, with little to no sour or funk presence. More funk / wild yeast would be a welcome addition. Sweet and fruity, this is more of a dessert beer. Best in small quantities. A good beer, I would have this again.

4.0Draught at the Back Country Pizza in Boulder, on October 8, 2012
Hazy reddish brown color, small white head. Red currants, acidic taste. Berry aftertaste. Warming alcohol. Spritzy mouthfeel, low bitterness. Fresh berry scent.
3.7January 6, 2012 - with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc & mabel. My 750ml corked & caged bottle. Slightly hazy ruby with smallish diminishing fizzy off-white, perhaps slightly pinkish head. Aroma of alcohol, light leathery red wine, but mostly a classic sweet and malty Belgian dark strong ale with some faint pungently sour vinegar notes; some spiciness. Taste - like a mild Flemish sour - sweet and fruity while also lightly of vinegar and lemon juice. Average body, solid carbonation, a little acidic - sweet and fruity up front, finishes dry, floral and a little vinegary - I quite liked this.
3.9750 ml bottle shared with LadySusan. Burgundy hazy, thin head. Sour aroma of raspberries, some pears, Brett is there. The taste is similar, juicy, sour, dry bitter herbs. After the stout from Dieu du Ciel, another sexy Aphrodite!
3.7bottle - For style it seems like this should be a wild ale, but alright... it pours red-orange with a light, fizzy, fast fading head. It smells quite fruity, especially of raspberries, and there’s some brett apparent. The flavor is sweet and very fruity with some basement funk and a very lively, bubbly palate. It has a gentle, warming finish and overall is a good beer though perhaps a bit too sweet.
3.5Draft. Beernutz. Reddish pinkish caramel color. Medium head. Head lingered around. Aroma of ripe tart fruit. Medium sweetness. Medium light body. Good texture. Just slightly tart. Ripe berry flavors. Pretty good.
4.6Another winner from Ommegang. Different but worth seeking out, especially if you’re a fan of Lambik styles or Flemish sours. Try with cheese, or seafood dishes.
3.5750mL bottle, pours a pinkish red with a small beige head. Aroma of raspberries, yeast, candied sugar and slight tartness. Flavour of slightly tart raspberries, cut down by the candied sugar. The pear juice is also slightly noticeable toward the end. Nice balanced between the sweetness and tartness. Solid raspberry-centric fruit beer.
2.9The colour of crushed strawberries. The aroma sits heavy with mixed berry syrups and lightly metallic green grain. In the mouth it is very fruity. Unsettlingly so with strawberry and watermelon and heaps of table sugar. There is an element of dryness but it is nothing serious, just enough to take the film off of your tongue. Some slickness and a hint of vanilla. Then a real boozy heat in the finish.
3.7Bottle from Healthy Spirits. Pours reddish brown with a massive pink head and a raspberry aroma. There is an intense raspberry flavor made slightly tart and dry with the addition of brett. Very refreshing on a hot day.
